I judged livestock and dairy in high school. I watch some other dairy channels, and one thing I notice right away about your herd is that they move a lot more freely than most. It speaks good things about the way you care for your herd, and the genetics you foster. Nicely done.

I live in the sand and when we built our house the guy that dug our basement did it really cheap in trade for taking most of the sand!! It was clean pure sand and he sold it for cow bedding!! It helped us because it was more than we could've gotten rid of!!

The sand might be comfy but the pro for Jan's bed is he's in it. That said, the girls really must be happy to come back to their beds cleaned and fluffed up. They all seem to be so relaxed . The cleaning in the outdoor pens is just plain consideration for the comfort and well being of the animals. What more could you ask? Do cows all start to cycle at the same time because they are close together most of the time? Very enjoyable video SDK. Peace.

They have a pit somewhere behind the barn, you can see it in a few videos, when they fill up the sand room next to the barn : ) That's pure luxury for a dairy farm, sand much cleaner than straw!

Can you speak to who takes care of your hoof trimming and care - and how the sand has a benefit for the hooves as well.
My guess is that you could and would not mind sleeping in those comfy cow beds. Yeah, I always watch to the end, I really like how you do your videos and editing, the beginning of this one was great with the music and such. you are very detailed and yet easy to understand how you explain things. It's much appreciated from a nonfarmer perspective to get a better understanding of how it all works, of course, we only see snippets of everything in a full daily routine. Thank you

the placenta is what attaches the umbilical to the uterus. It's an organ full of veins and is what enables nutrients from the mom to flow into the baby. ;-) Loved the video !
As always , I like to watch your videos. Maybe it's because I milked cows every morning & night starting when I was in first grade until I graduated from high school. The discipline of that took me a long way in life. I was a sales rep for a large company with 200 plus salespeople and I was able to be in the top 3 salesman for years. Now that I'm 73 years old I can watch someone else do the work.
