This is absolutely superb, and well narrated. I'll be moving this year and I'm looking at picking up the Flemish single manual afterwards. Videos like these make the prospect of building much less daunting for those of us who aren't master woodworkers. Thanks for sharing. I wish there were more I could watch.
Thank you for this excellently produced video. I'm confident that one day soon I'll build my own instrument -- this video has been a huge confidence boost!
Excess glue squeeze out can stain the wood even when you wipe it off, if you are going for a non paint finish. On the bits that show, around but not in the joint, you can seal the grain with whatever finish you are going to use. e.g. French polish. When this is dry you can glue up the joint. Glue staining can show up unexpectedly when you apply the final finish, if you are not careful with squeeze out. This is a simple solution rarely mentioned. I use Titebond glue and it has lasted 35 years so far without failure.
In 1982 I built an Italian Virginal very similar to this one but was rectangular in shape using parts from Zuchermann. The instrument has a very loud and robust tone. The keys feel springy as the plucking points are somewhat Muselar like (halfway between English & Flemish).
What a wonderful insight into how to build your kits. Did you ever make a video of the rest of the build, or does that come with the kits? The only thing I didn’t understand from this video was why it didn’t seem to be a problem to put the duct tape over joints without cleaning up the glue squeeze-out (especially on the outside of the case). Was that because this case was going to be painted? Looking forward to getting one of your kits as I head towards retirement!
This is relaxing to watch. Sorry it's weird, but I accidentally fell asleep watching it. It's very cool, but do you have installing the keyboard, making keys, etc.?
This kit was originally conceived by Ed Kottick with his written manual only. When I was asked by Ed to provide "stage 1" instructions (customers wanted a stage 1 version of this kit but Ed wasn't sure how it could be done), I decided to do a video instead. I quickly realized that the video would be a success, so I did shoot some but not all of the rest of the building process. I plan to produce those subsequent steps over the next months. In the meantime, I am still working on foreign language translations of the current video. Stay tuned. I am glad that you like it. It was a lot of work!
I can’t believe there is a video for making this. It’s been a dream of mine to make my own instrument but the task seems so daunting
One step at a time
The woodworking is actually pretty simple, just lots and lots of steps

Richard I could never do this. Wow. What a great educational video

Mr Auber does have that Ben Stein voice, doesn't he? 🤣😅
