Should have done HVAC, instead, I started my own custom upholstery biz, which I loved, for 30 years. Like I never worked a day in my life. But love HVAC too, and your videos. I wish You My best.....

    Hey mate.
Enjoying ya vids. I'm an HVAC installer in Australia and its interesting to see different types of systems.
In Australia we use springs fixed to the inside neck of the boot... then hooked to the neck of the grill/out let pulling it hard upto the sheet rock.. no fixings/screws on the outside leaving a cleaner look... maybe somthing youd be interested in.
    Appreciate you posting 🤙🤙

So when I went looking, i found out my house just plain doesn't have a dang vent in it. Period. Never was one from 1960 when the house was built. Gonna have to fix that, but my trunk line is also pretty jacked up. Grandfather cut a slot in the bottom and ran the pvc drain about 3" up into the 5" tall trunk line. I sealed it up for now and got some of my CFM back but the rooms that feed downstream of that still suffer. Gonna have to get creative to solve this one when the time comes LOL. Great video my friend!

I personally like the diffusers. I believe air tech makes them mv360 or something like that. They work like a handi box for Sheetrock you just cut a round hole pull the flex through and connect from a ladder then push in the hole and tighten four screws that have flaps that come out and tighten to the drywall. They are plastic but don’t seem to turn colors or anything like that from what I’ve seen. Super handy when by yourself. They also make a attachment for the drill to cut the holes out and catches the debris

ProTip: Get an Insulation Rod, or a coat hanger. Cut it on an angle with Line mans, Now you have a Pilot bit that is easy to patch.

Good idea on the boots. I’m using that next time . Beats framing with 2x4. I’m licensed in Ga and Al and like your videos. Thanks. I also just started making a few videos on TH-cam

Great Job!! I see you take pride in your work!!! I'll pass on a tip if your are open to it. When I was starting out in the trade a old timer showed me the best spotting bit and its free. Cut the the horizontal section of a stiff wire coat hanger. Take your hammer and flatten one end, then take your linesman pliers and cut two diagonal snips off it to make like a arrowhead. Put it in your drill and it will drill through wood, drywall etc and best if you mess up all you have is a tiny hole left. Its also great for when your trying to pull new stat wire up a wall. Just pull the baseboard away enough to fit the wire bit behind it, slide it behind and drill down to spot your location. Works like a champ. Keep up your good work Cheers!!

Hey Paul, I’m always open to learn something. I know exactly what you’re talking about, I used to have a couple rods in my toolbox just for this purpose. Over the years they have disappeared. I do prefer that method, looks like I need to re-stock some coat hangers! :) Thx for watching and giving your constructive criticism, much appreciated.

Smart to attach sheet metal around sheet rock so it stays solid on the vent. Good thinking... I like it! Glad you wearing that 😷! Save ya a lot stuff in your face!

Put the 4 flanges flat in attic and use drywall screws from the bottom offset center through sheetrock to pull hat down flush and hold metal flanges ,that way you save time.

I always cut right next to the stud and screw my duct into it

    • @JohnHVACR
      @JohnHVACR 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Me too, I also connect the flex to the boot then slide it from the attic down like 2”, after flanging it Outwards I secure it to the stud and lastly I install the grill.

Not sure if they are available where your at but we always use the MV diffusers by a company called Airtec the make them in a bunch of different configurations, and they use tabs or ears to sand which the sheet rock similar to OW electric box. And all you have to cut is a round hole. Little more money I think but a great time saver.

Bend the corners of the top boxes over it makes the tabs more rigid so the screws don’t push the tabs up.

Thanks much. I am renovating a small bathroom, an add on to an old 1800's home built before inside plumbing. The existing heating vent is in the floor of this very small bathroom with a vanity, tub and toilet.
The old plastic tube duct was in a small space under the floor. It was rusty and I am replacing it. Is it OK to install heating duct work in a bathroom floor?

SO should an HVAC supply vent for ac\heat be located on the baseboard level in a 2nd floor bathroom. In western PA climates. Plans are to remove the old rectangular duct and install possible 5in round into 6in oval transitions into rectangular existing wall stack or I might just go ahead and rip the duct within the walls out and go oval all the way up. Question is should this final supply vent be on the baseboard level or up on the wall higher..

I’m trying to find a video on how to move a bathroom floor heat/a/c register to the wall (a foot or two away). Can you help with this? Provide information on how to do this? I just purchased a new home that needs a lot of work and I’m doing most of the work myself. I can’t find any videos on how to do this?? Thank you!!
