Man, he probably missed out on a lot of sales because of this, and he really seems sincere in this apology/explanation. I hope he doesn't get hurt in all the fighting that's happening, or after if the russians take over. This situation is so fucked.
Wow 1 hour ago and I clicked this video by accident. Honestly for me it's hard to know what to believe. I do remember hearing that this guy was racist af, but I don't remember actually seeing anything he said/posted. His apology seems honest, but it's a bit weird that he decided to wait so long to post it. I also don't know almost anything about soviet union culture/society so I can't comment on that. We can't know if he's really sorry, or he's just trying to clean his name What I am pretty certain about is that he's probably not doing too well. No doubt the negative pr he brought upon himself hurt sales, and now with the stupid war making things worse for everyone, well he probably wasn't in a great position in the first place.

If memory serves he was in a discord chat with his buddies and they were talking about a guy who apparently didn't like his product or him in general and so he joked about sending anthrax. if you take into account eastern europeans and their very dry, barebones humor and couple that with the fact he definitely didn't send anthrax then it definitely seems like it was just a joke. i'll try and find that pic in the meantime.
@@Creeper99PL He made reference to the fact that the review called the Verum 1's 'poison for the market' due to there low cost per performance and so the creator responded that he would make the Verum 2's 'anthrax' and send them to the reviewer as well, to 'see if he was immune'. The joke is in poor taste and has been weened out of context slightly but I'm no sure it's what I would call a viable threat.

If he was genuine about the redirecting offered help to his country, he would just send the post in second link as email and without bragging about donating. For those wondering why Wade took this video down, it's simple: The guy who made the headphones apparently has some controversial behavior, from threatening a critic with anthrax and apparently was homophobic and racist. Wade/Dank (to placate those who are whining over me using his name) instead unlisted the video before removing it entirely . It's pinned I know, but I also decided to clarify too.
I, for one, am grateful cuz I knew I watched this video but couldn't find it anymore and just as some other comment here I've been thinking it was the Meze's for some time now. Which would be less of a problem if that didn't mean I was attributing Meze with all the awful stuff the comments said the creator of this one did. So thanks, now I can be at peace with the Meze videos of Dankpod because it was just me being wrong about which good quality headphones from a lesser known place were the ones with the questionable (being charitable there) origin.
@@kazumakazuma5814 It's not really usual to see manufacturing from UA to compete in such specific and complex niche. It's not a tank or nuclear reactor , you know.
The other part of why headphones need more power is Sensitivity, because Ohms are only 1 part of the equation. Sensitivity is measured in dB/mW. I know that 70 is really low and insensitive, and something like 100 is more common or so. Also, Audeze is kinda hated as well by a lot of people; their technical detailing is amazing, but the tuning is awful. They always put a huge hole in the upper mids (like around 4k-5k Hz), and boost the lower mids (around 1k Hz) until they sound "honky". Just look at the graphs, you'll see what I mean.
planar headphones tend to have pretty high sensitivity, I can drive my LCD-X just fine with any normal device. I have to say, they dont sound amazing to me. A bit harsh in the mids and thin in the bass. But I got used to it and they have been helping me through music production since, they are my go to tool when I want to listen to something "up close" and hear all the details. Otherwise, they are stupidly heavy and expensive. I dont think I would get worse results with some beyerdynamic headphones at about a fifth the price.
Power is literally just P=U*I, Voltage x Current. And with Ohms law U=R*I (or I=U/R) you can change the first equation to P =R*I² or P=U²/R. And none of these is Sensitivity. If you have headphones with a given Resistance (R) and you want to put out the rated power where they work, you only need to supply the right voltages. Sensitivity itself has nothing to do with the Power and Resistance, possibly just how much power it can output before falling apart.
@@Daniel-dj7fh That is a gross misunderstanding of the relationship between headphone amd amp. Sensitivity tells you how much power the headphones need. Impedance doesnt tell you much at all without also knowing sensitivity. Impedance needs to be within the amps specifications, so the amp can operate linearly and efficiently. Transistor amps are pretty forgiving when it comes to impedance, they only really go quieter with higher impedance. Tube amps however dont do well with low impedance headphones. Ohms law itself doesnt help you here, you need four pole analysis to get useful results.

I thought I did my research but many people have reached out to me about the controversy. I certainly don't support that line of thinking no matter how good the product, we all on this planet together. It's a real shame as I really do love these headphones but there are more important things than material goods. Sorry for not being vigilant everyone." To sum up the controversy, basically this dude, commonly known online as Garupsik, did a lot of batshit crazy and unprofessional things, including: posting a lot of racist stuff, blamed it on an intern, kept doing it, and threatening to send anthrax to someone who gave him a bad review.

