  • For years, the Michigan Central Station has stood as a tattered symbol of decay just outside of Downtown Detroit. Now, the old train station is being brought back to life, and serves as a symbol of renewal in the city. This week on Flashpoint, we’re hearing from leaders from Ford Motor Company, Google, the state and the city on why the renovation of this stretch of Michigan Avenue is much more than symbolic.

Maybe Amtrak should bring the trains back to downtown Detroit

I think they will, they definitely expressed interest in making it a true station again.

I always thought Michigan Central Station would be great for a high-speed rail connection.

I hope they connect Detroit Lansing and Grand Rapids with high speed rail.

There's still a lot of train tracks just behind that building. How about refurbish 2 or 3 of them for passenger trains to start using the building again? Dream bigger....how about a high speed rail (HSR) connection from Detroit to Chicago? Using the renovation of this train station as a way to bring new life to rail again. Ford can have it's thing with new cars, and trains can have their own. The more modes of transportation, the better.

What's going on in Detroit? All I've heard is the Tech Industry and Real Estate Tycoons connected to them are buying up all the cheap land for gentrification. Started going on in 2018, no?

Detroit Become Human is becoming less of a videogame and more of a documentary
This is exciting, I hope detroit becomes a next gen city pretty soon. I agree with the Ford Jr. Innovation does inspire more innovation. A futuristic city would only further inspire workers to do more and better.

Amtrack is building a new midtown station for the Wolverine line. Although, It would be a possible station for a Chicago - Toronto line.

Better off making it a Freight Terminal.
Amtrak just isn't sustainable. Defund the Federal Highway Programs and let the Private Sector Railroads reopen passenger service.

And with the renovation of a pretty old building you probably don’t want ppl to stay too long just in cases of unforeseen maintenance.

And what about all the drug dealers and gangs and racism in that area? Liquor stores on every corner. And a big fan of a football team that has only won one playoff game in 66 years 🤣

@@biancafigueroa9401 Again half the city is run by thugs and drug addicts for decades, I'd like to see 3k police officers hired to winnow the neanderthals out of the city, but this has been a dream for two generations. My whole family had to get out of there before they were killed. My grandparent's house was broken in, my grandmother's car was stolen, this is a dream, as I said I'd like to see how this works

This neighborhood is not what you described, its area that has a lot of potential, and a lot of projects outside this one are already taking shape, with many more coming on line. The pandemic did stop everything, but things are picking back up now. You think of all the decades of decline, and it’s going to take years for progress

    • @m42037

@@kevinakakp9120 Yes it is, nothing I said is false, yes there's some area's in Detroit that are ok, but about 75% of the city is a cesspool of drug dealers, unemployment, poverty, liquor stores on every corner, burned out house's everywhere, gangs it's terrible. Now the Packard plant is being torn down, that Italian guy disappeared, all that area is trash also. I live in Plymouth, I was raised in Detroit as I said. Everyone knows don't be walking around down there at night!!

My Mom was picked to square dance for Henry Ford when she was little at Fairlane Mansion. My Dad was a ball turret gunner in a B-24, built every hour at Willow run. God bless HF, he was a mean, cranky old guy, but he change the world for the better.
