The House of Lancaster and Richard II-English Monarchs-John of Gaunt-Henry IV-Queen Joan of Navarre

  • We view for the very first time, an accurate face re-creation of king Richard II, his uncle John of Gaunt the wealthiest and most powerful noble in England, as well as his son Henry Bolingbroke, later known as king Henry IV, and his wife Queen Joan of Navarre.
    A timeline of the events that caused the downfall of Richard II, with the end of his reign also came the end of the main bloodline of the House Plantagenet, with the Lancastrian dynasty gaining the throne by an act of usurpation. All these actions set in motion a series of events, that would later lead to the Wars of the Roses.

    I think Richard II's face should be shortened a bit. The art at the time elongated the faces of everyone for some reason. Love the vids!

    My quest many years ago started at Flint castle North Wales, a small sign read here waited Richard 2nd for Henry Bolingbrook, i pondered what had happened to him ,that small sign started something that took me all over England in search of the wars of the roses so many castle and battle fields from Pontefract to towton to Tewksbury to St Albans , Its been a pleasure to watch your video which brings those characters back to life. Its also rekindled the passion for English history thank you, Cheshire UK

    Great video as always. Only thing I missed was the depiction of Anne of Luxembourg - a Bohemian princess and the daughter of the emperor Charles IV. Anne was Richard's first wife and had a great influence on her husband including during the peasant revolt. Due to her kind nature and calming influence on the king she became known as " good queen Anne". And even though the marriage remained childless and Anne was not considered a beauty a primarily political union is said to become a love match and Anne's death was deeply mourned by Richard.

    • @cinnow
      @cinnow 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      John of Gaunt is also the ancestor of Henry Tudor, Henry VII through one of his children with his mistress Catherine Swynford. These children, the Beauforts, were legitimised by Richard II on condition they would never inherit the crown. The Beauforts were loyal to the Crown and would never have thought of putting forth a claim. But when all Lancastrians die off during the wars of the Roses, only a Beaufort descendant remains to claim the throne for Lancaster. Henry Tudor.

Yet I know he engaged in nepotism promoting his friends and favorites regardless of if they were competent or not and according the historians, he was either gay or bisexual as he showed extreme affection to Robert DeVere, the Earl of Oxford...

Even the contemporary images will often have been created to flatter and to promote an impression of power rather than a truly accurate likeness.
