- Why does Yunli feel like a worse standard 5-star. I genuinely would question if Clara is the more premium unit if I only had 10 minutes to test each of them. I can see a few areas Yunli may shine, but for now, she is a major skip

I get what you're saying. Idk, seems like Mtashed was expecting an active manual parry system, which doesn't make sense since the game is turn based, and not every character has to be "game breaking"
It feels good when I manage to do it just before they attack me (sometimes they do something else instead of attacking so the ult is wasted)

Although she is very similar to Clara, one big difference is that Yunli actually has a TAUNT, as a damage unit, that can protect other members of your team from being killed. Afterward she can use her skill and heal up (assuming you aren't bringing a shielder. Clara's ultimate is similar in that it "greatly increases the chances of being attacked by enemies for 2 turns", but it isn't a guarantee and she also doesn't have any sort of sustain other than reduced damage. Yunli is very much a true tank/dps/self-healer all in one.
Plus, Yunli's FuA always hits 3 targets while Clara's is only during her ultimate. She really do be Clara 2.0

They don't do most characters any favors in the trials, especially in the ones where you only get 3 characters (like seriously wtf is up that about, we only play with 3 characters for the first 15 minutes of the damn game)

Tbh, I have mixed feelings about her. I do think her kit is too similar to Clara, even if she does bigger numbers, her kit isn't unique enough. On the other hand, I really like her design, she's really cute and there have been some times when I wish I could bring Clara on the other team too. I guess now that I got her I can do that, haha.
She has self heal high crit damage counters are follow up etc what more you want plus she does synergize with jade etc.

Having to time her ult properly is already nice to me since it involves actually knowing what the enemy is gonna do beforehand so it's not as braindead as firefly

Clara can do the healing with Something irreplaceable too 🤔 so she's great, but all her kit sounds indeed like a non standard version of Clara. Don't fix it if isn't broken, I guess, but I got her for her character design and background, not by being excited for what she brings to the table

@@Enigma-yg7sq Because she does WAY more damage and has a dedicated relic set which makes her even more powerful. She's almost on par with Firefly, whereas Clara at best is still below Jingliu.
Yunli is a more interactive Clara, while fixing every issues Clara faced. A lot of Physical weak enemies have a dead turn (not attacking) or just don't attack at all (Marastruck, Exploding Bug, new DoT enemy & most likely all upcoming DoT enemies).
She will attack even if the enemy doesn't attack, and there's a soft pity every other Ult so you will still get the Enhanced Parry, unlike Clara who just won't attack at all.
The main downside with Yunli is that she is not "auto-compatible" since the AI will just spam her Ult. She also has less chance to be attacked if you don't have her Signature LC (even with Huohuo & Tingyun, you won't have 100% Ult uptime). Maybe that will change once we get a 3rd energy battery in the game.
But because you need to pay attention to the game for her ult, I find it fun to play her. Other dps that everyone like (let's say Acheron and Firefly) you can not even look at your screen, you don't play for the game anymore
@@echolb2156 that's definitely one of the reasons i pulled for her- she actually forces you to pay attention to what's happening on the action bar, know what enemies are gonna do, and plan your ults accordingly. i messed up several times during my first run with her on MOC 12 node 2 and ended up Slashing a few times and even wasting a Cull when i could've just let her normal counter finish the first phase. like don't get me wrong, unga bunga is fun too, but it's so rewarding redoing those fights and getting the timing down

I picked clara for my 300 pulls and I don't think she's beating yunli at anything. Clara was always a passive character while yunli requires you to play actively.

