Having an SKX and a Seiko 5 not getting much wrist time is not the end of the world. Unless you really need the date, the Explorer will do everything the 5 can and be more satisfying. Keep it for the missus when her Apple watch battery dies. Given your super strong focus on The Crown, don’t buy the Moonwatch. Save your £400 for the new home and aim for a bargain Black Bay in 2 years, when all the current Tudor hype has cooled down.
Hi Hervé, thanks so much for watching buddy. I think I might push the Seikos on. Even if they raise a little bit of money, that's still more money closer to the BB58, or Explorer II. The hype around Tudor does feel a bit forced, the BB Pepsi has been offered to me a few times from the same AD, the demand can't be as high as what people make out. Cheers, Adrian
You are not supposed to wear every watch in your collection. Collecting is a pleasure and possession itself is a pleasure. Studying every aspect of your watch is a pleasure. Obviously if you are capable to wear all your watch it's better but, in my opinion, you have to keep all the watches you like, even if you don't wear them. Do the Zippo collectors use their lighters? Do the old cars collectors drive every car?
I would always suggest keeping the $$ and letting it grow to get something you really want. That being said, if you're missing one thing here it's a formal dress watch. What about a late 60's or early 70's King or Grand Seiko? If you get one with the 'chronometer' dial you have a watch with great history for about $700-$1000 USD. I have a 1969 King Seiko with the chronometer dial. I hardly ever wear it, too many other options in the collection, but I love staring at it in my watch box. It's also a conversation piece if a watch person sees it and asks about it; talk leads down the path of 1960's Japanese arrival into the watch game and the ensuing shenanigans.
Bought one of your NATO’s for my 2018 seamaster. Gonna be wearing it through my naval basic training so I need it to be tough. The nylon and hardware look like they will do the job!
Congratulations on the house purchase! You won't regret moving out of London. I moved out of SE London last year and now live in Kent. I honestly feel like I could walk around with my Seamaster and no will will bat an eyelid! Hope the move goes well. Happy New Year.
A watch collection is a very personal thing. You're entitled to do whatever you want to with it. If you want safe queens, have them. If you want to flip them, do it. Needs must. Just try to enjoy them while you have them.
Great video, Adrian. Save for the BB58, I got mine just before the holidays and liked it so much I sold my BB Red 41mm. The BB58 is the perfect size and thickness. Cheers
I love these STOC videos...It is very cool to see what you have in your collection and why. Oddly, I am in the same place I have ~$400 and really want to spend but I have decided to wait and get something of higher value. Thank you for another excellent video...I can't believe how much the channel has grown this year - Congratulations Adrian and Happy New Year :)
I know this might be a bit late but what you can do with the seiko is you can buy a cheap oyster steel bracelet from aliexpress and then replace the strap on the seiko with that. It gives it a lovely rolex datejust / explorer vibe and i cant help but think that would top it off for that watch
Also, there is not a single review of this watch online yet so you could be the first! I'd happily buy it off you after review if you want to free up that £400 again.
Hi Adrian. I have just bought a secondhand Longines Hydroconquest as a bit of a basher watch. £450 on eBay. I don't really want to bash it but wouldn't be overly upset if it got damaged or lost, or worse, nicked. Its a no stress holiday watch. Looks awesome, wears awesome, build quality is awesome too. Datejust 36 and Bremont Alt1-WT are the others of note in the watch box.
With those 400 you can get a Hamilton Khaki Field 38mm automatic on a bracelet. Then you get to compare it to your Explorer I. It's a great everyday wear watch, maybe the best from the Khaki line, and one of the greatest value props of the Swiss industry. I'd love to see a comparison video between those two. I bet there will be days you'll enjoy wearing it over the Explorer.
If buying another 16570, you might want to consider an earlier, tritium indices / hands version. If anything, to avoid the permanent green hue, even in daylight found on some superluminova versions.
