It's tempting to draw overwatch cones as far as you can, but your mercenaries don't have perfect aim. It might be better to have shorter cones where your bullets can actually hit the target.
Some things I like to add: Left-ALT to toggle interactables Sectorinventory isn't limited to 16 spaces, it expands as you put more stuff in there Medics CAN heal themselves contrary to what some reviewers claim (Maybe it changed before launch?) Livewire's skill is a gamechanger (If you have intel on a sector every enemies position is always known to you), she also makes big money from her hacking (essentially making her free)
@@PartyElite But can medics save themselves if they are downed? My medic was downed in combat and bleeding out, but no one could save him so i just bled out and died.

This reminds me i need to test if you can throw ammo to a teammate that ran out. At least we can loot bodies dunring combat in the case it is needed, but not sure about downed teammates that havent died yet.

All soldiers will essentially have access to ammo at all times (as long as there is some left in your squad invetory). @Ebb0Productions If a soldier is down, they can not make any actions. You can always have a second soldiers with around 40-50 med skill to act as nurse and save your medic.
If you don't care about custom merc, you can minimize all their combat stats during creation and max out all utility stats like medical, mechanichal, leadership etc. and use them for all skill checks/militia training/repair/modification in the game, allowing you to pick hired mercs only for combat.
I put my custom merc to a separate one-person squad and use him as a support character. With his high leadership, he is able to train militias quickly. If a town being attacked, I just send him to deal with the enemy in cooperation with the local militia. Furthermore, he has no special needs to attend to. He is a great help to my main squad; his support helps the others to keep moving forward, and it's saves a lot of time (and money).
Careful overusing overwatch, the ammunition cost of a full overwatch with an ak can consume up to 18 bullets in a single turn. A lot of the people complains about ammo are due to early game overusage of it.
I get mixed results from using overwatch. Often I find its better to start a combat without using it, since the mercs who are in overwatch start the first round with no AP, and they wasted it on un-aimed shots, doing little damage or missing entirely.
Some people are confused about WHO performs checks. You still need to pick the highest "statted" person for that specific check. Dont use the select all and check version as it mainly picks the merc closest to the targeted item. Ive seen the select all option use the merc with horrible skill attempt to disarm mines. Result....Boom. Bada Boom.
At least for mercs you plan keeping long-term. That's also why I felt Kalyna is a newbie-trap. Sure she is a good sniper and mechanic early on, but then I noticed it would be hard to train her to keep up with the squad.
@@MarvMarvensen Kalyna is very cheap and can be kept as a member of your B squad. You can also train her with one of your better mercs (good leadership is advised here) to make her even better in both Marksmanship and Mechanical. With some investment she can be a real keeper till late game.
This, I trained Barry and live wire just once with my leader perk 85+ leadership Merc on marksmanship and they both gained 6-7 levels of it in just 2 days. That's very fast.
I'm pretty early in the game and fell exactly for that. I've had her for three weeks now as my "sharpshooter". She's dumb as bricks but she's a trooper.
R&R will heal wounds in addition to giving Well Rested bonus, most of the time you do not need to doctor Fix your equipment regularly, even mercs with half decent MEC like Barry and Igor can perform equipment maintenance Take aim at a distance, ammo is scarce early game so you want to make the most of it. Melee enemies when you have the chance though be mindful not to get caught out of cover without APs left. Overwatch is triggered once for enemy actions, and in general enemies will perform 2 actions each turn XCom style and both actions may trigger it. Use environmental items like stationary MGs whenever possible as this don't consume your ammo directly. Always have everyone reload when battle ends, some weapons are not automatically reloaded (bug?) Running out of inventory space? Go to Sat View and select one of the options on the bottom right that let you set sector inventory. Stash your items in sectors you frequent, preferably one that has militias. Letting militias fight will save you ammo, and they will become Elite in no time but try to make sure they don't die.
I'm not 100% sure, but i think the post combat reload will only reload the weapon(s) in the primary (top) slot. I was keeping my rifles in the bottom slot and wasnt getting it reloaded, once i switched it to the top it started working again.
Did I make a mistake not giving my stealthy knife wielder disarm/disable skills because will he not be able to sneak around without those skills if there are traps? I haven't seen any traps yet
I have found that snipers and machine guns working in unison is often the best way to eradicate the enemy. Even better if you have one or two mercs with grenade launchers and HE ammo. This is hard to come by, at least early on, but it makes a real impact (pun intended). I love this game. I also loved the previous installments, and despite it not being entirely the same, I do think the level of details in this game is enough to keep me busy for a good while.
grenades are a life saver in the eraly game. Barry is perhaps the best character to take since he automatically makes explosive charges every couple of days. don't leave home without them.
Save your diamonds as you can sell them for a higher price, or trade them for loot boxes. Some loot boxes hold learning magazines which boost your stats. Never underestimate the power of improvised silencers on weapons. I managed a 4 vs 16 using stealth and silenced gewehrs. Skill stats don't mean someone with 100 marksman will hit every shot. (I tested this and out of 10 shots only 6 hit with optimum distance, weapon mods, no cover, no moving target The next time they hit 9 out of 10. It's hugely inconsistent. Last thing, bring an explosives expert. Barry the cheapest fella is fantastic even up to late game. When you go loud in a sector often 3,4,5 or even 6 enemies can clump together towards the nearest dead body. (Not always though) and if they do, Barry can lob two grenades and take out even armoured people. Also disarming mines yields parts for gun upgrades. Explosives can kill more than someone with a mounted .50 cal machine gun in one turn.
@@PaddyyYY even if it's for the extra cash it's worth it. But the loot boxes yielded items worth more than the 500 trade in. One was a box of grenades, Molotov's and pipe bombs. Molotovs at the trader are 800 each. The pipe bombs are pretty useless I found as the explode after the enemy has had a turn to move away. So instead combine the pipe bomb with the wire cutters to get gunpowder which can potentially be more useful depending on your playstyle. If you are going to hire another explosives expert, make sure he has higher strength than Barry to throw the grenades farther and have at least a minimum of 8 action points to be able to throw two in one turn )Barry has 8 already. Mix that with the perk where he gets a free move after throwing and you'll have a very versatile player. Also check the shields on outposts. Hovering over the shield will tell you what is required to take the shield away making the outpost easier with less enemies. I've started another slower paced walkthrough using my experience and I've taken over the first mine with 6 mercs, 50k in the bank and only a daily fee defecit of 304. Oh and the RPK looks very similar to the AKM but is very different. Stick a bipod on that with someone with overwatch when you go loud and it can be a lifesaver. With your own player created Merc give him zero medical, mechanical and explosives and boost your main attributes. If you train your main character with someone they can get up to 50 very easily and quickly, but there's really no need to have any points in any of them if you get a specialist in each. Sorry for blabbering on, I'm just trying to help everyone as this game is unforgiving.
Does the big diamonds or blue sapphires also have a special deal like tiny diamonds for loot boxes or something? Also tip: Save at least some of the chien frank money bags. In port Curacao there is a junk fisher guy you can buy useful stuff off of with them. Maybe just stash them into that sector
I feel like this is a good place to ask! I have encountered Locations such as Repair shops, cleared the area from the enemies, but I can't find the way to use that repair shop, for example, it says no operations available. Should those hospitals/repair shops/etc be available as soon as i clear the area or is it a bit more complicated?
It depends on the town/location. Some of them will require you to complete a quest before they can trust you and accept your soldiers as allies. Talk to the NPCs in town and see whether you can help them out.
This game is deep. Stealth snipers are actually the least AP efficient build, and when you get into actual fight are probably the worst soldier type to have.

