Thank you, Barry Zito, for Game 5. It was because of you that the series shifted back to San Francisco. It was because of you that our season didn't end that day. It was because of this performance that you started Game 1 of the World Series. I can never thank you enough. With my birthday the next day, this was one of the best birthday present I could've ever asked for.
Hi Denis. If you get the blu ray box set for 2012, this game is included. With alternate audio :) Listening to Miller and Flemm, Kruk & Kuip is soooo good :) Also...the Cardinals KMOX audio is available, lol. I got drunk and decided to listen to the Cardinals audio while watching this Game 5 :) Cards color man Mike Shannon announced the lineups, and when he got to Barry Zito... "And pitching for the Giants tonight is fireballer Barrrry Zittttooo..heh hehh. It should be a banner day for red bird fans!" Uhh..no, bro. Throughout the game, the Cards announcers couldn't believe it :) It is...awesome :)
I am not a Giants fan, however, just curious, why are you only not tired of watching this? Didn't Vogelsong and Cain both pitched well in game 6 and 7 too! Their performances matter as well!
@andrewliu111 to answer your question.. we were on the brink of elimination here. This pitching performance turned the tables our way and gave us momentum. That season, Zito did not have a great pitching year. Vogey and Cain did. Bochy put a lot of trust in Zito having him pitch this game, and it panned out. Also, the season before, Zito pitched so poorly he was not even included In the playoff roster. That's pretty much the backstory here and what makes this game one of the greatest performances in SF Giants HISTORY.
I still watch this game every once in a while. Seeing the Giants basically shut up these MLB network analysts with this series always brings a smile to my face. 😁
I just love how confidently they predicted the Cardinals would go on to the World Series, even before Game 1 of the NLCS. I would have loved to be in that studio taking bets. I know the GIants are from the West Coast, but really, you shouldn't have written them off so quickly.
Barry would’ve been smacked around in today’s game. The playoff teams in today’s era are much better stronger and quicker. That 85 mph fastball right over the plate would be in the seats
Thank you Zito , this game happened on my birthday and my Step father took us all out to dinner and we had to ask the hostess to turn it on , my step father has since passed away and this game will always remind me of him!
Through all the ups (and especially downs) Barry Zito made sure to make 2012 his year where he was HIM. And the 2012 NLCS Made it clear that Zito was ready for this moment, and his teammates were there to make sure this game counted. What a masterpiece of a story
The best thing about this game is how geeked up that St. Louis crowd was and how they slowly realized that this was not their night. You could feel it through the screen.
Before this happened if you had asked me about the Zito contract you wouldn't heard anything good. Ask me after this and Game 1 of the WS and I have no regrets about it.
It's been 7 years since this EPIC game. Mr. Zito was the Phoenix who rose from the ashes to pitch a game that goes down in Giants history. It puts him up there with greats like Christy Mathewson, Marichal, Gaylord Perry, etc.
1:14:20, I can't figure out for the life of me why the color commentator Tim McCarver thought there was a mix up between the SS and 2B. When Pence hit the grounder, the ball was headed towards the second baseman to Descalso, so he was going to field the grounder if Lynn didn't get it, which forces Kozma to cover second base. I don't know what McCarver was looking at on that play.
When Zito had 2nd/3rd on, no outs, I thought that was it, the Giants are going to be eliminated. Zito had never had a bunt RBI single in his entire career. That bunt single is one of the most amazing plays I've ever seen, just a dagger
This was a Cards heartbreak waiting to happen. Giants the team of destiny - again. I am a Cards fan too, from Stan "The Man" Musial days. But, been a Giants fan since the came to SF in 58.

Agreed. However, Game 3 of the NLDS vs. the Reds, down 2-0 in a best of 5......THAT commenced the greatest postseason run in Giants history imo. Down 2-0 facing the best home team in baseball in THEIR ballpark , down 3-1 against DEFENDING CHAMPS, then sweeping the heavily favorited Detroit Tigers.....never forget.
I guess have to say the turning point of this series for the Giants the Lance Lynn the error when he made that throw which hit off the bag and into centerfield Cardinals never recovered from that which is why they only scored 1 run in the last 3 games of the series
Cardinals had runners at 2nd and 3rd with no one out in the 2nd inning and couldnt score. That was the turnaround. THe Cardinals went on to score a total of 1 run games 5, 6 and 7 thats why they couldnt win it.
not a big zito fan but wtf didn't bochy let him start game 1 of the nlcs!? we woulda not only won game 1 but probably woulda won the pennant by game 5 or 6 when vogelsong (my favorite starter) started!
I would put Reynold's, Karros', and Pierzynski's pregame predictions up there with the folks who thought that "Dewey Defeats Truman" --- Bad predictions.
Said it before and I'll say it again. Barry Zito was a man on a MISSION. On top of that a Bunt for an RBI!?? And another thing. Why not just tell Lynn not to swing at ANYTHING Zito throws and see what happens??
When you have runners at 2nd and 3rd with no one out and you cant score well that sets the tone for a bad sign which is why the Cardinals could never score in this game. In fact they scored a total of 1 run in games 5, 6, and 7.
What's this woulda coulda shoulda? Barry Zito outpitched your precious Verlander, and Panda has always had his number..he did it off him in allstar game earlier
LOL, dude don't try arguing with bigcity. I already proved that he is a bandwagon of the Ravens and the Tigers, as well as the Spurs. His team is clinging to their season to the ATHLETICS hahahahahaha. Omg I actually hope that the A's win but some advice dude, don't take shit from this guy because in reality, he is the real bandwagon.

