im digging how you dont talk about your whole life story doing this stuff , short , simple and right to the point step by step , appreciate the video brother
Dude, this video couldn’t have been done any better. Straightforward, very detailed. Made me feel way more confident about rebuilding the water pump on my 450r, and I had great success today. Thanks!!
Cote, Thank you for being a straight to the point motorcycle repair guide! I made a video on my CRF450R because you inspired me!! Thank you for the help
great video , I learned the last schmuck to work on this bike put the seal in backwards onto a shaft that was toast I can't believe it leaked ... your video is very clear and to the point perfect for watching before doing it thanks .
thanks,i had no ideah why my pump was leaking so bad and this was the first video i looked at and then i didnt even need to look at another one. thanks once again
Also the audio cut out half way through. How tight do you do the WATER PUMP GULLER (the fan part)? Great video! Quick to the point, simple clear. saving me lots of money! Thanks
Very helpful I have a 2002. Cr250r an put it together an it was leaking out the weep hole, looked at partzilla for seal installation and didn’t really help me, watching your video I realized I put the out side seal in backwards, going to order a new shaft due to it being shiny were the seals ride, thanks keep up the good videos
Need to take it off. Change the bearing and both seals or you might be going back in there sooner than you want! Like and share the vids!! Thanks for watching!!
not sure if he says it but make sure you put grease around the oil seal AND MAKE SURE IT GOSE ALL THE WAY DOWN AS FARE AS IT CAN I had to remove my bearings because it was rubbing in it and I just ordered a new bearing and oil seal
The gasket is an oil barrier so it's best to put it on dry. If anything, use a thin film of liquid gasket on an oil free case surface and new gasket. Brake clean works well to remove oil and tip the bike a bit away from you to keep oil runoff from seeping out while you replace the cover. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching!
Could be with the case diagram or with the case gasket. Complete o ring kits should have them and it’s always good to have some spare o rings. Could call a dealer and have them look it up then just get the part number and look on bike bandit or something.
Not particularly. As long as the case sits on the dowels flush, no o rings are pinched and the gasket is set in between the cases you're good to tighten any way you choose. Generally I remove the bolts in a clockwise pattern, keeping track of where you started so bolts go back where they belong, then hand tighten loosely before final torque. The case shouldn't take any force to sit flush so an X pattern won't make a difference here. Main crank cases is a different story. Good question though and thanks for the comment!
Get the proper case for your model and year of bike. The clearances from year to year will change and it’s not worth the hassle of moving things around because you’ll have to tig weld everything. Try eBay or a local wrecker for parts that will fit your bike. Thanks for watching!
Is there a washer that goes on the back of the case? When I pulled my case cover off a washer fell out, it looks similar to the washers that go on the radiator shroud bolts.
You can go check the parts fiche at bikebandit.com for your exact bike if you're unsure. Only thing that may fall out when pulling that cover off would be the water pump joint and o rings.
CoteMotorcycles Now I understand as the top ends off towards the end of the vid. It was more than helpful I recommend the tips to anyone with this problem.
Since you're in there already it doesn't make sense to only replace the outer seal. The cost of the parts is minimal so I always replace all related components. Up to you if you want to chance it, be sure to clean up the impeller shaft with emery cloth if you're not going to replace it. Good luck and thanks for watching.
You don’t have to but it makes way less of a mess if you drain the oil and coolant before pulling engine covers. There are videos on the channel for everything you’ll need. Make sure the bike is cold when you are working with the cooling system. Thanks for watching!
Don't expect much from a after market pump unless yours is missing impeller fins. Make sure your rads are clear of mud and not damaged. You should be able to see through the rad veins. You could try larger after market rads. That would be more worth while than a water pump. Also make sure your bike isn't just running too hot. Lean jetting, low octane fuel, un oiled air filter, intake or exhaust leak and many other things can cause a bike to run hotter than it should. Hope that helps and be sure to post back to let us know what you find.
I have an 01 yz125 and I have my seals ready to put in but when im taking the side cover off is there anyhting I have to do with the powervalve? I can't seem to find it in the manual
The exhaust valve is just run off a centrifugal actuator. As long as you attach the arm in its proper position and install the follower in the actuator properly you'll be ok.
It’s been a while since I’ve worked on one but I think so! You can compare parts on bikebandit.com; they’ll show you a parts fiche you can compare for both units. Hope that helps! Hit us with a thumbs up, it helps!
Should be pretty close. Good idea to get an online manual for your bike to use with the video. Should be able to find one for free on a forum ect. Good luck and be sure to share the video if you like it!! Thanks for watching!
Check for missed bolts and when you're 100% sure you got them all you can give the case a tap with a rubber mallet or use the pry points to free it. Don't pet on the sealing surfaces or you'll have leaks.
great vid ,I have been watching as many water pump vids as possible ,I have replaced 3 water pump seals on my 2013 freeride 350 and trying to see if I,m doing anything wrong ,you mentioned putting grease on the seal ,what sort of grease ? as I have been fitting them dry and there failing every 10 hrs.
You had better check with KTM on what grease will be compatible with the seal. I'm not familiar with that particular set up so I'm afraid I can't give you much advice. As far as failing prematurely goes - make sure there are no burrs/notches/abnormal wear on sealing surfaces, check the related bearings for failure (causing excess motion on impeller shaft) and make sure the coolant you're running is compatible with your bikes seals ect. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching and be sure to share if you like the videos!!
Thanks for the tips and regarding the grease, this I have been told is perfect for all water pump seals , MOLYKOTE 44M, 30ml Silicone Grease, -40 - 200˙C plastic, gears, rubber seals.
im digging how you dont talk about your whole life story doing this stuff , short , simple and right to the point step by step , appreciate the video brother

