In 1929, the Disney brothers were broke. Roy made the deal to license Disney merch and stamped it with their approval to cash in on royalties, rather than making the product themselves.
In 1941, Walt’s animation studios went on strike…so Walt decided to go on vacation to South America, leaving the mess for his brother Roy to fix. Their father passed away a few weeks later, and Walt didn’t return from South America to see his father and “pressed on.” Roy negotiated with the studios to get the workers back to work.
Roy left his retirement to open Disney World, then died shortly after.
Roy is uncredited true financial hero and marketing genius that saved the company many times.

Actually, for the most part of the long way, nothing much really changed/happened.
They had the comics and cartoon movie business, plus the theme parks.
Only in 2009, with the acquisition of Marvel _(buying Pixar before was just natural)_ did Disney started to become that juggernaut that it is today.
Who would've thought just about ~12 years ago that Disney would've become what it is today. They're on their way to form a duopoly with Amazon, if it goes on like this.
I looked it up and the Disney stock went from $50 in 2011 to $330 in 2021. I guess I should've put all my money in Disney...

Quick Comment: At 4:08 you note that Walt's brother Roy took the reins of the company after Walt's death in 1966, but the picture you show there is not of Walt's brother, Roy Oliver Disney. Instead, you've shown Roy O. Disney's son, Roy Edward Disney, Walt's nephew. Roy E. Disney was the last member of the Disney family to be actively involved in the company's management, but he never served as Chief Executive. You got the right Roy Disney at 4:43, however.

1:58 it's an amazing rise from being independent studios relying to Universal to become Universal's tight competition at the box office

Disney seemed to get a lot of their aquisitions for a steal, but I can't believe they paid $71b for 20th Centuary Fox. The debt they must now have on their balance sheet must be insane, although they could have used stock to fund some of the purchase. Disney+ appears to now be the best online streaming platform in terms of shows available. I wonder what they will purchase next.

Disney, if they were to make a big acquisition again, would definitely try to get WarnerMedia.

@Emanuel McKenzie Sony is too big. Both in value and size of the company. Sony manufactures Tv's, phones, consoles, and countless other products that Disney has no experience with. If you're talking about Sony Pictures well Disney could buy it but why would they? James Bond is not very marketable in merchandise and they wouldn't have full control of the ip. Disney doesn't like that. Spider-Man's movie rights would be great to have but too expensive considering Disney would get it for free if Sony were to be acquired by another company. The most logical next step is Wanrer Bros with ip's like DC, Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, HBO shows and a bunch of other stuff.

One thing I will add: Dreamworks was founded after he didn't get a promotion to head of Disney, and someone else got said promotion. He was infuriated and made Dreamworks.

In the future, you should make more videos about studios such as DreamWorks Animation or Pixar (which is technically owned by Disney, but I digress). Maybe even other streaming services such as Hulu or Peacock.
Speaking of Peacock, I guess you could also make videos on Comcast and NBC, especially since both companies merged together in the early 2010s. Verizon and AT&T and T-Mobile compete fiercely with them, so maybe they'd make for good video subjects too. 😅