Happy New Year Adrian! I truly appreciate the honest and genuine thoughts you share with us. Like you, I have a family and must always be mindful of how much money I spend on my watches. I am saving for a Speedmaster Pro, and am constantly tempted to pickup other cheaper pieces, no more so than when my local Seiko AD had a 40% off sale before Christmas! I say be strong and save your £400 for the Tudor. You obviously love it, and after losing the Harrods watch, I think you owe it to yourself. Enjoy the new house!
CWC and Marathon are very similar... but Marathon prices have gotten pretty high for their automatic models (GSAR, Jumbo, chronos). I completely agree with how you feel with the Rolex Explorer. Do NOT sell the Batman... sell the Green rolex first! Nothing wrong with being a Rolex fanboy. I don't own one, but largely because I can't justify spending that much on just one watch. Maybe you should look at buying a Seiko Marinemaster 300 (new model has ceramic and sapphire). Do NOT buy the Tudor... you'll find after a month or two that it's too similar to your Rolex(s). I personally would love to own only Rolex and Seikos (plus Speedmaster).
Keep saving for the BB58 it’s worth the wait. My collection consists of 30 pieces and I’ve been collecting for about 30 years. I wear them all and will only sell a piece if I feel it just doesn’t suit me and I can’t bond with it. Happy New Year!
Recently bought a new Explorer, based in part on your recommendation, absolutely love it. Does not draw much attention, which I like. That and the SARB 033 (beater version of Explorer) get by far the most wrist time are are very similar in design. The Batman is my Grail, hope to get one in 2019. Keep up the good work, your channel is very entertaining and informative, especially for a watch geek like me! Going to miss the London shots!
Thanks for sharing, I love watches and love to see other people talking passionately about their own collection. I enjoy your videos, keep up the good work and glad to see you're not a snob about cheaper brands and quartz movements.
I have two watches I rarely wear. I have a vintage Seiko DX that was bought by my uncle new in 1967. It's dressy for modern times, I don't dress up, and it's worth far more in sentiment than it would ever be in money. I also have a Seiko Samurai that see's very little wrist time as I wear my Ranger or SMP most days. I just don't sell it because it wouldn't put a big enough dent in my savings goal to justify, and it's the only (relatively) inexpensive watch I can destroy. Although I treat my Omega and Tudor like tanks anyway. Good luck with the move. Cheers!
Seems to me you’re in a very good place with your collection. It’ll be interesting to see what happens in 2019 and beyond. But of course, family comes first.
Bark and Jack My expectation (hope?) is that Rolex will fit all of its steel sport watches with the new 3200 Series Caliber. So 2019 may turn out to be quite interesting.
Great video! I had to sell 2 Rolexes in order to buy a house so I felt the pain you are trying to avoid. I sold a GMT Batman like yours (gulp) and a white dial ceramic Daytona (double gulp). Obviously logically house is a better investment than a couple of watches but emotionally it was tough to take. Really hope you can do the move and keep your Rolexes. I just got a Tudor Fifty Eight and I agree with you it’s a dream watch and for the price you can’t beat it. Good luck with the move!
As always nice video and thanks for being one of the few guys who loves Rolex for the time peaces they do and not for their brand name and status they supposedly give. Beside that you have a nice collection and wait form being able to get the black bay, I was so happy when I got my BBB that is worth the wait. I tried and bought a c60bronze telling myself it's bronze it's cheap...but yeah I was much happier and satisfied when I resold it and got my BBB. And I have watches I use only 2 or 3 times a year, but I bough the for special occasions so selling them would mean loose the memory of why I bought them. Watches are with us for a long time, and that moment when we first bought it can't be replaced with the same model if we rebuythem back. Like your polar Rolex, u can buy another but will never be that polar u first bought...and will always remind u of that..that memory that feeling.
