    Hi Guys,
    I thought I'd make a video on some of the poor decisions that I've made around buying watches. It just so happens these are Omega and Rolex.

    My biggest regret was selling my late Fathers Datejust, at the time I was between jobs and I needed the money to help pay the mortgage on my house. I know that my decision was the right one at the time but it still hurts when I think about it. Long story short, I landed a great job working for Rolls-Royce and will be purchasing a Datejust to replace the one I sold. I know it’s not the actual watch, but it will be a homage to it.

      You gotta do what you gotta do.
      All that matters is that you think of your Dad every time you look at the watch.. and dont forget to smile.

      It's never too late to track down the watch you sold. I've been in a similar position, and I did exactly that. Located the watch and paid more than marked for it, but I got it back.

      That's funny I got a datejust from my father too, although I didn't receive it from his passing it still means a great deal to me and I don't think anything could ever push me to sell it. My advice would be attempt to track it down, if you sold it through ebay its very easy to track down the purchaser. All the best!

    Very true and relatable story . My experiences with guitars as well but when you love them nothing else matters. Now I feel as if, with watches anyway, I feel like I’m getting the pieces I’ve always wanted, finally at the tender age of 58! Yep you have to wait that long before we’re all mature enough to make the right decisions on watches or anything.

  • @ryanmiller923
    @ryanmiller923 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Good stuff, as usual... it's refreshing to know that others have had similar experiences... to commiserate, haha!.. If you enjoy collecting watches, then you likely either already had or will have that regretful purchase or selling of a watch. Unfortunately, it's often just part of the process... Thanks for sharing your experiences!

    I bought my year 2000/2001 14060 Submariner some time ago. It’s one of the very last produced before Rolex upgraded it to the 14060M. I recommend this particular model no-date two-liner Sub to anyone looking for the perfect mix of new and old Submariner. After 17 years and no service it runs within one second. Amazing.
    I bang it around and I enjoy every single “battle scar” it get’s. It’s the perfect “every occasion” watch and it’s tough as nails. A Sub isn’t meant to be pampered like it’s a £40.000 Patek Philippe. They are tough watches and they look better for every scratch.
    Now if I scratch my GMT Master 16700 from 1991 I’m in a bad mood for a week.
    Thanks for a very nice channels and a good regrets-video.
    Best regards from Denmark.

    My biggest regret is selling my Omega AT8500 "Skyfall" ... Owned it for about a year and just got caught up in this crazy hobby of buying/selling/trading. I absolutely loved that watch and compared to Omega's lineup today, it's a stunner. My wife even says I'm stupid for ever selling that watch ... You rarely see them pop up on forums for sale (at least around me).
    Wish I just would have kept it in a safe because I think it will be looked at as a gem later down the road, especially since it was produced for a limited time - that is vertical teak dial, frame window, etc.

    Love my Explorer 2. It's a 2009 Polar with the engraved Rehaut and 3186 movement which I purchased back in 2014 after searching long and hard for a BNOS example. Interestingly no one has ever noticed it or commented on it in the 4 years I have owned the watch other than a chap in a jewellery shop. Certainly no ladies when I have been buying coffee 😁. Maybe I need to find a new coffee shop!

    This was a reminder of my past regrets which I'm sure everybody has had at some point in time. I sold my Rolex GMT, Rolex Submariner(cyclops date window) and my Omega Moonwatch. I've been enjoying my Seikos and Hamilton Khaki King and can live without a Rolex but I hope to get the Moonwatch again and feel this one's a keeper for its historical significance.

    I can relate! Years ago I used to flip Omegas in and out all the time, I’d buy Seamasters and Speedmasters, wear them a while, fancy something else, flip them and move on to the next watch. I found a great Speedy Pro on the famous auction site with moments left on the auction, it was a great price and I made a snap decision to buy it and did. Like you, I won the auction with miles to spare. When the watch arrived it was a Speedy reduced and I was absolutely deflated. I flipped it the following week, thankfully only losing a few quid and resolved to do nothing in haste on eBay again!

    Nice history Adrian, the watches you let go brought you to your current collection. Which is a great one.
    I sold once my Breitling SOH I and got myself the avenger. I love the avenger Chrono but with the SOH II I think I one day like to get that one Back. Got lots of compliments for the SOH I ...
    Why you getting a Fuji camera again? Maybe you check out a 80 D which is great for Fotos and videos, might suit your purpose well.
    But you can take with the Fuji real food Fotos that’s true. The g7x MII is great for vids but not too great for Fotos, right?
    Cheers, Konstantin

    I can relate. Been umming and arring about a 14060 for about 4 years, always thinking they are too pricey, but then constantly seeing them go up and feeling like i've missed the boat. Been seriously considering an Explorer 2 polar like yours for the same reasons really. I feel like the longer i wait, the more expensive it gets......

  • @khronokraze
    @khronokraze 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Good story. For myself, I can say I've been there, but the outcome was different. Meaning I've sold watches I've really enjoyed in the past, and fairly recently through the past year I've bought back a number of them. But, in the end, I ended up selling again and REALLY said I'm done with that (or those) particular watch(es).
    To avoid buying regrets and selling ones, one must honestly think to himself if it's really something you want or an impulse buy. BUT, a lot of times you have to buy the watch in person and on the wrist to honestly guage whether it really is something you REALLY like AND will keep or not. And, sometimes the watch you didn't think would make as much of an impact ends up being something that you might end up really liking.
    I love Fujifilm. Had an X100 before myself. I would get another in the latest X100F, But, I already have an X-Pro2 and I prefer the ability to change lenses with that rangefinder style of digital camera. So many nice lenses from Fuji, too. But, I have sold all buy one Fujinon lens and the rest are either adapted vintage or modern relatively inexpensive manual lenses from China. Don't know them. They make surprisingly great glass for very affordable prices. Not optically pure, but so much of what makes a good photo rarely relies on pixel perfect sharpness and rendition.