I've read the guy's apology, and my experience with friends from former Soviet countries is that they have absolutely no frame of reference to understand America's racist history, and assume it's similar to marginalized groups like the Roma people that they are familiar with, which is backed up by our own racist stereotypes. But these are very different groups if you know more about the history of the groups. I'm native, and frequently deal with people who think that we are extinct, that we were primitive when contacted by Europeans, or a number of other tropes, and most people are receptive to being given additional context and knowledge that changes their entire understanding. And that's great! People should be open to changing their opinions based on things they learn. So I think that Igor's apology is indeed genuine, and his reasoning for why he felt the way he felt seems sincere - if you have no clue whatsoever about Jim Crow or any of the things being done in the past several years to disenfranchise voters of color, then I could see how he would think it's "comical". It's not my place to forgive him, of course, but if this were instead over Standing Rock or the Wet'suwet'en First Nation asserting their treaty rights up in Canada, and with additional information, he realized he was in the wrong, I would 100% believe him based on how he wrote this.
I have read the apology. I have also seen that he has continued to be racist after making the apology and he has since gone on to have a general "death to the west" and "all hail Putin" vibe.

It depends what power the headphones are supposed to run at. with P=U*I or = U²/R or = R*I² (P Power, U Voltage, R Resistance and I Current). You can kinda easily calculate what you need if you have 2 variables whcih are usually the resistance ("impedance") and power.

man i wish i didnt miss (skipped watching due to my feelings on the world at the time) the old video so this made more sense to post... for anyone wondering, the reason these run at so little power is because they are a different technology. it takes a lot more relative power to move a whole magnet with a coil than it is to run a simple electromagnet directly and let it shake the coil (copper waves on the mesh) i’m severely simplifying it and it is incredibly impressive the guys got it down that low, but nonetheless thats the basic reasoning
The Creator of these headphones maybe problematic but then again Apple is problematic. People don't stop buying Apple Products because some people actually committed suicide due to the chemicals being used in the manufacturing process of some of their products. Lots of people still have iphones if one was to trace the history of every product you find shady dark corners in almost every single company out there. Plus the guys apologised and has moved on ideologically. Redemption is a very important human quality. This is the power of the market. It can break down social and racial stereotypes.

@@p020z5 To make a better and cleaner picture I think. It's not a live video recording. he does that off camera and records just audio coming from these ears. Whenever he plays that audio recording, the picture of the correct headphones is displayed. It's funny that Wade recognizes that heaphones look better without all of these stupid wires, given that he one of the remaining popular advocates, for bringing back the ancient headphone jack to the phones.
I'm listening on the 5.1 surround speakers hooked up to my computers sound card and I'd say the LCD2 headphones sound a hell of a lot better than the Ukrainian ones though at three times the cost they probably should sound hella better. Personally I think both are more than I'd spend on a pair of head phones but I don't really use headphones all that much anyway. I'd never want to spend more than around 100 USD for a pair of headphones and that's if I'm wanting a decent sounding bluetooth set to use with my phone or something. I think the gaming headset I bought for my computer was only like 65 and those sound pretty good as well for headphones but at the end of the day you can't beat a full on speaker for sound quality.
I think that the LCD2's sound better somehow, the bass sounds deeper somehow in comparison to the others. But it could be the whole Dac thing boosting the thing.
I listened to the sound demo comparison on my NOLA speakers driven by Bel Canto monoblocks, and the difference between the two was easily discernible. The audeze were clearly better. That being said, it's a $350 headphone from a small business, so just to get in the ballpark is impressive.

Jokes aside tho, in the test he records the audio of the playing headphones, why should he make a video of them if he could also just take a picture of the assembly. It's probably just a picture he made of the headphones on the stand before or after the recording, and I could imagine him not being able to bother plugging the cables in then either.
Dankpods shouldn’t have unlisted this video, sure maybe the guy said some heinous things but regardless his product is the best chance you have of being able to afford something nice. I bought my Verum 1 a year ago and it took three months to arrive. The cable seems pretty cheap but the headphones are fantastic and sound miles better than anything else I own.

It's also worth mentioning that it's usually "you get what you pay for". If comparable headphones are normally 1100 and these are 350 then that means cost cutting. Dankpods already mentioned two methods, but for the rest the time will probably tell. Also the pair the guy shipped to reviewers might be of higher quality, than the pairs he ships to people who actually buy them after they see such positive reviews.. it wouldn't be the first time that has happened.. even huge companies (i think it was samsung) are guilty of that with their ssds for example

The other part of why headphones need more power is Sensitivity, because Ohms are only 1 part of the equation. Sensitivity is measured in dB/mW. I know that 70 is really low and insensitive, and something like 100 is more common or so. Also, Audeze is kinda hated as well by a lot of people; their technical detailing is amazing, but the tuning is awful. They always put a huge hole in the upper mids (like around 4k-5k Hz), and boost the lower mids (around 1k Hz) until they sound "honky". Just look at the graphs, you'll see what I mean.

planar headphones tend to have pretty high sensitivity, I can drive my LCD-X just fine with any normal device.
I have to say, they dont sound amazing to me. A bit harsh in the mids and thin in the bass. But I got used to it and they have been helping me through music production since, they are my go to tool when I want to listen to something "up close" and hear all the details.
Otherwise, they are stupidly heavy and expensive. I dont think I would get worse results with some beyerdynamic headphones at about a fifth the price.

