LAKE BLANCHE & SUNDIAL PEAK: BEST HIKE IN BIG COTTONWOOD CANYON, UTAH’S WASATCH MOUNTAIN RANGE

  • Hiking to Lake Blanche and then summiting Sundial Peak can make for a day full of adventure in Utah's Wasatch Mountain Range. Lake Blanche Trail is one of the most popular hikes in the Salt Lake City area. Lake Blanche is a relatively short hike at just over 3 miles, but your thighs will get a great workout as it is straight up to the lake at 2,700 feet of elevation. There is a good chance moose will be seen on this trail due to the lush vegetation and flowing water. The scramble up to Sundial Peak can be tricky as the approach to the summit is class 3 and 4. Route finding is needed but is fairly easy as Sundial Peak can be seen from the lake. The trailhead is located in Big Cottonwood Canyon near the S curve. Get to the trailhead early, this continually picturesque trail gets crowded quickly and for good reason!

    Coming out to Utah this September for getting photo reference. This trail will be on my must see list for sure. Though I doubt I’ll climb to the top as I imagine it would be unwise to attempt with a camera in tow. Can not wait! Cheers to you guys. 🤙 All the best..

    • @TheMountainMatt
      @TheMountainMatt  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You should have some awesome colors just starting to happen if it’s late enough in September. It’s a popular trail so try to hit it up during the week 👍🏼. There’s a faint trail around the backside of the lake that leads up towards the peak. You should find much more solitude up there and some pretty rad vantage points! I took a GH5 on a mantispod up there so you should be able to get a decent sized tripod up behind the lake, if you really want 😁👍🏼.