I think making her physical was a mistake. At least if she was a different elements you could justify it but they’re just way too similar which is a shame because I actually think she’s really fun to play
Yeah should make her quantum . We only have Xueyi as destruction but she is 4 star anyway and we know how Hoyo treat 4 star DPS in this game . They also have different play style . So it will be totally fine .

ngl out of the bit that i've played her she is a lot of fun. Because of the way her parry works it's a character you cannot auto so honestly it was pretty satisfying using my knowledge of enemy patterns to really optimize my damage. She also does not feel like clara 1.2 she does a lot of damage and feels unique, at least for me
People just don't know how read her kit full build or jumping hate bandwagon etc. they mad cringe they gonna complain they miss banner later
@@ericx6969 i think part of it is reasoning their way into not pulling her, esp coming off of firefly and ruan mei not too long ago and feixiao next patch. using her vs clara is like night and day- she's super fun to use and having to pay attention to what's happening on the action bar, plan several turns ahead, and then getting the timings down is super rewarding

Point being, why need to be sweaty but not reaching the same damage output as the easy to build f2p friendly team as the top 2 apex dps now. Yunli pullers are manual players. People’s preferences are varied; Meta players, auto/manual players, waifu lovers, dot users, fua users, and those who do spend money to get every units in the game.

not once did i judge players who aren't pulling her just cuz they don't like her playstyle. i also never said saving was the only reason so many are skipping- but when i see people across every platform saying things like, "okay, im glad i can skip her. i'll just save for [insert character]," after playing through the story and not liking her as a character, it's evident to me that a lot more people want her, but aren't pulling because x y z, with needing to save 100% being a reason

People’s preferences are varied, others if not most casual players play on auto and they like seeing big numbers appearing on the screen and their not so invested dps being a killing machine. Hence meta and tier lists exist - giving guides, advised not having obligations to be followed. Different playstyles and simps contributes to that particular saving up behaviour you showcased to make up a good team of their own.
“Play who you want, who you simped, none can judge your fun, it’s your game”. For you specifically, I’ll add “play how you want”.

Mtashed is right.Counter dps like Yunli has 1 huge disadvantage. That is the vine cup elite who only infilct DOTs without attacking Yunli and there's one in second half in current MOC12
You can Intuit slash into cull even though enemies won't attack. Yeah it's a slight dmg loss but Clara needs to be hit to parry unlike yunli.
Yeah and to make matter worse Hoyo typically places them in the physicial weakness cycles, the ones where youd expect to use Clara or now Yunli..

Yunli is basically a Clara powercreep. She can sustain herself and taunt, which is unique as a damage dealer. You can be flexible with the team comps which is already better than Clara. However, you can also pair them together with Robin which is amazing.
Yeah i kinda agree. She and Clara fill the same niche and while i think she's stronger than Clara, is it really needed to spend 80~ish pull for her? No not really. Unless you like her, pull, if you dont, there's very little reason to go for her

It baffles me that people are saying that she's mid or whatever because she requires to be attacked to use her enhanced ultimate, which isn't true at all if you guys read the kit.
ESPECIALLY with her LC. I'm not saying everyone has it or whatever, but according to calculating from other content creators and prydwen (a site that most use), she absolutely demolishes and would be sitting on the top two tiers across all game modes.
She does incredible amounts of damage almost every turn, borderline FF and Acheron, and that's without heavily relying on a gimmick such as break or debufg stacking. Yunli doesn't even need to be hit to output absurd amounts of damage.
This take from Mtash is probably the worst I've seen. Nothing against him, but in his own words (2:06) he didn't even do the calculations and everything is going off of "vibes" (his own words).

To single Yunli out is strange. She's just the next dps on around the same level as any other current dps. Get any 2 of them and you're probably fine.
I'd agree with "Yunli is a skippable character", but " *most* skippable character" nah. Literally just had a Jade banner. Then there's Argenti. And Jingyuan..

Again strange, I can't relate to "playstyle" differences when you're on auto .. you're watching, not playing. It either looks/sounds cool or doesn't. Basically 100% subjective.
When you're *actually* playing, she at least has something to do by having to time parries, meaning you have to know when enemies actually attack on their turn vs. buff or summon.
That is about the same level of interactivity as any character in the game, minus those who barely even have that .. *cough* Firefly *cough* Argenti *cough* almost every support.

