- Diesel engine guru Ron Doerr takes us on a short tour of a marine diesel engine looking at its components and sharing some highlights on maintenance.
These are Detroit 692 TA turbo-aftercooled units, around 500 horsepower.
Ron is the principal of Diesels Plus in Florida and is an old school master mechanic. He knows diesels inside and out and is determinedly relentless at making them behave.
what a complete legend you are Ron, i have learnt so much ive e mailed this to myself so i can keep viewing this information to remind me when iam rebuilding than engine, mine ar the V8-92TAs a pair of them in my Hatteras 52 cay

I have the same engines and setup, Great video! I’m doing an in frame rebuild on one…myself..
I’m in the Gulf coast Alabama area. No Detroit mechanics in the region so self teaching. My engines are non ddec 550 hp. I’m always seeking info!
Ours have been derated to 450hp by changing injectors; better mileage?
@@billdomb Do you get full rpm? Did you have to change props?
@@markflynfloat6779 Prolly lost 100 rpm; never changed props

Do marine engines have oil pan baffles for rough seas operation . Are Gray marine engines popular ?
