I have found that whenever I call Kali throughout my day, it's like She runs to me with such urgency. I call her so simply. I say in a sing-song voice, "Kaaaaaaliiii" and immediately i feel her near. I know that she wasn't anywhere far from me. I know she was already there, but by my acknowledgement of Her, She sort of rises in me excitedly. And it always makes me cry to know how much she wants to be there with me. So what you say about just saying "Om Kali" in your japa is absolutely true.
I’m wondering about my experience going to a temple for Kali puja. I was expecting like a service, the actual puja, but it was people hanging out and putting offerings around Kali. At some point there was a man who read mantras a at the statue but he read them to himself and you couldn’t hear anything. Is this like a usual experience? I was there for 3 hours or so a few years ago. I’ve also performed the puja at home but I’d much prefer to go somewhere where they already cleaned the dishes and vacuumed the floor.
This is actually so comforting to read. I went to a Durga Puja recently and experienced exactly this. I first perceived the experience as isolating and uncomfortable, but as I feel more comfortable with my belief in Maa Kali I'm so thankful for my experience to have been what it was.
