      Red Rooster, I know right? We had glass jars we had to dump the milk in the line. Plus all the other maintenance that this new system already does automatically. Oh and we only milked 8 at a time...not 24 lol.

    Hey buddy, love all your video;s, when i was a boy aged 12ish i used to work weekends on a small farm and i would do the milking morning and afternoon here in yorkshire England, we only had about 20 cows and used the old simplex machines, i absolutely love the work, the smell of cow barns will bring tears to my eye's even today 60 years later, its a love that will never leave you, we need to fill the world with guys like you it would make a beautiful world even better.

      That's because most would be "employers" dismiss *farmer's backgrounds* 🤷‍♀️even if as a summer job, farm worker lends a WHOLE NEW PERSPECTIVE ON WORK! Most employers just don't seem to see, or recognize that. To their own detriment. They're unlikely to find employees who can problem solve on the fly better than anyone who grew up on a farm.

    Great video and an exceptionally clean well run dairy farm. Two quick suggestions from an Irish dairy farmer: remove the net wrap from any straw or hay bales before putting them through the shredder, consider group penning the calves once they learn how to drink, you can use milk feeders with multiple teats, this helps to reduce the workload involved with individual penning. Otherwise this is a top class operation and I wish you well with your dairy farming.

    • @saskdutchkid
      @saskdutchkid  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! That’s the plan! We can pull the panels out that separate the calves after their weened. We also have a milk taxi that we use to deliver the milk which makes things very efficient!!

    You are doing a mighty job with the vlogs. The content is very interesting and available to a wide audience. Your technical skills have progressed very quickly.
    Your dairy setup is superb. Real cutting edge technology. Safety, health and animal welfare are prioritised. Love the baby calves but -even as a beef farmers daughter=I find it hard that they are unable to cuddle up together and play.

    • @saskdutchkid
      @saskdutchkid  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you very much! We do our best! The reason to keep the calves apart for the first two months is so that the calves don't have to compete for their food. There's also some bio security elements! Their all given an equal chance to drink as much milk as they want, smaller weaker calves wouldn't grow as quickly otherwise.

    I like your operation. Sure is different than ours in 1955. We had 240 head, most milked twice a day. Long days, long nights. I'm surprised you separate the calves individually and don't keep them in a common pen. Thanks for the videos. Jon Van Veldthuijsen, Dutch Sanitary Dairy, Venice CA, so many decades ago. Kid, your drone shots look like a winter miniature display for an minature train.
    Great work and you operate an well maintained top facility.
    I acknowlegde this every time i visit the netherlands, dutch farmers like it well layout, and keep their stuff/facilitys/equipment very clean.
    At the moment there is an massive uproar amongst german farmers, they blocked Berlin with 8600 tractors yesterday in a Demo.
    Dairy farmers get a bad price of 35 Euro Cents /0,50$ Can$/ per liter, or for our imperial challenged US friends 1,45US$/Gallon at the moment.
    So they suffer pretty badly at the moment.

    • @saskdutchkid
      @saskdutchkid  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the compliment! I love seeing the protest in Holland! I wasn't aware that there were also protests occurring in Germany! Its good to see the farmers standing up for their rights! The farmers out there are constantly being put under more and more restrictions and regulations and its not fair!

    I have seen other channels where the calfs would have free run of an entire side with no partitions...they play and horse around and have 24 hour access to milk. I am sure you have a good reason for partitioning them off just wondering what that is? Well done, you guys have spent some serious $$$$$$$!! Take care and keep up the hard work.

    • @drdat7995
      @drdat7995 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      at first you need calfs alone because they can get infected real fast and with more calfs its easier to get everything sick and a machine that gives milk 24 hours a day is expensive

      Thank you for talking about the plastic wrap I was just wondering how it could responsibly be recycled, there’s far to much plastic waist on the planet already, I wish we would go back to natural hemp twine for bailing. Our elders didn’t pollute like modern people do without the first thought of its impact. I hope we all leave this planet better not worse than we found it, talking about it like you do is a great first step.

    Ive never been a fan of large round bales for a lot of reasons. I like the new large square balers. Bales stack way nicer. Cut a few twines and your good to go. Biggest down side the balers are extremely expensive.

    Hey your dairy farm is amazing. I have a small question and im not a farmer in anyway so may be a silly question but in a previous video you showed that u pasteurise the milk for the calf's and i wondered why this is? Is it for infection control or something else?

    • @saskdutchkid
      @saskdutchkid  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      When managed correctly, pasteurized milk is a calf feeding option. The main advantages are utilization of non-saleable milk and reduced disease transmission resulting in improved calf health and growth rates compared to calves consuming raw waste milk
