I fell in love with Ruth in Harold and Maude. Actually, I fell in love with Maude but that wouldn't have happened if Ruth hadn't brought such love and energy to the role. RIP Ruth.
p.s. Don't forget she was not just an actress, but a writer-- of screen and stage plays. She was part of the group of great writers back in the 30s, she was friends with Alexander Woolcott and the Algonquin Round Table people (Dorothy Parker, and other good writers of the time.)
In every movie that I've seen with her ( Harold and Maud, Wheres Popa, Every Which Way But Loose, Boardwalk, My Bodyguard and Rosemary's Baby ) she was elderly,.. and I've always wonderd what she might've been like as a young gal ? Looks like she'd lived through just about every era of the past century. Thanks alot.
i found two books she wrote-both very good! harold and maude was fimed all over san fransisco, redwood city and daly city- she was originall supposed to live in an apartment, and harold was to have a sports car, but a friend close to made the proper changes to fit her personality better... and thus the movie became great- and she said it was a blast to film it!!!
I just loved her , on her 85Th Birthday I got a call , it was Garson , he said Ruth had fallen and will not go to the Hospital unless I take her,I did , I called her and argued with her, she had class , about two weeks later I saw her dragging her leg , still in curlers and nightgown , she called me a stool Pigeon when I told her I was getting Garson , she was just like my Mother who was lead in Skating Vanities , she never stopped or gave up , I was going to Cal. But I was shot getting gas
You maybe were too young to have known her on the stage but there are plenty of movies that she was in like Rosemary's Baby and Harold and Maude. Or there are some good TV shows that she played in like Taxi and Colombo that you could catch her in.