    The mistakes we make along the way in this hobby tell us about ourselves. My two Rolexes are now (and I hope, finally and forever!) a 2002 Explorer 2 16579 (polar) and a Submariner 5513 of 1987, a late one with acrylic crystal, a "holes" case and white gold dial markers.

    My biggest watch regret and this may get me in trouble is the Black Bay Fifty Eight. I waited so many months on a waitlist and when it finally came round all love was somewhat lost. I am also a university student with a bit more of a sporty vibe and I think it was a little too vintage to fit in with my everyday look.
    My biggest love is the black submariner w/date, I got really lucky and was only on a waitlist for about 4 weeks and literally just got it "today" and I can't see myself with anything better!

    Biggest regret was buying a Heuer Bund 1550sg non 3H dial at a auction. I really wanted the 3H dial version but I got outbid. I settled for the non 3H version. Should have been patient and held out for the watch I wanted. The kicker is that the watch I got was in need of a lot of service work, so in the end I ended up spending more money then if I just bought the Heuer Bund 3H dial version on Chrono24.

    You said you were looking for an everyday watch you could bash about. Me too!
    I have an Alpinist which has fit that bill for a few years but looking to get hold of something a bit more special.
    Would you say a black bay 36/41 would be every day bash about worthy? (I like to enjoy my watches and not baby them, and want to keep up that tradition even when I start spending a bit more)

    I don't really have any regrets with any watches I have bought but many regrets with some I have let go of. GO senator chronometer, PP 5960, JLC reverso manual wind 8 day power reserve are 3 that I wish I still had, many I have traded because I needed cash, but some just bad decisions that I have to learn from. Still have a collection I am happy with, always a work in progress, agree with comment below that the watch addiction is great and frustrating at the same time. Really enjoy your videos.

    Rushing into getting my first “luxury” timepiece. I’m a young man and purchased a longines legend diver thinking I’d be satisfied because it was Swiss and I could afford it. Every review said this watch was too large for what it was and as a result it’s for sale and I have a Tudor black bay 36 on the way!

    Hey - great video, just subbed, great content.
    I do have a question - im new to premium watches, love Omega but don't want to make the wrong choice on two fronts. Firstly as an investment, and secondly, buying new over used. I have a budget of about £3.5k, love the Seamaster 300M 2018 black with black rubber. would love yours and any others opinions.

    • @BarkandJack
      @BarkandJack  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks so much for subbing.
      Have you checked out Tudor yet? Their black bay range is amazing. Especially their Black Bay 58. It would leave you with nearly £1k change as well.

      If you want an investment piece, then an old black bay with the ETA movement would be a good choice.

      Bark and Jack thanks for the reply. Love the look of Tudor range and familiar with their pedigree - I think I’d always be regretting not holding out for a full on Rolex if I had one. Also, when you say old - what date range do you suggest? Thanks!

    I bought a 2 tone Datejust back in the 80s. Had it for about 10 years but had to sell it for financial reasons. Always regretted selling it. Fast forward February 2019. I just bought a 2 tone Rolex Datejust. Now I've come full circle and content.

      Hey Paris, glad you like the channel. Do you mean the 14060m? I think an explorer would be a better fit for that collection. The 14060 would be too close to the Seamaster and blackbay. That being said, I do love the 14060.

    My biggest regret was buying the Omega Speedmaster Mid-Siize, I wanted a speedmaster and rushed out and bought the mid size when I wanted the full fat version. I did get one a week later in the James Bond 40th anniversary special edition and I still have both of them. I am now looking for a Bronze watch but I cannot make my mind up on which.

    I love the 5513 but I dont know in my opinion the Explorer II is a watch that I always think about when I see your Videos. I think it would be super cool to own a Explorer and a Explorer II. You can rename the channel to Explorer & Jack then 😄

    This and Federico are my favourite watch channels... Adrian, what's the long term plan??

    • @BarkandJack
      @BarkandJack  6 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      Thanks buddy. Short term plan = launch some awesome nato straps. Wait a couple of months to build capital. Medium plan = launch some incredible leather straps made in England. Long term plan = sell watches and deliver insanely good customer service.
      Over arching vision = be an outlet of watch news, watch opinions, watch accessories and watches WITHOUT any pretentious BS.
      The dream is to open a coffee shop / watch shop in London.
      I’ve not shared that plan before.

    Hi Adrian. I've been following your channel since, well almost the beginning and have grown to enjoy the content immensly, but most of all respect and trust your opinion. Can you help me decide? I've been looking to purchase my first Rolex, initially I was certain the Explorer 1 but my wife said, for 5k I should be looking for a watch that looks stunning. The obvious choice was the Submariner Hulk, but when I saw retail 7k, inflated to 10k plus, I could not reconcile the extra 4k for a used watch. So now I'm considering the 116622 Yacht-Master,Rhodium dial, in my opinion a stunning piece with a case that seems to flow around the wrist. My question, can you give me any reason why I should not go ahead and purchase the Yacht-Master and perhaps consider a different Rolex? Keep up the good work, always looking forward to your next edition. Steve

      Caution from experience: Recognize that, over time, when she snaps and starts more carefully monitoring your watch purchases, each one will now cost at or near twice as much.
