His parents are being greedy. I have seen their interviews, they are creating a scene. According to them, the wife should not get benefits because she was only married for 5 months and didn’t have any kid. It’s their family problem that they are bringing in public. About the award, as parents they have right to have that but rather giving her time, they started this rant. Everyone is in pain here, but the parents think they are entitled to have everything because they made huge sacrifices. If they had cared for their son or daughter in law, none of these would have happened. In this particular case, the parents are wrong.

65 lac mile hai parents ko bhi. Unka 8 saal ka relation tha or unhone family k against love marriage ki thi. Isme uske waha rukne jesa bhi kuch nahi tha. On the contrary, people still feel and have a moral code is what proves. Army rules are redundant and should be revised. Nok should be both parents and the wife. Here the girl is young and will definitely move on in life, already left for her hometown, I believe. She took the medal. Changed the future address of correspondence as her hometown's. Why? What souvenir did the parents get? When she marries elsewhere, will she carry her former husband's medal to the new house? But the parents, will always have that medal as a memory because they won't be moving with a new son.
@sanjaysingha4346 NOK is basically a will where the soldier can add his dependents such as spouse and parents and declare a percentage share. In short, Mrs.Smriti has gotten according to what Capt. Anshuman has declared. The NOK rules were updated to mandatorily include spouse (if applicable) to a minimum of 50% share after many widows of the martyrs in Kargil war were mistreated by their in laws.
@sanjaysingha4346 Its not fair to be critical of someone without knowing their side of the story. The parents are not helpless, Capt. Anshuman's father is a veteran himself and a defence pensioner. They also have two other Sons. Mrs.Smriti has not done anything wrong, she has not taken away anything which she is not supposed to. The value system in Capt. Anshuman's family seems to be different than the one in which Mrs.Smriti has grown up in. She has every right to live as per her choices and if she felt uncomfortable to stay further with her in laws, then its up to her. Capt Anshuman's father has already spoken about potentially remarrying his daughter in law to his younger son on national television, which is definitely not an appropriate behavior at this time of grief and extremely patriarchal/misogynistic. The parents also are grieving, but resorting to name calling on national television will only further alienate their daughter in law and tarnish the honour of Capt. Anshuman.