I have 6 watches so far (all being well I will also have a Tudor BB58 in about 3 months) and I pretty much alternate them every other day lol. Have a Bremont Solo (black face), Omologato Maranello, Seiko Sk007 (after watching your vid last year), Seiko chronograph (as I can’t afford/ get a Daytona- white face with shiny blue text! V nice), suunto sports watch, shameless cheap Rolex look Tevise £21! Lol and it gets so much love from people it’s crazy! People think I am crazy with all these watches but ladies have different jewellery and people have lots of different clothes....it’s no different! Keep up the work in 2019! Hope move goes ok! Look forward to the car videos! Lol
Exactly, women have their jewellery boxes why not us guys having several watches? I've had as many as five at one time, but for me, I was a little crazy trying to figure out what to wear. So I traded and sold a few now down to only a Sea-Dweller, the old style 2002 model, and a 2010 Daytona. I do the strap changing to feel a different watch on my wrist.
Keep the 400 my friend. Your collection covers almost every situation and any incoming pieces will have a tough time dislodging that beautiful Explorer. BTW, every time you pull up that Explorer, it makes me wanna go get one!
Thanks for showing us your collection! My next purchase, once I save up enough money and will be able to spend this much on a watch, will be the Hamilton H70455533 Automatic Khaki Field watch! I love the 38mm size and how versatile it can be in different attire and with different straps.
I know you're a Rolex 'fanboy', but I'd urge you to get the Speedmaster. You don't have a chronograph, and the speedy has a cool factor that is very different from Rolex. It's like the explorer - there's just something about it that makes you want to pick it up.
Cool video. Yes your explorer is the dogs dangly bits! Ok,I had overcollected(nothing in the value range of those) but stripped back because I was and still only wear 2 or 3 and enjoy wearing again now the choice has thinned out! I think too much choice the fun goes a bit?Cheers,Len.
Get the black bay 58 for sure. And as far as pieces that don’t see wear or use, eventually you will end up selling them even if you like them. At least I’ve always found that to be the case.
I honestly LOVED the Harrods Tudor!!! But deposit on house >>>> any watch.... Wish my pocket was deep enough to even consider getting any Tudor right now!
I can understand you're a Rolex fanboy, but both you and this channel would benefit a lot from some watch diversity. For example most of us would be curious what your thoughts are on a JLC as compared to the Rolexes. Or what the ownership experience is on a Glashutte, Breitling, Panerai or Zenith. Maybe you could borrow them for a day, if you can't buy them.
After we moved house the first box I hunted down was the one containing the coffee; the second one was the one with my watches. I was at home after that :)
I bought a new old stock CWC G10 '97 from ebay....amazing watch.....I almost use it as my master chronometer for my automatics (Explorer, SKX, Sarbs x 2)....just a great watch for £108
If you love your Explorer, go for the BB58, just picked up one from the AD and it is the perfect compliment to the Explorer, just wish the BB bracelet had the Easy-link, thats my only complaint. I think I might be done buying watches now, may sell off most of the rest of my collection! You only “need” these two!
Your emotional attachment to the Explorer is fully justified! What a watch! . . . I, too, want a BB 58. So if I were you, I would put the 400 quid toward a BB 58. It's such an affordable luxury watch, that 400 pounds is a significant part of the price!
I think you should definitely consider the Speedmaster Professional. There’s something about it that makes it feel similar to your Explorer I when you wear it. Just a great everyday watch that goes perfectly with any and every strap.
Great video Adrian I'd sell the Kermit (it's GREEN!). Get the Hamilton Khaki Mechanical (I just got one, very nice piece). And maybe the Oris Aquis. You'll still have around 8K left to pay off the mortgage!
You should try some vintage quartz. I just bought a Seiko Superior for £300 which has dual quartz crystals and gets 5 seconds per year accuracy. And it 50 years old. There are lots of lovely King Quartz, Lord Quartz and Silverwave watches on eBay and they’re fantastic.
In general I believe in cleaning out from the collection rarely used watches that when you pick it up, you just think the design is cool and don't really have any treasured memories attached to it. Because even though you like the look, for some reason its not enough to get time on your wrist anyways, so why keep it y'know? (but of course, sell at the right time)
Nice video. Completely agree with you about the Explorer. Feel the same about mine and it gets the most wrist time of any of my small collection. Classic design, sits and feels great on the wrist. Happy New Year to you and looking forward to you reaching 100,000 subscribers (which your channel deserves).
