I love coming on here and watching something so wholesome as a father with so much love for his daughter. You’ve certainly set the bar very high for her to accept nothing less. ❤
That was the fastest 15:46 of my life! I didn't want it to be over-I think yall did a great job-even when you lost your helper-you finished by yourself and carried on with the design. I think it looks great. Every "schmearer" has their own techniques and tools. I've not seen using a technique of refilling in the grout lines and I like it because it's quicker this way. Others have struggled getting those lines filled in as they "schmear" the mortar across the brick-I think this way is best. Thanks for another great video - hope the kitchen one comes soon-I love this series. More French Bulldog please!❤ Thanks again for filming this series for us. Blessed family.
I love the smear technique. It looks awesome. I would've painted the vents a lighter color so they're not so prominent, but that's just a color preference. The whole place looks great though. 😊
Mick!!! You have us all completely invested now!!! We are greedy and selfish!!! Lol we anxiously await updates!! Ok, you're busy with life....BUT....what about us!! We're busy waiting!!!😮😂 All in good fun, of course! Happy Holidays!!
I love the outcome of the schmear! I would rather see the vents in a colour close to the schmear as they really stand out. I love watching your videos.
I like the technique on the fireplace. I commented on the last video, it should be painted to match the brick wall. The wall would look good done this same way. I think a mantle would look nice on the fireplace and a good place to display items. Nicely done! And ...ha ha ha BAH!
I like the Schmere look on the brick it turned out great. But I liked the flat harth area when it was the solid layer on mud better then when you removed some of it. I appreciate the work you are doing.
Yeah, I’m really happy with the way the brick turned out, but not as much so with the hearth. I might have to change it up in the future. Thanks for watching and commenting! 👍
I watched the 100 yo cabin since we're waiting for your next vid to drop for this project and it stopped t episode 17!! OMG I'm so invested in your series - is there any chance to at least see the finish of the cabin?
Personally, I prefer the original brick color. I'd have just run something like quarter-round along the outside edges and painted it to match the wall.
Looks fabulous! I've been waiting soooooo long for an update 😂 hopefully more will be coming more often. What about the long cabin you purchased and was fixing up? Can't wait to see progress on that too!
the fire place looks great! i was worried when you said what you were going to do. Ive seen so many pinterest horrors when people "update" brick or stone in their home.
We had the same vent fans on our old fireplace that my father built in 1962. They really came in handy, along with the old bellows . You have done a phenomenal job on this renovation Mick
Excellent job filling the gaps in the fireplace. It looks better, but if it were me, I'd have painted it after filling everything in. I usually hate painted brick, but since it's already partially "painted" from the mortar, might as well go further to either blend it into the wall or make it pop with an accent color.
fireplace is just in that weird spot. id prob re build it at the center of that wall, it is a whole lot more work but then u can fit in one of those elictric fireplace thingies, but overall ur an awesome dad
Hi Mick! This looks really good. When I have seen other “schmear” jobs, lol, they haven’t used the grout bag. Your technique I think was less messy and really looks amazing. 👍👍👍 Also, I tried the Frog tape. It worked well, and it was a little cheaper. Win-win! Thank for the tip! 🙏😁
The fireplace looks awesome. It looks so much better. I'm glad you and your daughter decided to update the look. Your daughter is going to have the cutest little home that will be just perfect for her. Thanks Dad for all the hard work you've done so your daughter has a nice place to live. I have been lovin' these videos.
Advice. Person who worked in coatings. If your wall paint surrounding the fireplace did not have 30 days to cure before being wiped down, you need to repaint that area. Once cured, that area will be easy to clean. Without a cure... it will not.
So ready for an update!!!! Please❤
Working on it, just been busy 👍

Dang! 🤪
A slab of marble or granite would look great on the flat section in front of the fireplace. Look for a remnant at a local stone yard.
I agree. I love the rest of the fireplace, but I think the flat part would look better with something all one color or like marble or granite.
That’s a great idea, thanks! 👍
Looks great!
Go with a black, or a black & white granite, to complement the black painted grates.
Hope you're well, waiting for the next video.
Hope you are OK, looking forward to seeing the next step.
Doing well, thanks👍. Had a busy summer, ready to get back into my projects.
@@Madebymick Glad to hear all is well, enjoyed the new video.

Can't wait for the next video! Love watching this project.
Coming soon!

She wanted vents black to match something she's putting in there. I'm sure it will all tie together beautifully.

I'm so glad you went with the German schmear! I love that look and yours came out great!
Thank you! I’m really happy with the results.
Great job on the fireplace! Can’t wait to see the final result, your daughter is lucky to have you!
Thank you!

My plan is to get back into the cabin once the apartment is finished. Thanks so much for your support!
Love the Schmear look, gives it an old world feel. Well done you 2 👏👏
Thanks so much! 😊
I love this look! Good job Dad and Kenna!
Mick! What happened to ya???
Hello are you here yet? So excited to see the finished apt for her!!!
Hi, I’ve been busy lately, running a little behind. Thanks for your interest👍
You're a wonderful dad.
Thank you 🙏
Are there going to be more episodes? I’ve been anxiously hoping for updates on this project.💛
Yes, I’ve been crazy busy lately, but I’ll release another video before long. Thanks so much for your support!

Yes! Agreed.
Fair enough!
i feel sure you would have updated by now so i hope all is well. sending ya'll some good energy.
Thanks for the good energy, all is well, hoping to update soon. 👍
I was disappointed that you were not going to leave the fireplace alone, but I actually like this.
I love the new fireplace as much as I hated the old one and thats a lot!
The fireplace is beautiful.
Old world made contemporary. Wonderful. You are really an awesome dad. Kudos.
Thanks a lot! 👍
Nice work, looks way better! you could do with tile or stone of some sort on top of that brick hearth perhaps? (for a cleaner look)
Good idea!
Looks good! I would have liked to see someone try a lime rendering for a smooth finish just to see if that's a solution for brick
It looks great! ❤ I love the matte black vent covers over the white schmear 🎉
I like them too, they should go nicely with some of the furniture and decor we plan on using also. 👍
That fireplace remodel is so cute! I can just imagine it with some Christmas decorations around it this year! 😃
Totally!👍
Looks fabulous! I've been waiting soooooo long for an update 😂 hopefully more will be coming more often.

It looks fantastic good job.
Thank you!
Great work, the fireplace looks updated and beautiful!
Thank you!
Would you consider a stone slab or slate tile on the brick hearth?
Yeah, I’ve gotten several comments suggesting that, and I think it’s a great idea. Might have to check into that. Thanks!
What a great looking improvement for the fireplace. The room looks so much better now! Great job. 👍
I think so too! Thanks 🙏

Thank you, and the grout bag was definitely the answer! Glad to hear the frog tape worked out well for you. 👍
I really like the fireplace now. I'm glad you decided to do something with the brick. It definitely was outdated. Looks so much better.
You and me both! 👍

A nice improvement!! I wish I could convince my husband that we need this done on our dark fireplace!!
nice job on it
Wonderful!
Thank you! Cheers!
I like it!
It’s not my thing, but as usual, you did perfect work. 🎉
I normally don’t like when people cover the fireplace but seeing it covered with mortar isn’t so bad
Excellent.
Many thanks!
What a great update on the fireplace!! The wall color is perfect with it !!! Good job Dad!!😊
Thanks so much!
Any more progress on the home? I have been looking forward to watching it.
I hope to have a video out soon, I’ve been really busy lately. Thanks for your support!
