Killua acting reckless and gon acknowledging that is silly because that's what he does is actually hilarious. Love them!

I've always love Nobunaga's real interest in Gon and Killua. You can really notice how he sees the parts he loved of Uvogin in Gon

I suspect Machi has a subconscious Nen ability that makes her instinct supernaturally sharp. It's something similar to Neon's fortune telling but obviously way less powerful and specific, not something Machi did on purpose. Her instinct is both sharp and trusted (she's even weirded out when she believes she was wrong, and she's an otherwise fairly rational person, so this is likely based on a proven track record. Plus she's not the only one who trust her instinct). This is never confirmed in any way by the manga though, just my headcanon.
"how did you figure that out" Killua explained before. He heard Nobunaga say "recently hired by the mafia" and "grudge against the troupe", that's when he figured it out. Leolio also told him that Kurapika recently found work and Killua heard from Wing Kurapika learned Nen. I mean the entire reason they promised to meet in York New was because Kurapika had a grudge against the PT and knew they would be here.
"This feels different" I'm not sure it entirely is. The first time Hisoka came on to Machi, it was because the fight had left him on edge so it was still fighting arousal, he just was looking for another more accessible way to relieve it. And another thing that happened was his excitement when he saw her nen stitches. The troupe members are monsters, and yet Hisoka has not shown a particular excitement toward any of them. The only exceptions are of course the boss, but also Machi, when she uses her threads.
Now it's possible that Hisoka's appreciation of Machi is less based on raw power, but because he sees the most of himself in her power. Machi's power is very similar to Hisoka's so if he views himself as the strongest, he'd obviously have a bias toward her too but either way, his attraction to her is probably nen-based too rather than something classical.
As for Killua's sacrifice, I agree with you in general that it probably wasn't the best moment, but I think you're overestimating the certainty that Killua's would in fact sacrifice himself for Gon. The conditioning he's been through is not necessarily that easy to break. Remember that Illumi said during their fight that if Killua gave up, he would kill Gon. And Killua did give up because he was too scared of his brother, even though at the time he believed that meant Gon would die. He already threw Gon's life away once because of his fear. And that was against his brother, someone he knew was stronger but he at least had good reason to believe wouldn't kill him.
So when you say that "he has that potential like everyone does", I think that's where you underestimate his specific situation. He has that situation even more than most people because of his family and upbringing. And certainly more than most people in stories who keep sacrificing themselves for each other xD

And their it comes, the Annie and Armin comparison. It's so weird for me since I've followed HxH since close to its beginning, this is the other way around for me and when I started Shingeki no Kyojin I was like "Hey that's Paku and Shal"

I'm getting a ton of references in reverse watching this show now. AoT, JJK, Spy x Family...

@@AGoodwinTV For sure, some of which are no coincidence : Gege Akutami (JJK's author) in particular said in interviews that his work was influenced by many great work before him and the "contract" of his manga are directly inspired by the "self restriction" of HxH.

while the Hunter Exam and more specifically the Trick Tower section was a very good call-back the moment Gon and Killua and escaped Nobunaga..... the reason they decided to "create their own exit" in that moment is specifically because of what Zepile taught them 2 episodes ago, the "side-stepping" thing that he explained with the mini-statue and how people make an opening on it from the side to hide or retrieve objects.
And talking of Nobunaga.... i simply love him, he's my favorite troupe member besides the Boss Chrollo, and he's even voiced by Naoya Uchida himself, who you might remember as the voice of Askeladd in Vinland Saga.

it's kinda scary that Gon recognizes his place in the dynamic, instead of making an effort to improve from this dynamic. it screams a co-dependency to me. I wonder why he doesn't just ask his dad how to handle relationships and growing during them? .. oh wait

0:37 oh nice catch ^^ this is image training Conjurers have to keep doing it to make their ability stronger... also you made a joke about it but there's a fan theory about Shizuku developing this vacuum ability bc she wanted to forget smth forever so with the vacuum she can get rid of things and she's not able to get them back...I think it makes sense

watching the Hunter Exam arc: what is the point of all this. how will this ever be helpful in a real situation?
watching any other arc after that: of course, so obvious. we learned this during the hunter exam, the single most valuable experience of their lives!

I just wanted to add that Killua figures out it's Kurapika most likely because the Phantom Troupe mentions the chain user has a grudge against them. And Killua knows about Kurapika's backstory

you are probably further along in Patreon
But I am watching along with your youtube so I am only in episode 50
Nevertheless. I want to add my thoughts on the hunter license...At first I thought it would be like Demon Slayer..where you get assignments after passing the test and just like in the earlier episodes. I thought to myself: if this is the test, what are they fighting...?
But from what I have seen, it looks like passing the hunter exam does not get you a job like a demon slayer or a member of the survey corps or a jujutsu sorcerer. Instead, you get like a driver's license, just like you get a driver's license. You do not have to drive, but you can pretend you never got your license. Or you can drive wherever you want. Basically..Once you have passed the test, you just have some rights and opportunities to do something. You can do whatever you want with it.
That's certainly new and interesting in all the anime I have seen

Man this arc is so great no matter how many times I watch it. But because of the focus on Spiders and Kurpika I think people usually don't pay attention of how well and subtle they start to establish Gon's character flaws. Sure for now it seems pure and childlike and funny, but as we go on you we get to see more and more that it may not all be as positive as it seems...