Oh here we go again with the JY slander. We get it, JY has most of his DMG backloaded because of the LL mechanic but man, you only need to invest as much as for any other DPS to make him work or be viable. This keeps happening, and people just don't seem to get it, they only focus on the fact that most of his DMG is backloaded, which means he's the most "skippable" character somehow.
This is not specifically targeted at you, I just want to say this to all of the people who just keep saying things like this but just don't seem to get it.

She's kinda not powercreeping because it's understandable she will be stronger that standard banner 5* . PowerCreeping should be applied to Limited once .... Or when new 4 star does better job then 5*

I think the damage calcs have her matching E6 Clara. One way to make her gameplay pretty fun is to go no sustains relying just on Yunli tanking.

In practice yunli clears significantly better due to being far more proactive and her damage being aoe as opposed to blast on ult

Acheron needs her high speed debuffers, firefly needs her husband, a hoe she hates, and one of the sexiest men in hsr at e6... which I have all of... What does yunli need? One lynx and if you have her light cone literally no one. Since thats the case she can use the best supports in the game while ach and fly can use their supports aswell. Shes a perfect answer to always having someone for the other side to all modes.
About missing the ultimate, something very cool that was added to the ps5 version of the game is you can pause the game at pretty much any time, by just clicking the L2 button. This makes ultimates so much less stressful to use.
It's also very cool to just look at animations, if we could hide the HUD it would be amazing for screenshots
You can do this in PC too, if you play with a controller.

yunli is the most fun i had in a long time in hsr in terms of gameplay.
yes its press ult when you get attacked and that might sound simple, but you actually have to learn the enemys. some elites dont attack, some are very unconsistend and some attack 2 times.
managing energy on yunli with huo huo and tingyun is not spawm energy. there is like the double ult combo with an enemy that attacks 2 times and you still want to have the buffs and dont want to overcap for example.
just saying that firefly and acheron gameplay is skill and ult spawming and so pretty boring when it comes to gameplay, but i guess its good for low time invest and auto play.

I thought Yunli would feel worse in autobattle, and sure she can, but her major trace kind of allows you to auto battle her for calyxes and not feel all that bad.
She becomes easier to build as well. +100% Crit Damage on her ult counter? Sign me up with a crit rate body piece.
Plays well with a lot of supports, too. Tingyun, Robin, even Sparkle.
Hypercarry, tank for the squad, heals herself. There's nothing NOT to love about her except she's a kid.

Its also crazy that she has one of the most diverse ( diverse as in different because you actually have to pay attention to when you use your ult) gameplay mechanics in the game.

Yunli is fine for newer players who need more DPS characters. But its a different style of play, so its not for everyone. If someone already has a Clara, little to no reason to pull on her. A veteran account with varied high quality DPS characters? Easy skip. But newer players who need more DPS (or people who like her style of play), yeah go for it. She is fine. Obviously not Acheron levels, but she is fine

The thing with her is that you can comfortably run a team without a sustain and she can also act as pseudo-sustain for fast clears. That's pretty much it, not a must pull character, but she has some uses

Shes not really the same as clara like people think. A huge part is countering right before enemies attack, which is a really big playstyle. The non ult counters don’t do much at all compared to the ult counters
For us may be. But for new players she is crazy good. She works well in all game modes. And she does really good damage, she gives herself a lot of stats for free a d her teams are really f2p. I understand not liking counter gameplay, but many people love it.
After getting FF, pulling for traditional dps is not the same anymore. Crit farming is a pain
farming speed, break is just as bad or worse on her relic set, no doubt hoyo have the odds turned way down
@@joshfullbright7678 crit chars have to roll for like 4 different stats while be chars need 2 and they are usually extremely low floor investment to actually work properly, trust me, acheron took like a whole 2 weeks to build. Firefly and boothill took one day and they were instantly on moc/apoc shadow
@@joshfullbright7678 you cannot convince me that rolling SPD and BE is hard when the only thing you need is to have as much as possible. You cant do that with crit since you need to balance both crit rate and crit dmg in order for it to work
@@joshfullbright7678 crit requires you to farm at LEAST 3 different stats of CR, CD, and ATK/HP depending on which character, AND SPEED like with just about any character; the fact that all BE characters only ever need BE and speed makes them much easier to build
and that's not even going into the pain of rolling and/or balancing crit/atk/speed ratios
sure BE DPSes need more support investment for best value, but support investment remains worthwhile far longer than any DPS investment, making the time investment much more valuable for BE DPSes than crit DPSes who either get powercrept, or their artifacts are too niche to be interchangable to a newer DPS

