Macross' Roy & Hikaru → Sonic the Hedgehog's Sonic & Tails → Final Fantasy VII's Zack & Cloud → Final Fantasy XV's Noctis & Prompto. All of these 'pairings have in common. Final Fantasy XV was implied to be Prompto's fantasy, much like Final Fantasy VII's Cloud's fake First Class Soldier persona, whom he based on his close friend and senior, Zack. I guessed that Prompto could be considered as another Cloud, but he chased after Noctis instead of Zack. Also Cloud got scared after finding out that he is one of Shinra's experiements. When Cloud entered Shinra's military, he was tested for compability with Jenova cells and Mako infused. He failed. Later on, he was experimented on anyway along with Zack, after Nibelheim was burned down. Even after they escaped from Nibelheim's Shinra Mansion. The Jenova cells incompatibility with Cloud started to shown, as Jenova attempted to take over Cloud's mind. Later on after Tifa showed up, he used his fake Cloud the First Class Soldier to impress him. That managed to stabilize things, Jenova took control of Cloud the Soldier, while Cloud the Nibelheim Villager rests at the background. See also Xenogears' Fei and his multiple personalities.