For this particular map you should have done recon and youd know theres an opening on the left and right of the main road so you can pinch the enemy attacking from both sides at the same time

the Custom Merc doesnt have a special perk. if you dont care about special perks then its fine. careful when using overwatch. some angles will make your character step out of cover.
I just started playing this game and I am very disappointed. I know I need to get over the fact it isn't JA2 but I did the first encounter no big deal and then the second encounter was stupid - my mercs shoot trees and do 9 points of damage - hit a guy with a burst from an uzi and he is severely wounded but the baddies shoot from long distances and i tallied up the damage before I hit escape and went to another game - 32, 27, 19, 12. Where can I get damage like that? I get challenging but this was just lame.
Using the high ground etc is discussed in the other video - having the whole crew on the low ground here made it cleaner to go back and forth between them and show the different things I was talking about without the camera constantly having to bounce back and forth.
Not a fan of the morale/fatigue AP death spiral. It punishes learning players and it means if you do badly it might make sense to just restart rather than tough it out and try to recover.
Morale is a good thing and you can even raise it to give you additional AP. Fatigue can be managed by simply stopping for a day or two in a sector and doing some operations, while the rest of the squad gets some rest. Usually I would do some scouting and repair, which are both beneficial for your next missions.
Using the questionaire to make the IMP is not a "mistake" unless you completely forgot to enjoy videos games for entertainment. In which case, fair enough. Game is perfectly playable when not min-maxing the heck out of every decision.
The "mistake" is not doing it at all. I just mentioned skipping the questionnaire for those who like to min-max. As somebody who personally prefers to RP and have fun, we're on the same page haha.
The weapon balance is absurd. The sniper rifle does more damage in one shot than an assault rifle does with three of the same bullets. The only weapons that are worth having are the sniper rifle for distance and the shotgun for close range. Having one or two characters that can throw grenades is also a good idea. Every other weapon is a waste of time because of how ridiculously underpowered they are.
This game is becoming unplayable for me. I don’t feel like it’s a hard game, your mercs just miss ALL THE TIME. I’m getting my mercs within range and they’re missing easy headshots and torso shot. So defeating seeing raven (94 marksmanship) and steroid (91)miss overwatch shots on Pierre just to have him come up and machete Fidel and Thor. He’s literally winning a gunfight with a machete. My mercs couldn’t hit water if they fell out of a boat. Also when I use full auto on Pierre within range it does like 7 damage😑. Am I the only one getting super duper frustrated with this game?

And it is inaccurate af. It’s dumb enough to fire and hit your own teammates or just get stopped by terrain.

Did not know that. I wish it used th highest skill like Wasteland 2/3
Max Wisdom on your Merc and hire mercs with high Wisdom. They wil learn (increase stats) faster. It is the same as in JA2.

I remember the days of jagged aliance 2 where you could take the first settlements only with Dmitri, a bit of stealth and a pair of throwing knives.

Do not clump up if at all possible. Not far into the game, you start running into rpg/grenades and clumping is punishing.
Every tactics player has the moment where they realize their “sniper blob” strategy isn’t gonna cut it anymore. That’s where the real fun begins.

Go into tactical map, there's probably a quest in there you need to do to claim it

i played the game, the game should be turn based all together real time is not working for my liking
This game is becoming unplayable for me. I don’t feel like it’s a hard game, your mercs just miss ALL THE TIME. I’m getting my mercs within range and they’re missing easy headshots and torso shot. So defeating seeing raven (94 marksmanship) and steroid (91)miss overwatch shots on Pierre just to have him come up and machete Fidel and Thor. He’s literally winning a gunfight with a machete. My mercs couldn’t hit water if they fell out of a boat. Also when I use full auto on Pierre within range it does like 7 damage😑. Am I the only one getting super duper frustrated with this game?

First major mistake is not changing Sharpness to low or off in the graphics menu!
