Built a house here about 2 years ago. Bit of a culture shock after living in D/FW for over 50 years. Not being in a traffic jam everywhere you go is nice. You missed 2 of the most things about Durant…..the roads are pathetic and the most common business in town are weed shops. From 49th st. To 1st st. Via hwy 70, there are (at last count) 16 “dispensary’s”. On ONE 3 mile stretch of road. No wonder nothing gets done, everyone is too busy getting their buzz on! 😁
@@geraldpage4401 roads have sucked most of the time I’ve lived here and they don’t seem to get much better. And the weed shops are a relatively new thing that didn’t exist when I created this video. I agree with you that they are an eyesore due to their prevalence, and to have the number of them we have seems unnecessary. However, the purpose of my video is to highlight the good things I like about Durant and to use the video to promote my drone photography company. Just like every place that exists on earth, Durant has its good people, its bad people, its good points, and its bad points. I choose to focus on the good.
Thanks for reviving old memories. I left Durant back in '79. Glad to see some thingshaven't changed. Recognized a lot here and there. The old High School is now the middle school. I remember the year they built that "rocket" at the 10th st. park (I think it was the same year Neil and Buzz went for a stroll on the moon!). Nice fly-over the FirstBaptist church where we held our Boy Scout meetings every Monday (Troop 618).Couldn't recognize the school in the final scenes but I believe it was Northwest Heights. The city pool was built in the summer between my 3rd and 4th grade (Robert E. Leeelementary). I guess the only thing I was sorry to see was that Big Peanut marker.Should've been torn down the day after it was put up. If you lived in Durant during thattime you'll know what I mean. In the city's council's efforts to put Durant "on the map"all they managed to do was make a laughing stock of the whole town. But that's ancienthistory now and I'm sure all the old wounds have healed. Glad to see that the town is growing and thriving. I miss Lake Texoma. I surely do (gotta say though I don't miss the hay fever allergy attacks I suffered there) . Many fond memories of that place. If you'reever in the neighborhood, stop in and see my old friend Wade. He runs "The BrandingIron". It's over there in the Briarwood shopping center on Main street.
Thanks so much for watching and for sharing your memories of Durant! I didn’t grow up here but have lived here over 20 years and the area sure has grown. I always wondered about the peanut but always thought that it needed to be in a Durant video. I always thought it was kinda funny - I didn’t know it was a big embarrassment for the town. Feel free to subscribe and thanks again for the comment!
Yes but the town has gone down hill, so many crimes everyday, the loss of the children we had, and the amount of drugs that are happening and now theres someone in bryan county who's kidnapping girls and selling them in texas, durant (bryan county also) isnt safe anymore i plan on moving out of here when im 17
Every town has a cemetery and doesn’t necessarily make Durant unique. Plus it didn’t seem to me like something that should be in a video like this. Thanks for watching!

Good video!
Thank you! You’ve got some pretty sweet videos yourself! That was some good piloting on the train video.
Incredible footage
Thank you!
Nice work.
Thank you!
I’m from Durant!
Thanks for the comment and thanks for watching!
The world’s largest peanut. Didn’t see that.
Scott Faudree it’s a dandy; you’re definitely missing a national treasure!
It's not the world's largest, but it's close
You forgot the cemetery