Go for the Tudor Blackbay 58 This is an amazing quality made watch for the money. I recently bought one from AD The size and look of this watch are perfect
I don’t believe in safe queens, wear watches or move them on to someone who will love them and wear them. I also believe you should wear what makes you happy that day. Don’t worry about others and their opinion. As for a Speedy vs another Explorer? I think your collection would benefit from a Chrono. Buy a Speedy variant that is uncommon and you’ll be happy. 400 quid? Save the money and build up for a meaningful purchase. Also bargains or opportunities sometimes show up unexpectedly and it’s better to have money available should you need it. The Batman? If you aren’t going to wear it then sell it or if you need the money for your move. You can always find another one, even if it means buying at a premium. Good luck with the move and Happy New Year
I wore my Kermit everyday for years I had it serviced and the bezel, insert, crystal, and crown replaced last summer.$1600.00. I am a bartender so that ten years was hard on it. I now never wear it at work and use a apple watch instead. I will never sell it but i dont want to damage it again.
Four hundred quid? Straight to Christopher Ward. You will have to save a bit more but take a look at the C65 TRIDENT VINTAGE on leather - gorgeous and only 38mm. I was fortunate enough to receive a Trident 300 (38mm quartz Diver) for a recent birthday from SWMBO and I absolutely love it. The Trident Vintage should be available for under £500 with a voucher: automatic (Sellita SW-200-1) and sapphire crystal. No brainer. Christopher Ward watches really are as good as all the reviews say they are. Nice review, Rolex overload not withstanding.
My rule of thumb is that if I don’t wear it at least once a week, I sell it. Which means if I want to keep a watch I make time to wear it. I might make an exception if the watch is not worth the trouble selling. I also giveaway watches to friends and family, that’s a good way to let others enjoy them.
A Happy New Rolex Year to you too! If it was my collection and I needed to free up some cash for a new house, I'd sell the Kermit while it's still hot. Keep the Batman, it's a stunning watch. Wear it often and enjoy it.....life's too short. I used to wear mine on a variety of rubber straps but I have started to love the Oyster bracelet too ....I used to hate it! - Funny how perceptions change! Your next watch MUST be the BB58 it's awesome and affordable! My most recent purchase was a 2004 Daytona with black dial and the 'skinny' hands. I just can't connect with it, the dial is too busy and I find it nearly impossible to read the time in certain lighting! The Daytona has to go......what should I get instead?
Another great video, Adrian. Thank you. I recently watched one of your earlier videos where you promoted the idea of buying the watch you really want, not the watch you can afford today and is sort-of like the one you really want (the approach I am now following in my collection) so my advice is to hold out for the BB58.
Hi Adrian, happy new year. I quite enjoy your videos. Keep it up. I did a personal 'stock take' to see what i purchased in 2018...turned out to be 17 watches...which is kind of a lot. Problem is I don't sell anything and I really should. I'd imagine 2019 to be fewer in quantity especially since I am holding out for a 116519LN or 116515LN. No stock even for these references. I've expressed interest at the ADs for the BLNR (amongst other novelties from Rolex)...for 2 years now since the supply shortage. Still no joy though I could walk into a grey dealer and pick one up today. Was happy for you to get the call for your BLNR and the Harrod's BB...and sad that you had to sell off the BB and possibly the BLNR. Hope you don't have to but if you do, I'd be interested. Would've been interested in the Harrods edition too...but again, gotta save the funds for a Daytona... Check me out on IG at 0_kewl and witness the illness that is WIS.
Should have kept the Rolex GMT master II batman. Only IMO, I understand you needed the cash for the house. Hope you enjoy the Seiko and Rolex Sub that replaced it. Cheers bud.
