      Howdy Jess, Jim, and Peter. Your progress is amazing. That’s a lot of work and the heat is unbearable at times but you guys keep pushing it. Great job how is Crew doing? I see UV is helpful with her moral support. Hope all is well and blessings to you all.

    FYI: Barb wire suggestion.
    When working below the barb wire roll, place it to roll off the bottom.
    When working above the barb wire roll, place it to roll off the top.

    I'm glad to see you are feeding the hummingbirds but since you have red feeders you do not need to put any red food dyes in your white sugar food mix. It is actually not real good for them. I have 5 feeds set up for the past 3 years in Apache County, AZ that are mainly red with some yellows & over 2 dozen birds love them. Love your place & you 2 inspire me on our homestead.

    Jessica Jim and Peter. The prime directive: don't get injured, don't get hurt, don't get sick, don't get discouraged. Who built these domes? The Domesteaders. Building back better and stronger. Bagging and cobbing higher and higher. Congratulations, keep on after it y'all.

    Way to go guys! I really enjoyed all of the insect clips and I.D. with them. I have some of the same species here on my property. Hope this is a helpful tip. Re: your hummingbird feeders use only nectar/sugar water that has no red dye at all. The biological reason is that hummers have such a small body there is some concern that the dye makes them not feel well or affects them. Primarily they focus on the red flowers to draw them in not the color of the liquid. Having sold literally several hundred hummer feeders at the nature shop I worked at for 10 years this is always great info to pass on. Always love the bird clips. Great to see those walls going up! - Neighbor Don

    @missannthrope365 ปีที่แล้ว +19

    Jess, please consider not using the hummingbird solution with the red dye. Plenty of info about it and how it causes illness in the creatures who ingest it. You can make your own solution instead. 😊

    Mr. Crew is such a beautiful boy. I hope he is doing better. UV and him need to be better friends. I love it that Crew is always going to be a part of this house build with Jess adding his fur to her Cobb mix. UV needs to get to shedding too! hahaha. Shave some of Jim and Peter's hair and add it to the mix. Can't hurt. Great progress was made!!

    It sure looks like the guerilla cart is the way to go. Good thinking. Keep your back safe.
    Suggestion: I encourage you to build a ring beam as the final course of your bag wall. Drive 36' long 1/2 round rebar down through your bags every 12-16 inches leaving 6" exposed on top. Then tie horizontal rebar to each vertical rebar. Form up a 12" wide by 6" high concrete form and fill it up with cement. You won't have any problems with your roof or walls moving with a rebar reinforced ring beam in place. 😊

    Jess, you do not have to put red dye in the hummingbird water they will come to it without it. I have heard that the dye is bad for the birds. In fact I used to add the dye until I found out you shouldn't add it. Just a thought. You guys are really rocking it on walls

    Once the outer walls are done I would place concrete slabs on the perimeter of the top. Make a support beam of 2x10 wood to span the diameter of the root cellar. The beam should be in my opinion be 3 of the 2x10 beams glued together and bolted together. The beam making the diameter then can support roof trusses to further carry the roof load. The water proofed roof can more then be supported by the ridge beam and roof trusses

    Trust me from someone who’s having back problems. I have a inverted table that I hang upside down from. I do it in the morning and in the evening. For about 15-30 minutes. But I’ve worked myself up to that amount of time. My doctor says not to do it that it’s hard on my heart, but the back relief is more important to my life. Meaning I am not bedridden. I’m able to do things that I wasn’t able to do when my back was hurting.

    You need two wheels on the front of your wheel barrow, much safer and easier to manage. I think you just need a longer axle and a second tire. Check at Lowe’s or Home Depot.
