This is priceless. I cannot thank whoever filmed this enough for making the effort to capture this incredible talk by Greg. I met his wife in a supermarket in Fulham Road in 1970, we were all high and were larking about in the shop and then she invited us back to their mews house.. Greg was as you see here except young and stunning in velvet like a king, but charming and humble. He played us the album they had done and then mentioned that he wasn't that happy with it, could have been better etc...We assured him it was a mindblowing masterpiece, which it was. At one point he passed around a silver snuff case and it was dutifully handed like a silver chalice from person to person. Us teenagers all thought it was coke or smack and got excited, but no, it was snuff. We were still deeply respectful of the ritual nonetheless, it was like being in church. Greg;s wife was mesmerisingly beautiful and really into sharing her joy and laughter, by the time we got to their place from the supermarket I was madly in love. I remember feeling rather silly about the snuff when we left. Greg and his wife were the epitomy of London hippy arty cool at the time, great people who lived the love.. The man in this amazing film is the same man. Love and respect are not fitting words to capture what feelings come up for Greg Lake, one of the human greats. What a lucky man.

Not only was Greg well spoken but very deep. He no doubt cared about his fans and is so articulate about his answers. So humble considering his lofty place in musical history. Don't know how he was when he was younger but here he is so personable.

I got the vibe, watching their documentaries and videos, that he was very much like this video of the cruise. He always had the brightest, sweetest smile and talked so sincerely. There wasn't even a hint of him being superior to anyone else. Like 'Rosie' said, he was a gentle giant and a beautiful soul.

I am so grateful that these talks by Greg Lake have been preserved. He is so right about the power of music! ‘Lucky Man’ came out when I was 11, and has always been in the back of my mind. A twelve year old lad opened his heart and wrote it, what sweet simplicity!

I spoke briefly to Greg Lake (talk about a dream situation)after an ELP show in 1992.I found him to be a very cordial, polite & personable man.A true gentleman. There was so much I wanted to talk to him about but there were others around who also wanted a shot at meeting him.I know at times,Keith said Greg wasn't always Mr.Nice Guy or wasn't always pleasant to work with but being in a world class band is not the easiest thing for anybody. The Greg Lake I met, however, was an awesome guy.Miss him terribly,RIP.Greg, you are among the greats in rock music.

At 53 secs he's talking about albums; I held my King Crimson album cover up & he said "there you go, how nice of you"
I asked the question at 24:37, which he misunderstood (from there to the end of this video, he's talking to ME! what an experience!). He thought I was asking which was his favorite song, but I was asking which was his favorite group that he had played with.
I re-asked him when he signed my King Crimson album cover, & his answer was "King Crimson"

Dashing off to listen to the original version of Luck Man on UT just now, I felt just like I did in 1972 when I wandered into an audio store at 12 years old. The surround sound speakers of the highest quality where adjusted just right to allow me to melt into the music, and the guy just let me sit there astounded at what I was hearing for as long as I wanted. What a memory.

When I married my wife, who was a professional musician and singer, I was playing some ELP, she fell in love with Greg's voice. She was not familiar with ELP. She thought Greg had one of the greatest voices ever .
At the beginning she thought it was weird ass music After awhile she got it. And became a huge ELP fan.
We went to three concerts and she was in ecstasy.
It's pretty cool walking into the house and finding you wife banging out Tarkus or Trilogy or Karn Evil 9 on the piano!

I have loved Moody Blues for years & ELP too.
I was on TH-cam a few days ago & I discovered a video of Greg singing I Believe in Father Christmas when he was much younger & I listened & cried relializing that Greg had died back in 2016. Then I remembered listening to this song & I had forgotten about.
Such a beatiful talented man he was. A Lucky Man he was. Imagine writing songs at 12 years old!!!!!
So I've been watching & listening to Greg Lake.
Greg was right about music being a trigger for us ofca certain generation. Music has the ability to bring us back to memories of our youth or whatever was happening to us at the time. So true.
Classical music played such a huge part of his creativity when song writing, same with The Moody Blues too.
The world lost a musical creative artist & a wonderful storyteller. A sweet man, words cannot describe this soul.
Wish I had a man like Greg Lake in my life. Rest in Peace 🙏.

When I was a kid, we all seemed to be taking music lessons. You had to learn classical music, it's how you were taught. I never liked it back then. I was introduced to ELP by my boyfriend in high school. He played guitar, I played accordion and piano. I was really blown away by the fusion of classical and rock music. It was truly unique. I've been a fan ever since. I got to like classical music. Pictures at an Exhibition was brilliant, to me, it sounded better than the original version, which was written for piano. I even had the Promenade played at my wedding.

    “I've tried to mend
    The love that ended
Long ago although we still pretend
Our love is surely coming to an end
Don't waste the time you've got to love again
    We tried to lie
    But you and I
Know better than to let each other lie
The thought of lying to you makes me cry
Counting up the time that's passed us by
I've sent this letter hoping it will reach your hand
And if it does I hope that you will understand
That I must leave in a while
    And though I smile
You know the smile is only there to hide
What I'm really feeling deep inside
Just a face where I can hang my pride
    Goodbye 💫
    Goodbye💫
We'll talk of places that we went
And times that we have spent
    Together penniless and free
You'll see the day another way
And they could put the sunshine
for a nighttime where you lay
    You're love began I don't know when
But if you do I know that
you'll be happy in the end”

Tino you are a lucky man to have seen ELP. Even if the best P wasn't with them at that time. One of my biggest regrets was never having seen any incarnation of ELP live. I thought about going accross the pond for their last gig but didn't. I should have as I sensed that was the going to be the last chance.

First concert I ever saw ELP at the Greenbay brown county arena. It was 1977 and what a amazing show. They each took a bit of a solo each of there own talent alone on stage. They were larger than life and in my mind still are. Thanks for the post!
