      Hi Roger! Chionoecetes bairdi and C. opilio are the two species of Tanner crab harvested in Alaska. We are harvesting bairdi which are the larger cousin of opilio or "opies" often seen on DC. Here is a link to ADFG that tells more about the two species, range, size and management. www.adfg.alaska.gov/index.cfm?adfg=tannercrab.main
      Thanks for joining us and we will see you again soon!

    I really like your voice over comments Matt. One question: Do you have an idea of how much time savings per pot when using the modified pot landing procedure ? And what advantage does those time savings bring to your operation. My take is that you saving on body wear and tear, and that you can haul more of your day time sets. Just how much more ? Nice to find those efficiencies.

    • @EISAlaska
      @EISAlaska  2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Thank you, Kenneth. I'd say at least 2-3 minutes per pot. It's a lot easier on our bodies not bending over grabbing hand fulls of crab out of the pot. We were hauling about the same as last season, but could definitely feel that I was less exhausted at the end of the day.

    PS: I remember Charlie White of Scotty fame from Victoria, BC was one of the first to do underwater fishing and crabpots and was very popular back when the technology was just starting out in the late eighties early nineties. Drew quite a crowd and was very entertaining. I could never wait for his next video to come out. And that was with poor quality equipment in the beginning.

    In SouthEast we fish 70 to 180. We run 24/7 with 5 guys til it gets slow usually day 2-3 then we go sleep rotations. I’ll be honest I thought you would get more snarls throwing the line like that. We took all the knots on our mains out and spliced them to keep snarls down. Heard the price is going to be garbage this year good luck out there
