      If it’s so simple why didn’t you write it or any of the other dozens of iconic tracks. It’s not simple as nobody plays it exactly like Keith or Mick Taylor who is a virtuoso or Jones or Wood. I find it easy to play lead pentatonic stuff that the so called shredders play but it’s hard to replicate Richards open G sound on a single coil P90 guitar. It’s never quite right just like these guys showed

    Hey guys,
    Appreciate all the feedback and comments as always!
    With regard to the Ronny wood comments, we basically recreated the sounds from the record, and used Ronny's gear and rig as reference to get somewhere close in sound.
    We also used a LOT of live footage for reference, simply because the recording quality was better.
    Most old stones records are so muffled in sound and generally noisy records, it's hard to hear the true tone of the instruments and rigs.
    Either way, we had fun on this one. Same time next week, for a new episode :-)

    Yeah, that low D ringing on the bottom of Open G tuning kind of spoils the sound - why Keith Richards did completely away with the sixth string altogether! Not so easy for the rest of us with only one or maybe two guitars total, but where there is a will there IS a way. The spirit of Keith's playing is PRICELESS!!

    I don't know the quality of it, but Anderton's stocks a power attenuator. Instead of buying the pedals, they could have gone with the attenuator, ran it between the output on the back of the Fender Deluxe Reverb and the speaker, soaked the power/volume, and cranked it to 11 without blowing up eardrums.

    Bass part:
    ·Bill Wyman
    -Epiphone Allen Woody. Wyman used a short scale semi acoustic, with a big body and humbuckers, like his famous Framus, in the early years. I think this is the best choice because is easy to find it and you can balance the pickups
    -Vox VX50 BA. This amp is the most affordable Vox bass amp to emulate the classic tone of the Stones. Because of the semi acoustic bass, you should set the amp with more treble than mids
    -Pick
    ·Darryl Jones (the actual unofficial bassist)
    -Squier VM Jazz Bass 70s. Darryls plays with Lackland jazz basses with maple neck. He's got a signature model but it would be for a BY busting the bank.
    -Ampeg BA 110 V2. He uses Ampeg with the Rolling Stones
    -Fingers
    ·Charlie Watts
    -He's been playing on Gretsch drums for many years, using a jazz kit. Of course Gretsch Catalina studio (20x14 bass drum, 14x14 floor tom, 12x8 rack tom, 14x5 snare) on mahogany. Meinl cymabls give a warm and pretty sound

    so here's the thing. Ronnie Wood has done jack squat for the stones. his joining the band meant the end of good stones music (goats head soup was aight but some girls is one of the lamest records ever). I mean with the exception of start me up, you guys didn't play any ron wood stuff, so that should indicate that he was the wrong choice of lead guitarist for the video. my suggestion would be to revisit the stones in "by busting the bank" and instead of ron focus on Mick Taylor who was their guitarist during their greatest era (beggers banquet to exile on main street). His blues licks (the leads in gimme shelter, his solo in cant you hear me knockin, and fills in wild horses) are really the lead stones sound. Ron tried to replicate it and keith will deny it to his grave but Mick was the secret ingredient. Love the show btw guys, showing how diverse and important tone can be to a guitarist is a lesson most learn far too late.

      It’s because they don’t know what they’re talking about. Anything that isn’t metal or hard rock and they struggle. They probably don’t even know how many guitarists the Stones have had.

    • @joegarrison5911
      @joegarrison5911 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Some Girls and Tattoo you were recorded during his tenure get real just because he cant rip a solo like Mick Taylor (There's about 10 other guitarists who can) doesn't mean he isnt good in his own way.

    • @caster3283
      @caster3283 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Joe Garrison I agree he’s a good guitarist mate I’m not disputing that. Personally for me, his best work was in the Faces but there are plenty of Stones classics that would be nothing without Ronnie.

    I know this comment is a bit late (like 3 1/2 years late) but I've only just seen this vid. Instead of assuming that the Stones' other guitarist was Ron Wood, you should have asked who the second guitarist was at the time that the songs that you chose as being emblematic of the Stones' sound were released because the only song originally figuring Ron Wood that you chose was Start Me Up which was on 1981's Tattoo You album and that only really became famous because Microsoft paid them $12 million fifteen years later for the rights to use it as the "backing track" to the launch of Windows 95.
    Wood joined the Stones in 1976 after Mick Taylor quit but the band's golden age was arguably bookended by 1967's Their Satanic Majesties Request and 1973's Goat's Head Soup, the three definitive Stones' studio albums being Let It Bleed, Sticky Fingers and Exile on Main Street which between them feature all the tracks that earned them the title of "the greatest rock and roll band in the world" with two exceptions, 1965's (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction and 1967's Jumping Jack Flash both of which, oddly enough, were single only releases.
    Brian Jones was the "founder" of the Rolling Stones but had to settle for being second guitarist because Keef wrote the music to all their songs. When he was sacked because of his drug addiction by Mick Jagger half way through the recording of Let It Bleed in the spring of 1969, Mick Taylor was brought in as his replacement and he is the main second guitarist on that album. In fact if any guitarist other than Keith Richards embodies that classic Stones' sound it is Mick Taylor not Ron Wood because yes he's been a member for the last 44 years but let's face it, for at least 40 of those years the Rolling Stones have been nothing more than their own greatest tribute act. Taylor played a number of different guitars during his Stones years (Strats, SGs, etc.) but the guitar with which he is most associated was the Les Paul.