Counter-attackers damage output scales on the enemies' rate of fire. Therefore, in a scenario where enemies are way faster than your characters, counter-attackers are better than proactive units.
@alexandrem798 ok, let's say for example there's all of fast squishy units attacking yunli and she counters and then kill all said squishy. She just lost all her supposive edge against proactive dps. And sure she can heal herself but actually who cares. Your gonna run a sustain unit anyway so what does it matter?
the issue here is that player's lacking a core member to pair with her, having her alone should be fine in a decent team but with a busted team which contain
Robin - Yunli - Aventurine - Tingyun (or another follow-up character) then yunli damage are sky rocket ma mate, right now i can see Yunli being the strongest follow-up character in the game and she proc follow-up so often is insane for me
Yunli is actually a lot stronger than she seems. She has gotten me further in MOC than most characters I have. Since she can technically attack multiple times a turn her dmg output is massive.

Got her e0s1 hitting some juicy damage and cleared MOC quite easily she’s good in PF as well I like the counter playstyle and she does good damage so I really enjoy it

E0S1 Yunli is better then a E6 Clara. Though yes the Trial Yunli is absolute crap. She has a funner Counter Playstyle IMO then Clara. (Unless you prefer Auto), She's like Between Boothill (Boothill's Damage wildly scales with the amount of Toughness/HP on the enemy and Acheron/Firefly. Go ahead and use Clara though while I'll enjoy my Yunli.

Yunli is one of the better Destruction DPS becuz she doesn't specialise in either Abyss / Pure Fiction but that she WORKS DECENTLY in both

Finally able to fully clear moc with her! Argenti has those annoying shields and her aoe damage destroys all of them. Every time she gets hit, she does another attack. Place her next to tingyun and she'll be attacked for sure.
Even though her Parry is unique, I felt EXACTLY the same way after doing her test run.
I was like " this character will get boring, real fast."
her design is adorable and I was looking forward to pulling her, but her gameplay feels somewhat lacking

my biggest issue with clara has always been the inconsistency of her counters without her ult, even with enhanced targeting from linx's or march 7th's skills, it's still very unreliable, and it's always annoyed me that clara only has a pseudo-taunt as opposed to a real taunt
yunli seems to basically solve all those issues, but has the downside of poor type coverage in comparison to clara; if we've now got two physical-FUA-counter characters, with one being more "F2P friendly" from being an option from losing 50/50 it makes it very hard to say yunli is worth getting, besides someone who doesn't already have clara and wants that coverage of physical-FUA-counter
if they simply made her a different element, I would 100% vouch for her viability because she's essentially just an enhanced clara; but the fact that she's basically just an enhanced clara same-element-and-all, it makes her value go down for anyone who already has clara
unlike a support, you're almost NEVER gonna want two "clara"s for both teams of combat; whereas someone like ruan mei, having a second support that can increase WBE will be VERY useful for just about any and all teams on top of other supportive features they'd have
Ngl, Tingyun and Huohuo fix the inconsistency somewhat since they can give energy to Clara and since Clara's ultimate costs 110 energy, getting it back is pretty easy.
Huo Huo is just a better pull imho especially if you need a good sustain/buffer. I play multiple accounts so I have a lot of different teams built and I always wished I'd pulled her on my main. Not missing my chance now xD
For now I got her on Clara's light cone, and she does pretty well for me in Memory Of Chaos and even this Apocalyptic Shadow. But you pretty much need to run her with both Tingyun and Huohuo for energy since she plays around her ult which is the main source of her damage. This trial was actually a bad way of showcasing what she can really do.
Yunli taunt is awesome and she pairs really well with hunt march 7th
Wasn't going to pull on her banner, but I had 11 pulls and said screw it and pulled anyway. Got 1st copy on the 5th pull and a 2nd copy on the 11th pull.
Anyone else find it crazy that we take game advice and character advice from people who really only have the advantage of not worrying money wise to build the best characters (get em for free or covered by sponsor or video money at least) and get early access to characters which means a head start…. But nether of these reasons have anything to do with a Content creator’s actually credibility in playing the game …. Granted hoyos gacha system in general can be to blame but this can vary game to game (like I think genshin has a actually pretty high skill ceiling that not even the devs have really grasped yet , it’s base parts are all there minus some balance issues that could be patched , Honkai I don’t think as much but it def still has a ceiling and most creators are just not that good at this game I’m sorry yeah there not bad but like I constantly wonder why certain people even get views when they offer basically there opinions and not even fully explained, there are some out there who actually do put in the work and show they have a deep understanding of the game and run numbers and play test there ideas but man I feel like the community bar of quality is so low at times

