Thanks to everyone who has watched, liked and commented. Grant and I had a great time doing this!! Since I selected all my tracks from the Billboard year end hot 100, many of you have asked me what I would have selected if I went outside of that list. I might look something like this: 1. I (Who Have Nothing) - Tom Jones 2. Gethsemane (I Only Want to Say) - Jesus Christ Superstar 3. Young Man Blues - The Who 4. Hard Lovin' Man - Deep Purple 5. Fairies Wear Boots - Black Sabbath 6. Out on the Tiles - Led Zeppelin 7. Take a Pebble - Emerson, Lake & Palmer 8. It Better End Soon - Chicago 9. Machine Gun - Jimi Hendrix 10. I'm Your Captain (Closer to Home) - Grand Funk Railroad
I watched a interview with Jake E Lee where he said that Terry Kath was a huge influence on him. I thought that was fascinating, because I have no idea what elements of Terry's playing influenced Jake. 1970 for me would be all about Zeppelin, Sabbath, Purple, Heep, and other bands whose first names I'm ignoring. Maybe the Doors. Free. Badfinger. Actually, Grant, I'm shocked you didn't mention Badfinger. Both "No Matter What" and "Come and Get It" came out in 1970.
I'm your captain(closer to home) by Grand Funk Railroad is probably no.1 for me.Thinking about a top ten is a serious challenge and Great job doing it!
Gotta go with Bomber(James Gang)... Who'll Stop The Rain(CCR)... Wizard(Sabbath)... Although Deep Purple, Waylon Jennings,Pink Floyd and The Who would've probably been my favorites from that era....if I had been born then.
Black Night- Deep Purple War Pigs- Black Sabbath All Right Now- Free Roadhouse Blues- The Doors Oye Como Va- Santana Immigrant Song- Led Zeppelin Ride Captain Ride- Blues Image War- Edwin Starr Didnt I Blow Your Mind- The Delfonics The Rapper- The Jaggerz
Great list. New subscriber/ musician here. My top 10 in no particular order 1)to cry you a song.. Jethro Tull. 2) theme from an imaginary Western.. Mountain. 3)Sins a good man's brother..Grand Funk. 4) Machine Gun.. Hendrix. 5) Tangerine.. Zeppelin. 6)Black Sabbath..Black Sabbath. 7)What is life like.. George Harrison. 8)Take a Pebble..E.L.P 9)Deja Vu..Crosby Stills Nash & Young. 10)Where to now St.Peter...Elton John.
The Green-Eyed Lady was playing her Green Tambourine lol.I remember reading about Randy Bachman he was saying that the other artist who came out with American Woman was his best friend because of the royalties lol
Outstanding job guys! Agree with just about all your choices. No one had or has a voice like Karen Carpenter. Always a tinge of sadness to her voice. If you want to bring a tear to my eyes, just play Bless The Beasts And The Children. Not my favorite Carpenters song, but it ALWAYS gets to me.
@@GrantsRockWarehaus Ha! I know, so much great music that has stood the test of time. I would have to stick to the Billboard Top 100 to even have a chance of whittling it down to ten songs. But you both did great!
Interesting lists. Plenty of tunes that I haven't heard, so plenty to catch up on! 1970 was a great year for folk-rock, and with that in mind, I think I might go with: 1. Lindisfarne - Lady Eleanor 2. Fairfield Parlour - And Emily Made Confetti 3. Fairport Convention - Doctor Of Physick 4. Al Stewart - Gethsemane Again 5. Forest - Graveyard 6. Marvin, Welch & Farrar - Throw Down A Line 7. Steeleye Span - Blackleg Miner 8. Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young - Carry On/Questions 9. Cat Stevens - Sad Lisa 10. The Byrds - Yesterday's Train
Great choices and a few songs that I used to hear often on radio but alas modern radio formats have squeezed out. I need to check out that Beach Boys song!
This is a really tough one. I think that my list today could be this but I'm not 100% sure: Down in the street (The Stooges) I stand accused (Isaac Hayes) the album version Ride a White Swan (T-Rex) Memo from Turner (Mick Jagger) (Don't Worry) If There's a Hell Below We're All Going to Go (Curtis Mayfield) Second Cousin (Flaming Groovies) Looking at you (MC5) Still Waters (The Four Tops) After The Gold Rush (Neil Young) Rock and Roll (The Velvet Underground)
It's okay Jon, your list could change daily. What a great list...and kinda obscure! Well played Jon, well played! Please like and subscribe if you haven't already :-)
Raindrops keep falling on my head - BJ Thomas Get ready - Rare Earth Mississippi Queen - Mountain I believe in you - Neil Young Who needs ya - Steppenwolf Layla - Derek and the Dominos Funk #49- James Gang Temptation Eyes - the Grass Roots Your Song - Elton John Cheater - Bloodrock

I'm sure Randy probably needed those royalties at that point too! Such a great track...a classic!
