This is the first time I've seen this clip, Didn't know any film of Arnie existed. Me, as a teen growing up, his father, Arthur, was a close personal friend and mentor to me and my brother. He taught us many things about machinist and mechanics as well as life. Took us to several USAC events in the area. Met Arnie several times when he was back in home town Belleville IL. between events. Sadly their all long gone now, miss them.

That right there shows you just how incredibly hard it was to drive these cars.

Nope, he had an engine failure causing your rear wheels to lock up, driving the cars back then wasn't particularly difficult, staying alive with the poor safety measures was difficult.

Wow, those colourful videos give us an amazing insight into how it was back then! Thank you!
Damn, watching those cars go off the track was a totally different experience than today - it was actually scary.

Back then it was a different sport… No electronics aids, no telemetry, fascinating, but very dangerous

Driving these cars in Sims gave me a whole new respect for these guys. I have a hard time even breaking without spinning out into a wall lmao

Brakes issue ... spun to the safer side

So that's what a Cecil looks like. Seems like a half shaft failure turned him off. He had it turned full left but it still went right.

Most tracks today he would have smashed into a wall

In 1968 the tracks were way more dangerous and difficult than today’s

More like a slide than a spin, but ok.
