Mark whats the name of the thing next to the expansion vessel, its a black gasket with 8 screws going into it, one sits at the top and one underneath (2 pipes feeding the one underneath). If this leaks is it a big job and expensive for a central heating engineer to replace.
Great video Mark easy job... Just remember everyone if changing your own don't forget to drain the water from the heating system

I bought a replacement vessel but it’s 3mm short of the water pipe ?

You took the caseing off -- that was ilegal if your not gas safe registered ! -- its part of the combustion chamber !
Maybe you were not aware, but the boiler he was dismantling was not connected to any services.