This is hands down my all time favorite game as a life-long Giants fan. I never get tired watching this. Thanks for the complete game.

I loved this game. Zito saved the Giants season in this game.
Don't forget beating Verlander in Game 1 of WS
There were many things I remember from the giants run from 2010 - 2014 , and this one of the biggest ones . Zito’s performance in game 5 in St. Louis
I just love how confidently they predicted the Cardinals would go on to the World Series, even before Game 1 of the NLCS. I would have loved to be in that studio taking bets. I know the GIants are from the West Coast, but really, you shouldn't have written them off so quickly.
Barry can do what kershaw cant. Win a game in st louis.
*October
Jason Brown basically same thing
Barry would’ve been smacked around in today’s game. The playoff teams in today’s era are much better stronger and quicker. That 85 mph fastball right over the plate would be in the seats
Skank Hunt42 yeah it’s way harder facing today’s hitters than steroid jacked behemoths okay…
TheLocalLt steroid jacked behemoths in 2012? Were you alive?
Thank you Zito , this game happened on my birthday and my Step father took us all out to dinner and we had to ask the hostess to turn it on , my step father has since passed away and this game will always remind me of him!

Yep. Mo' can be felt thru a tv in baseball
"Nothing looks better than a broken bat in slow-mo." Haha, little did he know what kind of a broken bat hit was coming in game 7.
Thanks for that game Barry. You were a MONSTER !.
Zito earned his contract after all.
This start was worth every single penny of that $127M contract.
OMG I remember the RallyZito hashtag like it was yesterday.
Me too 😜
Before this happened if you had asked me about the Zito contract you wouldn't heard anything good. Ask me after this and Game 1 of the WS and I have no regrets about it.

1:22:00 for Zito's amazing bunt.
You, sir, know the reason many flock to this video
What if they said "It's not like the Giants are gonna make a come back again". I would be laughing so hard.
All those guys picking the Cardinals -- how'd that work out, guys? ;-)
I'll always
This was a Cards heartbreak waiting to happen. Giants the team of destiny - again. I am a Cards fan too, from Stan "The Man" Musial days. But, been a Giants fan since the came to SF in 58.
Thank you for the upload.
2:22:24 For a pitcher to the opponents, “you can either overpower, or fool”.
He may not have always been the best Giant, but he’s the commander we turned to when the night was darkest
He was the Giant we needed on that day…#rallyzito

this game will always be the rallyzito game
this was the night the dynasty crystallized
Agreed. However, Game 3 of the NLDS vs. the Reds, down 2-0 in a best of 5......THAT commenced the greatest postseason run in Giants history imo. This year was the greatest postseason run ever I agree with you. Thinking of this team brings so many happy memories
I still say the NLCS MVP of 2012 Should have been Ryan Vogelsong for his game 2 and Game 6 Wins
Good argument
1:45:58 Pence's famous catch
Giants for life
Lance Lynn gets the game MVP! The double play ball in the 2nd , then the brain fart in the 4th. Way to take the crowd out of the game.
I guess have to say the turning point of this series for the Giants the Lance Lynn the error when he made that throw which hit off the bag and into centerfield Cardinals never recovered from that which is why they only scored 1 run in the last 3 games of the series
that's so dumb. What team gives up off of one bad play lol
Haters gonna hate, Giants just win rings.
BIG Z!!!! Zito was the man in 2012. 2012 made up for all his terrible past years with the Giants.
0:55 HAHAHAHAH "possible but not probable", i just wanna see her face in the end of game 7 xD
I think the 2nd and 3rd no out situation for the Cardinals and they cant score was what did them in
good game

FINESSE!!!!!!
#rallyzito
3 in 5 years = Dynasty
St Louis players told the media before the game they didn't want to go back to SF because they knew...
"oh fuck me" @ 1:46:30 lol
1:22:09
2:20:40 why is that not a strike? Umpire human error is too much a factor in baseball.
This is soooo funny how they just assumed the Cardinals would go to the World Series, lol
We had the Cards right where we wanted them..up 2 and overconfident..lol
mlb always counting my giants out. the bias against san fran is always there..nobody else has won 3 in 5 so all the experts can swallow
Said it before and I'll say it again. Barry Zito was a man on a MISSION. On top of that a Bunt for an RBI!?? And another thing. Why not just tell Lynn not to swing at ANYTHING Zito throws and see what happens??
Barry (bleeping) Zito...

Oh my god the tweets are just as hilarious as the comments here. 2:24:18
I was mad as fuck after game 4.
Giants gave up Zach Wheeler for Carlos Beltran and he left and lost out on 2 rings..
If Cardinals didn’t blow that 3-1 lead Tigers could have beat them in the WS. But a week off slowed them down
What's this woulda coulda shoulda? Barry Zito outpitched your precious Verlander, and Panda has always had his number..he did it off him in allstar game earlier
Giants are a playoff team no doubt. We'll be back next year
No, they won't
Cardinals blew a 3-1 lead
You jelly?
BARRY FUCKING ZITO

It's ok. I'm glad to witness not just one world championship but two in my life time. Not many true fans get to see that :) cheers
I hope the A's win too. That homerun changed the whole game tonight. As for Bigcity I could care less about that guy. Haters will be haters.
I'm not embarrassed at all. It just wasn't our year. And you say we went quiet? I don't think so. 240 game sell out streak even during a losing year.
Giants reached 537 straight i think..lol
Thanks for that game Barry. You were a MONSTER !.