Theory crafting here (note that I don't have Clara), in a line up with her next to Adventurine and Robin, if she taunts an AOE hit, all the characters get hit like they want to: adventurine for shield stacks, Robin for energy, Yunli for dmg. And if your other member is Tingyun, maybe the Tingyun won't get attacked so often as she seems to be cursed to :P
But in terms of the fun factor, it usually resides in the character animations for me and her ult animations just aren't hittin' right. I like her counter attack and skill animation as she throws the Berserk/Cloud sword like a boomberang, but her closeup animations feel too slow for me to get any rush.
In terms of playstyle, I used to play Epic 7 a lot and one of their characters called Abyssal Yufine was fun af for me. Whenever she countered, everyone's health was just deleted and it was satisfying to see. Plus, you didn't need to roll for speed with her, which is a nice headache to avoid. Same similarities.
I'm rolling on her just so I can get enough to have Tingyun from the monthly rotation in the store. If I get Yunli early, I won't mind it. If I don't get her, I'll skip and wait for Clara to come home.

I did get her and I can say that she does test your game knowledge and patience.
I think the rewarding part about her is knowing when to use counter and on which enemy you want to use it against.
Another thing is knowing to use her ult as a good follow up skill in cases where you just want quick damage, not to mention that with het A1 she can make her second slash ult into the cull ult which is pretty big. I am aiming to get her E1 because of how good it is if you manage to time her ult correctly.

One thing I like about Yunli is that her ultimate actually counts as ultimate DMG, Clara's ultimate does not. But I'm skipping anyway - already have E1 Clara and I want the E2.

Clara and Yunli is so fast and amazing. also Yunli does 50% increase even if Clara has e1 or e6 it just you aren't build charaters for fun you build them to be sweat. Most user just want. look gameplay just matter about opinions and that all and also to all 30% and it just opinion on gameplay
Had no intention to get her but the 5 free pulls we get from the monthly reset from the shard shop I somehow got her in 2 pulls and her LC the next pull with no pity build up at all. Never could I have that luck with a character I really want. So I build her up a little and to be honest she's unreal even with 5/10 skills she's hitting over 400k in MOC 12. She doesn't die. I paired her with Robin/jade/ HuoHuo and the team just goes and then goes again then goes again. Id never say she's a game changer or must pull. But if you got her just trying to build up pity she's a great physical unit to have.
We need weeks of different experiments with various situations to get to a proper conclusion.
As of now, the only future proof characters are:
All harmony, All Peneconians, Fu Xuan & Huohuo.

Who cares just build/pull who you like, there is 0 reason to care about meta because there is 0 in game competition between players. (where units are used atleast)

I recently got Clara at 300. Mainly because I lacked Physical. Yunli seems a bit spread. She doesn't excel in neither of the 3 end game modes, she's just ok. Because I already have enough units to cover at least 1 phase with the correct elements, clara team for physical, can even take 6-7 rounds to finish, and I'll still get 3 stars. If you're having issue clearing, and you don't have too many units, she could be of use for all 3 end game modes. But for someone with a decent amount of units and team comps that can already clear all content, she doesn't have too much value over Clara. Clearing in 23 or 24 turns it's the same thing.