Thanks man! Need to go back to dealer n buy gasket 😖 unless I can just change the violent seal from the outside?
Need to take it off. Change the bearing and both seals or you might be going back in there sooner than you want!
Like and share the vids!! Thanks for watching!!
Excellent video man, really helped me out with my 2007 crf. Got a like and a subscriber.
I just made a video like his on my 05 CRF450R. Feel free to check it out and give me your real opinion like you did for this guy.
not sure if he says it but make sure you put grease around the oil seal AND MAKE SURE IT GOSE ALL THE WAY DOWN AS FARE AS IT CAN I had to remove my bearings because it was rubbing in it and I just ordered a new bearing and oil seal
I will skip the pump go with bigger rads . thanks for the quick response definitely appreciate it
Thank you. This video worked great for me. You may want to add to remove the kickstart also.
I know it should be self explanatory, but some may not know.
St. Anthony dunes in the background 🤘🏼
i was told to not put a light film of oil on to the new gasket for the crank case to put it on dry. is there a difference ?
The gasket is an oil barrier so it's best to put it on dry. If anything, use a thin film of liquid gasket on an oil free case surface and new gasket. Brake clean works well to remove oil and tip the bike a bit away from you to keep oil runoff from seeping out while you replace the cover. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching!
Why would you need to remove the clutch cover? It's not in the way when you take it apart or put it back together
We filmed the clutch removal portion before doing this video. It doesn't need to be removed. Thanks for the comment!
+CoteMotorcycles is there a way to get in contact with you ? I have a few questions
+SnorkeldNlawd , you can get a hold of me on Facebook or messenger and I'll see if I can help you out.
+CoteMotorcycles i messaged you on there thanks man
sorry to ask something that pretty much seems so straight forward... you have to drain the gearbox oil first before removing the case am i right ?
It'll drain when you pull the cover...
New o ring on the water pump joint where can I find that didn’t find on website
Could be with the case diagram or with the case gasket. Complete o ring kits should have them and it’s always good to have some spare o rings. Could call a dealer and have them look it up then just get the part number and look on bike bandit or something.
Great video, but is there a tightening sequence for the case cover?
Not particularly. As long as the case sits on the dowels flush, no o rings are pinched and the gasket is set in between the cases you're good to tighten any way you choose. Generally I remove the bolts in a clockwise pattern, keeping track of where you started so bolts go back where they belong, then hand tighten loosely before final torque. The case shouldn't take any force to sit flush so an X pattern won't make a difference here. Main crank cases is a different story. Good question though and thanks for the comment!
CoteMotorcycles Ok, cheers
Would a crf450r clutch case work on a crf450x Bc Ik the water port is different but could I make it work
Get the proper case for your model and year of bike. The clearances from year to year will change and it’s not worth the hassle of moving things around because you’ll have to tig weld everything. Try eBay or a local wrecker for parts that will fit your bike.

Absolutely no need to remove clutch cover though 👍🏻
Jo Ski we filmed a few different videos during one disassembly. Thanks for watching and glad you found it useful!

Now I understand as the top ends off towards the end of the vid.
It was more than helpful I recommend the tips to anyone with this problem.
Is it possible that you can just replace the outer seal and stop the leaking?
Since you're in there already it doesn't make sense to only replace the outer seal. The cost of the parts is minimal so I always replace all related components. Up to you if you want to chance it, be sure to clean up the impeller shaft with emery cloth if you're not going to replace it. Good luck and thanks for watching.
Thank you
What to do when the propeler does'nt have the nut to put the wrench on ?
So did you drain the oil out first?
You don’t have to but it makes way less of a mess if you drain the oil and coolant before pulling engine covers. There are videos on the channel for everything you’ll need. Make sure the bike is cold when you are working with the cooling system.

My crf450r overheats alot.i put a Pro Circuit y hose on it, do you think Pro Circuit pump is worth the money?
Don't expect much from a after market pump unless yours is missing impeller fins. Make sure your rads are clear of mud and not damaged. You should be able to see through the rad veins. You could try larger after market rads. That would be more worth while than a water pump. Also make sure your bike isn't just running too hot. mine is leaking oil from that hole would it still be the same seals to fix it ?
Same seals.
is the same axis as the yamaha yfz 450cc ?
I have an 01 yz125 and I have my seals ready to put in but when im taking the side cover off is there anyhting I have to do with the powervalve? I can't seem to find it in the manual
The exhaust valve is just run off a centrifugal actuator. As long as you attach the arm in its proper position and install the follower in the actuator properly you'll be ok.
Are these the same for the trx 450r atv
It’s been a while since I’ve worked on one but I think so! You can compare parts on bikebandit.com; they’ll show you a parts fiche you can compare for both units. Hope that helps! Hit us with a thumbs up, it helps!
Do you have to replace all of the gaskets?
You can reuse gaskets but I recommend using gasket maker / sealant along with the old gasket.
so would this be the same way to if mines 02?
Should be pretty close. Good idea to get an online manual for your bike to use with the video. Should be able to find one for free on a forum ect. Good luck and be sure to share the video if you like it!! Thanks for watching!
CoteMotorcycles yea its all the same just i have to go in deeper and change the berings on the other shaft that spins that little one...fun
this clutch cover case has latched on stronger then last gf lol is there any good way other then brute force to get this off
nvm I got it a few pry bars on the little ledges above the water pump and below the clutch
Check for missed bolts and when you're 100% sure you got them all you can give the case a tap with a rubber mallet or use the pry points to free it. Don't pet on the sealing surfaces or you'll have leaks.