Nice collection Adrian I’ve got a few I don’t really wear the sea dweller 50th anniversary Tudor Harrods Seiko sbdx017 I’m sure I will use them more at some point regards the bb58 I would definitely hang on to buy that or see what happens at basel all the best for 2019 and good luck with the move
I have a couple I don’t really wear. I am also considering letting them go. Also have you considered with your 400 pot looking at something like a Stowa pilots watch for a casual watch or marine for a dress watch?
Where are you moving to? Commuter belt or moving city entirely to Manchester, Birmingham, Liverpool etc...? I used to have a Kermit. found it a little delicate and now have the sub c which feels more robust due to the thicker lugs.
Have a look at the Hamilton Khaki field mechanical. I have the brown dial one, I think I actually showed you it at the redbar Glasgow event. Well worth the money. Ps. Your straps look great on it.
Adrian, don't let people talk you into selling rarely worn pieces. There's nothing wrong with keeping them, if that's what you want to do. However, if you want or need to sell them, then do so. It's your collection. Do what you want. As to saving for a new watch versus buying a cheaper one, I would think that you would be happier with the Speedy or Tudor. BTW, what is your opinion on a Speedmaster Reduced? Best of luck with the move, LOL! I feel your pain, as I am doing the same 🙂
That vintage Seamaster was a gorgeous piece. Sorry you had to let it go. I really want the Tudor Black Bay Fifty-Eight; what are your thoughts on holding out until after Basel 2019?
Was really cool to see where your collection is at. I always enjoy these types of videos the most. I loved that vintage omega you had, so sad to see it go. I say save the 400. Everything you would get with it wouldn’t bring anything to the table that wasn’t already being covered by your seikos and your CWC IMO. Awesome video though man!
Thanks Teddy. I think you’re right about saving the money. Spending it will only put me further away from a watch I really want.
Cheers, Adrian

watch or house deposit?
Can never do too many explorer videos! I’d be more than happy to see another
I'm not a Rolex guy, at all, but I'm tempted by the explorer's in the range......ohh, what to do.
Wait 4 weeks and if you still feel the same way, then you might actually like the watch rather than how you're reacting to other people blushing.
Maybe trade the SKX007 for a SKX013. The size for me is great

Me too, I liked that better than the Kermit & Batman.
@@markplayford5836 as a collector though it definitely has less residual value - especially when they keep knocking them out
Agreed, but If we all bought stuff as investments the whole collecting thing would be very dull. See your point though.
@Michaelbishop do harrods have these tudors constantly or is there a waiting list like the bb58
I love watches and coffee. I’d love to hear more about the coffee you drink. How you brew, favorite bean, etc.
Hi Tony, thanks for watching buddy. I need to learn more about coffee before I talk about it. I still just use a nespresso machine. Cheers, Adrian
I never tire of 14270 vids, please don't hesitate to make another one!
Bought one of your NATO’s for my 2018 seamaster. Gonna be wearing it through my naval basic training so I need it to be tough. The nylon and hardware look like they will do the job!
That's awesome to hear man! Congrats on getting in and good luck.
Go with the 58...save the $..:.
I like the Explorer I the best out of your collection.
Over the new year I have sold my Omega P.O. for a 36mm Explorer. You videos tipped me over the edge and it's arriving tomorrow... excited!!!
I'd be very interested to hear your views/review the new Smiths Everest 36mm as a more affordable version of the Explorer (1016 specifically)?
Just checked these out. Look very interesting. Looks a great value prop. Also there is a nice field watch too.
Also, there is not a single review of this watch online yet so you could be the first! I'd happily buy it off you after review if you want to free up that £400 again.
Found one for the 40mm on W&W but not the 36.
@@jet-settingrogue761In fairness the 36mm was only launched in December
Those Timefactors watches are legit. The Smiths PRS-29a might be the best looking field watch on the market today.
If you are still looking for a car manufacturer to go to? Have you tried Morgan? Apparently they are really good with accommodating TH-camrs.
That’s a brilliant idea. Thanks.
@@BarkandJack let me know, I live near them
Great Video. I'd be interested to see a video about your experience and journey with purchasing your first Rolex. With any tips and ideas around it
That's a good idea, and actually something I've just met up with someone to talk about. The video should be dropping next week.
