    I built one a year ago from accumulated scrap. Fits into a 2" receiver hitch. Front receivers are available pretty cheap. Makes installation a 1 point hookup. The lift on mine is a 12v winch. Makes the plow float on the ground. I used the shell from a pressure tank for the face of the plow.
    Fab hint.... scraps of sheet goods make excellent templates for multiple parts and goods guides for straight cuts with plasma. Wood patterns last for several 10s of parts before they need replacing.

    When you are making your back braces, stack all six iron on each other, clamp them tight, spot weld in 5or6 places to hold them. Then drill all the holes at once. Invest in a couple larger bits ( different sizes ) drilling in stages to fix you tubing. A lot easier, precise and faster than die grinding. When cutting angle iron, place in saw with V upside down, start cutting on the 90* corner, cuts much faster. Same with square tubing if you have good way hold it. Good looking plow!

    Awesome job, especially considering that most of it was cut free-hand using "CAD" technology, although I would have sought out somebody with a CNC plasma or laser for the contoured parts.
    Love the creative method of forming the blade without a rolling machine.

    Fun truck... I use CAD to design the flat part, then I use CAD to make a template with a 1/8" offset to account for the plasma torch radius. I make the template from 1/4" plywood of any kind, and then just use the template as a guide. Voila, all parts nearly exactly the same, no rough edges from my shakey hands... Soak the plywood in water for a few seconds between parts if you have a lot of them to do or it gets burnt... :)

    Wow, I really liked that video. You guys have very good fabricating skills. I have a homemade one. Fixed, no trip springs. 6 feet wide by around 21 in tall. I find it ain't wide enougth for the jeep, barely clears the mirrors. Also could have been made 6 in taller. 1.5 by 2 in angle iron top and bottom and a 1.5 square tu bing in the middle. On a plow like this it's not the heavyness of the materials used but the little triangles that make it strong. Only need to be super strong where it meets the truck. The angle of attack on mine is more like a dozer blade. Don't wanna be a dick but the round tube you used could bend rather easely later on. I also find the scraper blade too tall. Mine is only 2 in, half an in thick. I have rounded rectangular tubing that sticks out of the jeep about 4 in with a top and bottom hole provisions to compensate for the heigth of the vehicle. A mod I would like to do on mine would be add more holes on the tabs (a top and bottom one) on the plow for fine tuning the angle of how the plow sits. Having a good angle makes a big difference on how the plow behaves.

  • @rcclassiccrawlers4368
    @rcclassiccrawlers4368 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I was totally on board with the build until I seen how high up the mold board you were mounting your pivot point. You should’ve mounted that down lower with a stop on it to keep it from tipping back towards your vehicle too much. Also with it lower it will put more force on the lower portion of the plow and cutting edge which is the strongest part of the plow and it will keep the plow from tipping so easily.
