    I do not think NEW Mike Hammer will replace the old Mike Hammer. Somethings cannot be replaced!

    This guy was the Mike Hammer of the Mike Hammer's. He had the tough element but shared the humor with the audience. Darren will always be remembered though as the "Old Man" from "Christmas Story.".

    April 19, 201----Thanks for the video as I didn't know there was a tv series this early. Surprised/shocked to see Darren McGavin in it. As he gave background info on this case, it reminded me when he did The Night Stalker series.

    One of the great "over the top" character actors of all time. If entertainment, not realism, is what you like, he's tops.

      Brother you ain't even kidding. I've been saying that for ever. Ralph meeker ls Mike Hammer. No one has ever played him better, nor even come close. Never cared for Darren McGavin as Hammer, funny thing is he was far better in THE OUTSIDER and far more believable a private investigator. Loved Ralph meeker.

    • @orinanime
      @orinanime 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Mickey Spillane might disagree.
      Meeker played it as scripted, far more disgustingly brutal than the books ever made him. And his relationship with Velda was all wrong.

      Eric Talkington
      Yes, E.T.
      Darren McGavin was one of the most underrated Actors for many years. ( See his impressive Wiki)
      He’s best remembered for the Kiolchak series ; where his irreverent portrayal truly made the series work. and also as the cantankerous dad in the Christmas story movie which is run continuously for 24 hours every Thanksgiving.
      This terrific series was about as tough of a detective show you’d find on network TV back in 1958 .