Cheers, Adrian
@Michael L yeah. I'd be curious to see how Adrian conducted his research
Cheers!
Kermit worth less after dropping it on the floor 😅
I like to think it adds "character" haha.
Ouch!
Seems to me you’re in a very good place with your collection. It’ll be interesting to see what happens in 2019 and beyond. But of course, family comes first.
Thanks David. I really hope I get to add a BlackBay 58 or Explorer II to the collection this year.
Cheers, Adrian
Would loooooove a Daytona!
Hamilton, Oris or Longines.
Where can I get one of those leather/calf carry pouches you show in one of the last stills on this vid?
Get a vintage breitling. A 1191 or a top time. Amazing value for money
Walter Lawry exactly - great suggestion! Add a bit of personality to your collection.
Hmmm... 911 Kermit vs. Rolex Kermit...what would I pick???
I like what you sold and I like what you're still holding......excellent selections.
Great video Adrian
I'd sell the Kermit (it's GREEN!). Get the Hamilton Khaki Mechanical (I just got one, very nice piece). And maybe the Oris Aquis. You'll still have around 8K left to pay off the mortgage!
Nice presentation of your collection! I enjoyed this video.
(but of course, sell at the right time)
That's a heck of a collection. I've always enjoyed the Explorer. I think it's a great piece that IS able to do everything. Great video!!!
Love these videos...your candor and knowledge is refreshing.
How about spending £300 on a Seiko SRPB41? Put it on a nice leather strap as the bracelet is a bit tacky.
Good luck with the move and Happy New Year
I expected to see a GS on your collection. Very nice watches and totally agree about the Explorer.
Agree about the explorer, understated rugged elegance
As a speedy owner I would say get one. You have no chronograph in the collection. Keep up the good work. Happy new year
Another great video, Adrian. Thank you.
I recently watched one of your earlier videos where you promoted the idea of buying the watch you really want, not the watch you can afford today and is sort-of like the one you really want (the approach I am now following in my collection) so my advice is to hold out for the BB58.
Really cool editing and beautiful collection. Congrats on the new house my man!
Cheers bud.
At 00:39, where did you buy that gorgeous watch roll bag thingy? If etsy, could you please provide a link to the seller?
Nice collection Adrian I’ve got a few I don’t really wear the sea dweller 50th anniversary
Tudor Harrods
Seiko sbdx017 I’m sure I will use them more at some point regards the bb58 I would definitely hang on to buy that or see what happens at basel all the best for 2019 and good luck with the move
I have a couple I don’t really wear. I am also considering letting them go. Also have you considered with your 400 pot looking at something like a Stowa pilots watch for a casual watch or marine for a dress watch?
Whats your “Decorating watch” going to be, the SKX is ideal, if not spend a tiny bit on a G-Shock.
Explorer 1 is the best ! I have it on Everest leather brown strap . My favorite ! Happy new year btw Sir😀
Where are you moving to? Commuter belt or moving city entirely to Manchester, Birmingham, Liverpool etc...?
I used to have a Kermit. found it a little delicate and now have the sub c which feels more robust due to the thicker lugs.
Hi!! Love your videos .What do you think about my railmaster trilogy 38mm? It’s a similar model than your explorer isn’t it?
I love all the pieces in the trilogy. I think they are very well done.
I feel your pain, as I am doing the same 🙂
What platform do you use to sell your watches? Just wondering what people are using.Good content, keep it up!
You: "I kind of feel like I've done this guy to death."
Me: NO!
Haha, thanks buddy.
Are you missing the Tudor? Thinking of getting one and had put myself on the waitlist today.
That vintage Seamaster was a gorgeous piece. Sorry you had to let it go. I really want the Tudor Black Bay Fifty-Eight; what are your thoughts on holding out until after Basel 2019?
Very good collection, from the Rolex to the CXC and of course the Seiko. Always cool to enjoy unexpensive quartz watches, too.
Nice video man. I love the production quality, really top notch.
