Always nice when you arrive back in "civilisation" and food and petrol aren't so scarce! You made it across Labrador, Kinga! Now onward, to Route 389 and Manic-5!!
The black flies last in Labrador from June to September now, and a fly suit is a must. We even wear them hanging clothes on the line. Glad you had a chance to explore Newfoundland and Labrador.
Flies are bad enough as you know quite well but biting ones , that is not cool . There is always other land travelers to meet wherever you go . Chilli seems to hold up well and gives a good ride . Probably because Kinga you do not abuse her on rough offroad riding that much . Stay well stay safe , good video.
Ah what a lovely surprise finding another video soon after the previous one. I love following you and your easy going style. I am really puzzled about the crazy amount of flies and mossies in that region. It's the last thing I expected. I also follow Itchy Boots and was so surprised when she too found the flies and mossies. I was thinking you have to be quick in and out of your tent else those pests would invade given any opportunity. It's so sweet the way you talk to your Chilli 😁👍 onwards and may 2023 bring you and Chilli many more adventures and safe Kms and special times. Hope you get your Lone Rider tent soon!
My Dad used to give us Vitamin B tablets 2 weeks before going up north in the Algonquin bush lands. The blacks flies would still swarm around us, but not land and bite. Annoying little buggers. When they bite Moose around the eyes I've been told, they start running for the nearest water, too bad you got in the way.
Rode the same route in the opposite direction in early June, no flies! Recognized several stops. The mornings were cold but it warmed up each day. Thanks!
Those nice little black flies are known to force the moose you haven't seen out onto the highway in an attempt to escape. Good thing you had the net jacket. Enjoyed the video.
I hate flies and mosquitoes, but they seem to love you very much and I understand them. No luck with the rain, but the sun will eventually shine. It’s always exciting to drive with you!
White witch has got nothing on you sweetheart..here I am lying in my comfortable bed in sofia and am having a ball.. I live in Happy Valley-Goose Bay, if I had known earlier that you were passing through I would have rounded up a bunch of bikers to escort you into town. 😃👍 Ride safe. 😎
You were getting the Great Canadian Biting Fly Welcome! Nothing ruins great camping weather more than biting insects in Canada. Those looked like big horse flies or deer flies, not little black flies.
I hope you can see some bears and moose -safely. I was in no danger, because it was heading elsewhere, but a grizzly came within fifty feet of me in Yellowstone. Such a beautiful animal. The emptiness of the road where you are is amazing.
Now I finally know where fox and rabbit say good night to each other. But I think you find this remoteness and the "nasty-fly-ness " also in Australia. You seem to know how to cope with it well.
Your fashionable new clothing ;-) reminds me again about my own Trans-Canada trip in 2013. You'r gonna like this story! Entering Canada in Halifax, the officer of homeland security was obviously not convinced that I came for three months and did NOT intend to work in the country. While everybody else left the arrival hall to the right hand side, I was sent to another exit for a special investigation. There two nice homeland security ladies expected me and let me unpack all my gear. Then we came down to my Original Canadian Bug Shirt, similar to yours. I told them I had bought it already at home, because I had heard many horrible stories about those flies and wanted to prepared. They looked at each other, laughed out loud and said: "Ok, welcome to Canada. Your are going to need it! Get your stuff packed again and enjoy the trip!" They were finally convinced...🙂
Hair is looking Good Kinga...... The fly`s would stop me going there....... If there is anything that can bite, it will bite Me....... Have a wonderful year on the road in 2023..... Many adventures to come.... :-)) xxx
I lıke a your channel, İ did watch your previous videos and you look much better now as energy, now i am anywhere in the world, I can also improve my English thanks to you by the way. good luck for video shoots BREAK A LEG :)🌎
Hey Kinga, I rode the Trans Labrador Highway in June but in the oppositedirection. I saw , literally, dozens of bears between Happy-Valley/Goose Bay and Port Hope-Simpson. So many so that I decided not to wild camp! But we totally had the rain and blackflies that you had! Great video. Thanks
@onherbike Funny enough, we were considering camping where you got stuck (previous video, wished I could have helped). It was raining, and we saw several bears with cubs in that vicinity, so we rode on. We couldn't find anywhere to stay until Red Bay. We started that day in Churchill Falls, so it was an 800km day. It was amazing and one of the greatest days of my life. I am reliving my trip through your channel. I am looking forward to seeing your journey past Fermont and on to Baie Comeau! Stay safe! Dave 🇨🇦
Flies are one thing. S A N D flies are another thing altogether, they bloody sting. Got zapped by loads of them on South Island, New Zealand... very irritating. Loving your videos, Kinga - thanks for sharing your travels with us
More familiar sights. They had premium there, but if you are at a gas station that doesn't have premium in Labrador or NFLD, you can buy octane booster that they use for snowmobiles!
It's a shame you didn't have time for Goose. I spent one the best weeks of my life there in the 90s the year the freedom highway opened all the way up. Wonderful people.
Fun bug net. You look a bit like in a chrysalis. On another topic, how do you charge all your batteries? If you rely only on Chillie, did you have to upgrade the alternator ?
Yes, I'm charging mainly of the battery but I also have a couple of power banks if I need to charge stuff in my tent over night. I still have the original alternator.
Check out 'smidge spary' it's excellent for fly mosquito, etc. It's naturally made in Scotland. I've tested it with the Scottish midges lol and its very good 👍
Yes, I was going to mention the same. The midges in the Highlands in Scotland are minute in comparison. How do residents put up with those giants ?? I have a net to cover my head whilst climbing.
The sound quality on your vlogs is only bested by your hair! Are you using your Sena unit? If so,, is it hard wired to your Gopro or are you using the blue tooth feature?
I hate those flies. The ones around here take skin when they bite and then it itches like crazy. Hopefully you had lots of good tunes to listen to, when you were in those straight stretches. Five years on the road and still not there yet.
Did you have a fire there? What did you eat? So much is missing here! And yes, I know what you mean when going on a long journey like that then you see someone on a bicycle doing the same thing! Moose, wolf and bear generally do everything they can to NOT be seen and they can hear/smell you coming from a mile away. This is a good thing. It's when it's real easy to get close to one that you should be worried. I was amazed that jug stayed put like that for such a long way, especially bopping around in the soft gravel like you were doing!
Nothing is missing. I didn't have a fire and I was to tired to eat so I went straight to bed after setting up my tent. These nasty flies made it just impossible to stay outside.
@@onherbike omg I don't know how you do it Kinga. I would be feeling so sick from not eating properly out there. Proper eating is so important when travelling like that. I've run into that problem before and regretted it deeply. I guess it's easier to go all day on nothing but a muffin and a swig of soda when you're younger! You need to take better care of yourself soon!
i can help you describe the little vampires .they saw in so fast it feels like a electric shock high voltage (deer flys-black flys found in alpine swamps tundra ☠️
