      @@Lorin-GabrielLeaua-fm1lw To turn this stove on, the fuel valve is opened for a second, which shoots liquid fuel onto the wick. So the wick is for lighting only. The wick+fuel generate heat, and the entire concept of this stove is that it turns liquid to gas because it's hot. When it's totally cold, liquid shoots out and bounces down to the wick, but when it's warm enough, it turns into gas, and goes up, instead of being bounced downward. For the lighting procedure check the manual: www.optimusstoves.com/downloads/optimus/manuals/manual_nova-plus_en.pdf Also, the reason the liquid is pushed into the stove is the manual pump on the fuel bottle, which pressurizes it slightly.. there's no 'generator' or anything like that.

    Taking the Nova on a Mount Rainier climb in a couple of weeks. I favor this stove as we will need to melt snow for drinking water for four climbers. I am troubleshooting an issue of too much fuel delivery after the stove is warmed up and turned to high. I purchased a repair kit and have every confidence I will successfully repair my Nova with the help of you informative video. Thank you!

      Nice, have a great trip! I am not sure how to spot "too much fuel".. but make sure you're not overpumping the fuel can. Too much pressure is not good. I always seem to find the perfect balance between pressure in the can and the fuel valve on the stove, just from experience.. If I overpump the fuel bottle, the valve on the stove becomes more like an on-off switch, and it's hard to control the flame. Maybe try not to turn it all the way up to high.. I've never been on a mountain with it, so I wouldn't know, but I generally open it to the highest flame, and then close it 1/4 to 1/2 turn.. It feels like that gives the best efficiency.. since it takes time for heat to transfer to the pot, I think a slightly lower/slower flame gives more time to transfer heat, while not wasting fuel.
      I'm also using a Primus pot with the "radiator" style fins on the bottom, hope you're not using just a plain flat bottom pot.
      Here's what ChatGPT says
      "Turning a camping stove up to maximum heat can potentially heat up water faster, depending on various factors. However, there is a limit to the rate of heat transfer between the stove and the water, so increasing the flame beyond a certain point may not make a significant difference.
      Heat transfer occurs through conduction, convection, and radiation. In the case of a camping stove, the primary mode of heat transfer to the water is conduction, where heat is transferred from the burner to the pot or kettle sitting on top of it.
      When you increase the flame on a camping stove, you increase the heat output, resulting in a higher temperature of the burner. This, in turn, leads to increased heat transfer to the pot or kettle. Consequently, the water absorbs heat more rapidly.
      However, there are limits to how much heat can be transferred in a given time due to the surface area of the pot or kettle, the material it is made of, and the efficiency of the stove. If the stove is already transferring heat to the pot efficiently and the pot has a good contact surface with the stove, then increasing the flame beyond a certain point won't lead to a significant improvement in heating time."

    Thanks very informative maintenance of a fabulous stove. When you are getting ready to pack it up after use there is always fuel that spills out from the flexible hose.
    I try to burn it all off but is always a leak. Do you have any tricks to avoid the excess fuel spill. I am talking about just unplugging the stove not undoing the pump part from
    the fuel bottle thanks

    • @CleverFix
      @CleverFix  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You're welcome. I never had the problem you're describing. Are you following the proper procedure before disconnecting? The fuel bottle has a "on" and "off" label at the top. Before packing up, while the stove is running, you have to flip the fuel bottle to the Off position and wait until the flame goes out. It takes about a minute. The air pressure in the fuel bottle will push all the fuel still in the line out, so there won't be anything to leak after that.

      @@CleverFix Genius..
      I was turning the round dial on the fuel bottle side to off but not flipping the bottle …to off. That was my mistake.
      So I should be leaving the round dial by the pump to continue at ..on, but flip the bottle instead ..to off and let it burn the excess fuel in the line.
      Thank you very much for the clarification.

    That was a clean stove; do you burn liquid fuels?

    • @CleverFix
      @CleverFix  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I only used Coleman Naphtha Liquid fuel.. it's expensive but burns clean. Have you burned any other type in this stove? I'd be interested to know how well it works with something cheaper.

    • @jla3772
      @jla3772 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I've burned kerosene and automotive gasoline but Coleman is by far the best. Kerosene burns good and hot once it gets heated up but it's messy and it stinks; automotive gas burns pretty much like Coleman but it too stinks! They get pretty dirty even with Coleman fuel but with a little maintenance they keep on burning. In my opinion the Optimus Nova is the best stove out there and I have or have had pretty much all of them. @@CleverFix

    You had such great tips I am wondering if you know why I am gettting an orange flame rather than the nice blue flame that indicates proper operation.
    Lots of hissing and yellow flame. Not enough air pressure? As my pump has been failing. Thank you

    Thanks for this well presented maintenance video of this very beautiful stove. I have one trivial question. Do you think it a must to depressurized the fuel bottle after each use while on the trail or is it okay to leave it as is with pressure still present? I am just considering with minimal actuations like pumping again when you want to cook later, it lessens the wear and tear of the cup and other orings inside the plunger. Any thoughts on this?

    • @CleverFix
      @CleverFix  ปีที่แล้ว

      Here's what the manual says: "If you turn off the stove using the control valve only, fuel will remain in the hose and the bottle will stay
      pressurized. This will cause a fuel spill when you dismantle the stove or transport it in your pack"
      Basically the biggest risk I see, is that the top of the bottle can get twisted open and letting the pressure and some fuel out.. either by it moving in a backpack, or by someone accidentally unscrewing the top.. If there are kids around, don't keep it under pressure, and it's not a good idea to be hiking with it under pressure.
      I usually leave it under pressure overnight outside of the tent and between uses at the same campsite only when there's nobody around that might play with it.. When I leave the site, I flip it to OFF until flame goes out to depressurize it.
      Whenever I leave it pressurized, I make sure to the turn the little knob to OFF on the fuel bottle.. the manual says some fuel may shoot out when disconnecting the hose under pressure.. I've never had that happen..maybe because of the little knob. The manual is here: www.optimusstoves.com/downloads/optimus/manuals/manual_nova-plus_en.pdf in case you want to read it.

    Isn't that lubricant meant only for pump leather?

    • @CleverFix
      @CleverFix  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      According to the manual, the lubricant can be used on o-rings as well.
      From: www.optimusstoves.com/downloads/optimus/manuals/manual_nova_en.pdf
      "CHECKING THE O-RINGS
      The tip of the fuel hose has an o-ring which may benefit from lubrication so they function satisfactorily in cold climates. Use Optimus lubricant or another oil which can withstand harsh cold"

    Where do I buy just the leather cup? Is this a generic or common part?

    • @CleverFix
      @CleverFix  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's included in the rebuild kit, link in video description. If you lubricate it regularly, it will last a very long time though. The hole size for the screw can be different, and the width can be different, so they're not really generic, but if you find any other similar one, it could work.
