Nice video Jay, I think Alma will be my server of choice when needed. Brings memories of when I used to work with centos servers to keep mail server and other critical services at the company I worked for
This is a truly excellent tutorial. I remember when it used to be so difficult to install a GUI from just a command prompt. I am so glad those days are over.
10:05 If you need security profile, I would suggest doing it during installation since you are provided with requirements in advance like setting up LVM for various paths like /var/log/audit
Thanks for a very nice and informative video! However, I must agree with many other commenters that the background music is irritating! Particularly the way the volume bumps up at any quiet moment! Even when you take a breath! Music is ok, but perhaps only when something is happening that doesn’t require you talking. Like some automated sequence or so. Still a thumbs up for the content!
The new live CDs for GNOME, mini GNOME, KDE and XFCE offer the same experience as the main installer but what they will do is install the desktop environment you want. Alma Linux has made life easier for those looking for a LTS Fedora experience with the stability of an enterprise distro with ten years support. Fedora may be too much of a rolling and bleeding edge distro for some people, so this is an excellent alternative for them.
Almalinux follows RHEL more closely, version 9 beta is already there for example and version 8 was released months before Rockylinux 8. Apart from this there's not much difference between the 2 since they follow the same distro so pick the one you want. What you'll learn will be valid with the other distro anyway.
You didn't use a background music in past videos - and the subject content was all that is needed. Scrap the cover music - it doesn't improve things. Thx.
Could you please adjust your background music - It is a bit distracting with the volume to high. It just needs to be more low background music. :-) Sorry I don't mean to complain.,, As for the video it awesome you use real hardware. While I do use VM's it is nice to see a real hardware install once in awhile... :-) Thanks Jay for all you do and the awesome video's! LLAP 🖖

Hi installed alma linux 9.2. When i tried to install the tiger vnc server and configure it for remote desktop connections to this server it failed. I ran the command To activate it sudo systemctl start vncserver@:1 the service actived and immediately disactivate it. Any suggestion
Another great video. During installation in the networking section you have to Ethernet connection and a Wireless connection, I'm wondering about the seconed Ethernet, do you have two built-in physical Ethernet connection in your laptop?!!! Thanks again
Very good, tuto, simple and accurate, i have alma linux installed on a hetzner server, on that server i install it using an image. In case i want to install it as custom iso in other of my servers in phoenixnap how can i install it without GUI?
Hello. Great tutorial! Would you recommend AlmaLinux 8 or the latest Almalinux 9? My company is gonna lease a dedicated server and and im gonna have Alma installed on. We will run VMs on it. I was going for Alma 8.8 but now im considering 9.2 for updated packages and longer support (if things turn out with red hat stuff). But Alma 8 is more tested. What is your opinion? Thank you!
You can actually have up to 16 free RHEL installations, but only for a year before they have to be manually renewed (via E-Mail i guess). But I would rather use AlmaLinux or Rocky Linux, CentOS Stream or Oracle Linux would be my last resort 🤔
While using wifi, I'm unable to run the command to install Server with GUI. I am getting a curl error 6 couldn't resolve host name for and also it mentions error failed to download metadata for appstream. Is this because I'm using wifi on a minimal install?
thank you for this great Video. I try to install it on VirtualBox the Server version worked well, but when I try to change it to the GUI version is not work.
I just installed Alma on a VM to begin learning more about networking! I wish I could watch this video but the loud, annoying background muzak makes it impossible :( PLEASE re-upload the past few vids without the soundtrack!!!
@@MiningForPies Thank you fellas, I was heart broken when IBM announced that they were stopping support on CentOS to move on this CentOS stream kind of thing, I want to build a brand new VM with Virtual Box, for studying purposes, I'll give AlmaLinux a go for sure, regards.

I love that you use real hardware, too many people install on VM and make it seem seem less. (Looking at you arch fans)
🤣 I am an Arch fan... You are not wrong.
You successfully helped me solve an issue I was having during the installation of an AlmaLinux VM in virtualbox. New subscriber.

Great walk through video, thank you! That shirt is EVERYTHING!
I love your tutorials. Thank you so much for your time and efforts!
I don't get why AlmaLinux did not include a install GUI desktop option check box during installation.
For a CentOS user, which to migrate to: Rocky or Alma? They both seem to be keeping the original spirit of CentOS alive.
I could never get a clear answer to this so I just gave up and installed Fedora hahaha
