      +livelogikal so what you're insinuating is that creating a jig or "tooling up" for a process that needs to be done over and over is useless? Also, you state you could have measured the center of countless boards, what about marking those boards? Maybe you should learn how to make the jig quicker, "in the time it takes to make this", you can't be serious? Run along with your negative self!!! 😂😂😂😂

    • @VCGConstruction

      livelogikal we're all about freedom of speech, but I think it's sad that trolls like yourself have a safe space like TH-cam so you can spew your negative hatred, knocking real content creators like seejanedrill! Why don't you "man up" and post a video of your "custom speaker boxes" 🤣🤣🤣for all of TH-cam to criticize! You won't!

    Leah, Thanks,... always love to see your videos. Maybe an idea for future jig building projects might be for a jig used to drill the screw holes in cabinet doors to insert the handles or pulls.... I see people trying DIY cabinet installs that have the knobs or pulls installed unevenly due to poor measuring. They spent a lot of $$ on the cabinets, installed themselves, but the finished project looks sloppy because the knobs are uneven.

    Looks like a good idea, but surely the moment you start turning the piece of wood away from 90 degrees it will prevent the pencil line from being exactly in the middle, more or less so depending on how far out the pencil protrudes? The test for this would be to run the jig the other way down the wood you have marked and see if it is still marking in exactly the same place or whether it is out.
    Any chance you could test this and show us the results?

    • @RickHenderson
      @RickHenderson 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    If I make one of these I’m going to need to write on it BIG in magic marker, “CENTERING JIG! Don’t throw away!” because if I don’t, I’ll find it at some later date, forget what it is, think it’s just a piece of scrap wood, and I’ll toss it on the firepit. 🙄🤪

  • @orionred2489
    @orionred2489 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Wold it make it safer/more accurate to put the nails in from the other side? That way, if you don't do a good job keeping the drilled holes plumb, the nails would still be where the marks were. You'd have to countersink the opposite side for the pencil too.

    I live in florida and am trying to take care of my moms house. The t11 siding is showing rot and moisture gets in during rainy windy seasons. I think I need an attic vent to let moisture escape. Maybe I got the names of the bolts wrong. I know that hex bolts are the ones with the hexagon top, and I believe carriage bolts are the ones with the smooth, flatter, more refined looking top. But what I was wondering about is why some bolts are threaded all the way along the barrel (or shaft (?) whatever it's called) and others only have maybe five threads at the tip, and the rest of it is smooth. And does it matter in terms of strength of the bolt?

    Hello Leah, great video on how to construct these center finders. You are right, I see these for sale on Amazon and wonder why on Earth someone would pay 6.00 all the way to 15.00 bucks for one of these, when this jig is every bit as good.
    I think you would do an excellent job of some of the other measuring tips like measuring from one side of the board at 0, then taking for instance 8 inches on the ruler and moving it to the other side of the board. At 4 inches it would be dead center. Also the carpenters 3-4-5 method for determining if an area is square. Others have tutorials, but you have a very natural way of teaching that everyone can easily understand. Take care of yourself.

    Hi Leah,
    The pins you made brought to mind something I was puzzling over today. What's the difference between a carriage bolt and a hex bolt and how do you know which one is the right one to use? I had a bag of bolts today all the same size but some carriage and some hex and I was wondering which I should use for the fence I'm building or if it even matters....Just a thought for a possible future video. Thanks for all you do!

    • @seejanedrill

    Leah, I needed to mark the middle down some small pieces of decorative hardwood (spalted Silver Maple) that I want to resaw. I have quite a few pieces and it would have probably taken over an hour to mark them all with a ruler and a pencil. I made the centering jig in about 10 minutes and marking the wood took another 10 minutes. Now, I am the proud owner of some very accurately marked wood, ready to be resawn and a centering jig! Thank you so much. I bought you a few coffees to say thanks. Thanks for such a generous channel. It really means a lot to me.

      I've seen several modifications on this particular jig, like a nail instead of the pencil. I was thinking a set screw for the pencil might help.
