How many miles out were you guys? were you straight out west of the harbor or were you south/west? we are going in two weeks. Congrats on that hook up.
You brought a knife to a gun fight. Bring a beefier rod and reel if you're going out west for big fish. That marlin can pull you for miles. Did you use sardines free line and trolled with it?
I was just fly lining a sardine. I wasn't expecting to hook into a fish like that. The rod is rated at 40 lb., and the reel is a 400 size with 300 yards of 50 lb braid. Plenty for the target species. Thanks!