Power is literally just P=U*I, Voltage x Current. And with Ohms law U=R*I (or I=U/R) you can change the first equation to P =R*I² or P=U²/R.
And none of these is Sensitivity. If you have headphones with a given Resistance (R) and you want to put out the rated power where they work, you only need to supply the right voltages.
Sensitivity itself has nothing to do with the Power and Resistance, possibly just how much power it can output before falling apart.
@@Daniel-dj7fh That is a gross misunderstanding of the relationship between headphone amd amp. Sensitivity tells you how much power the headphones need. Impedance doesnt tell you much at all without also knowing sensitivity. Impedance needs to be within the amps specifications, so the amp can operate linearly and efficiently. Transistor amps are pretty forgiving when it comes to impedance, they only really go quieter with higher impedance. Tube amps however dont do well with low impedance headphones.
Ohms law itself doesnt help you here, you need four pole analysis to get useful results.

I've read the guy's apology, and my experience with friends from former Soviet countries is that they have absolutely no frame of reference to understand America's racist history, and assume it's similar to marginalized groups like the Roma people that they are familiar with, which is backed up by our own racist stereotypes. And that's great! People should be open to changing their opinions based on things they learn. So I think that Igor's apology is indeed genuine, and his reasoning for why he felt the way he felt seems sincere - if you have no clue whatsoever about Jim Crow or any of the things being done in the past several years to disenfranchise voters of color, then I could see how he would think it's "comical". It's not my place to forgive him, of course, but if this were instead over Standing Rock or the Wet'suwet'en First Nation asserting their treaty rights up in Canada, and with additional information, he realized he was in the wrong, I would 100% believe him based on how he wrote this.

The resistance change being very stable in most planar headphones makes it so you need a lot of current to get a good volume and sound reproduction
It depends what power the headphones are supposed to run at. with P=U*I or = U²/R or = R*I² (P Power, U Voltage, R Resistance and I Current). You can kinda easily calculate what you need if you have 2 variables whcih are usually the resistance ("impedance") and power.
Hopefully he's safe and keeps making these.

for anyone wondering, the reason these run at so little power is because they are a different technology. it takes a lot more relative power to move a whole magnet with a coil than it is to run a simple electromagnet directly and let it shake the coil (copper waves on the mesh)
i’m severely simplifying it and it is incredibly impressive the guys got it down that low, but nonetheless thats the basic reasoning

The Creator of these headphones maybe problematic but then again Apple is problematic. People don't stop buying Apple Products because some people actually committed suicide due to the chemicals being used in the manufacturing process of some of their products. Lots of people still have iphones if one was to trace the history of every product you find shady dark corners in almost every single company out there. Plus the guys apologised and has moved on ideologically. Redemption is a very important human quality. This is the power of the market. It can break down social and racial stereotypes.
Good take, nowadays not only is there very few small companies making good products but were to quick to cancel someone but also the internet seems to never forgive.

Whenever he plays that audio recording, the picture of the correct headphones is displayed. I'm listening on the 5.1 surround speakers hooked up to my computers sound card and I'd say the LCD2 headphones sound a hell of a lot better than the Ukrainian ones though at three times the cost they probably should sound hella better.
Personally I think both are more than I'd spend on a pair of head phones but I don't really use headphones all that much anyway. I'd never want to spend more than around 100 USD for a pair of headphones and that's if I'm wanting a decent sounding bluetooth set to use with my phone or something. I think the gaming headset I bought for my computer was only like 65 and those sound pretty good as well for headphones but at the end of the day you can't beat a full on speaker for sound quality.

I think that the LCD2's sound better somehow, the bass sounds deeper somehow in comparison to the others. But it could be the whole Dac thing boosting the thing.
I think it's the DAC bossting the LCD-2 too, when I went out to the store and try out the LCD lineup, I remembered it doesn't have that deep bass...
I listened to the sound demo comparison on my NOLA speakers driven by Bel Canto monoblocks, and the difference between the two was easily discernible. The audeze were clearly better. That being said, it's a $350 headphone from a small business, so just to get in the ballpark is impressive.

I bought my Verum 1 a year ago and it took three months to arrive. The cable seems pretty cheap but the headphones are fantastic and sound miles better than anything else I own.

It's also worth mentioning that it's usually "you get what you pay for". If comparable headphones are normally 1100 and these are 350 then that means cost cutting. Dankpods already mentioned two methods, but for the rest the time will probably tell.
Also the pair the guy shipped to reviewers might be of higher quality, than the pairs he ships to people who actually buy them after they see such positive reviews.. it wouldn't be the first time that has happened.. even huge companies (i think it was samsung) are guilty of that with their ssds for example