If you want some quick napkin math, Yunli deals more then x2 the damage that Clara can do on an ult boosted counter.
Clara ult boosts her next 2 follow-ups by 160%, on top of the base 160% for 320% damage. So if you're fighting a solo boss, you'll be getting 640% over the course of two cycles, unless the boss attacks twice in one cycle.
Yunli ult Does 220% on the initial hit, then 6 instances of 72% damage spread out across random enemies. Again, if it's a solo boss, that boss will be taking 432% damage from those hits, for a total of 652% in one cycle, not counting if you have two charges of her ult and the boss attacks twice in one cycle, for a total of 1304% damage. Also this damage isn't counting that her ult boosts the crit DMG of her next Counter, ie the ultimate counter, by 100%.
BUT. None of this is counting the damage that skills and the base counter can do. Yunli and Clara's skills both deal 120% damage, but Yunli's is burst. So 120% primary, 60% adjacent. VS Clara who is 120% across all. Adding onto that Clara's skill damage gains an additional 120% if they're marked by a counter.
Then base counter damage of Clara is 160% to one target, traces boosting counter damage by 30%, while Yunli is 120% to a single target, with 60% to adjacent, with traces increases her attack by 30% when using counter for 1 turn.
The ultimate as a counter that can be placed at will is a great idea ! I just wish she had more varied animation. And yeah... for her style of play ? I wish they would have made her a tall woman fighter with more muscle than what we are used to in Hoyo universe. Would have been more satisfying to see her throwing that giant blade

What is your clara build? I also have her E1, but she is pretty underwhelming for me. But considering i have her E1, seems smarter to build her over pulling for Yunli.
With E1 Clara, you tend to focus more on the Skill spam strategy or Builds like Rutilant Arena for Skill DMG bonus.
With Advance Forwarding kit like Bronya, Sparkle or Robin, to utilize the E1 effect, after applying the Counter Buff on enemies.
@@JMike-bq6rl i just realized i actually have E2 clara. I have built her as you say, but I still cant really make her work-but maybe i am being too harsh since im comparing her to my other characters, like acheron and dhil.
I ended up pulling for yunli and im gonna be honest-i dont regret it one bit. She feels much better to play than clara and she is insanely strong.

from what i can tell from talent numbers(didnt go far with calcing how the crit dmg increases long term), the exact situations that yunli would be much better then clara is in vs 3 enemys with a bit of a prioritize on 1 target. but claras single target per counter is stronger, and her E if you get marks is really strong compared to yunlis E. so single target and even 5 target might still be better with clara. claras E1 which at least that is reasonable doesnt remove marks, so you can get decent value out of that. not to mention damage reduction is stronger then being able to heal on your own turn.
Don’t think she’s meant to be ”op” and im so happy bout it. Ffs i pulled so much during patches cuz of ”broken” units. That i dudn’t like afterwards to much. So her being here is great. We love yunli.
My day 1 experience with Yunli: she is one of the easier to build physical DPS characters. She does quite a decent amount of damage and if she's the last unit before enemies attack, you can use her ult on her turn to still get the powerful counterslash. Her energy regen rate is rather good and her taunt seems to taunt enemies very well. Coupled with her CC resist in her traces, she feels more likely to get counter attacks off, and does solid damage for a minimal investment for a crit DPS.
BIG DOWNSIDE TIME: timing her Intuit: Call is very annoying. Not only do you have to use her ult with split second timing, but you have to also memorize some boss's attack cycles because many of the major enemies don't attack every turn or don't attack at all!

What are you yapping about She is fun to play. The only character that doesn't get slapped by the enemy and knows how to block the incoming atk unlike all the characters in the game currently.
