I have great respect for Chief Emeka Anyaoku for the services he rendered to our beloved country throughout his career. However, I would like him to recall the number of constitutional conferences we had in this country and which of the outcomes the politicians respected? As at today each state in Nigeria is a mini country of its own, the state governor as their president and chief security officer without interference from the Federal Government. The question is what have they done to their people economically/ socially to improve the wellbeing of their people in the past 25 years of solid democracy. Look at the amount of resources put into each state for the development of their respective states and you would be disappointed with the level development on ground. One would never be comfortable with the volume of resources invested and the outcome.
Every Nigerian citizen knows very well that there is nothing wrong with constitution other the corruption, nepotism and outright irresponsibility in the management of the economy on the part of those who claimed to be our leaders. It’s only in Nigeria that leaders will set aside the constitution and decide on fundamental constitutional issues by using committee recommendations. This a disrespectful to the constitution of the federal republic of Nigeria.
No matter how many times we change our constitution, as long as we are not respecting the constitution we still go in circles.
I still believe that what most Nigerians are clamoring for is regionalization as if this will solve all our problems. We were told if we create geopolitical zones the problems will be mitigated, we created zones but we still remained with our problems. It will be the same as long as we don’t address the main problem and instead keep on addressing symptoms.
Yes Chief Anyaoku has given a good trial but I was thinking he knows Nigeria’s problems far better than many who followed him to see Mr. President.
Chief Anyaoku should not succumb to pressure and affirm to shadow chasing of another constitutional conference instead of telling them clearly to shun corruption and manage the economy.

On this suggestion of getting 3 representative from each state of the federation will still marginalized the Igbos because where all other regions will have 18 to 21 representatives, only the Igbo region will have 15 representatives. That will not work. Therefore, the representatives should be drawn base on 6 geo-political zones.

    • @OmoIbadan2

Yes, the constitution simply needs to be revised to devolve more responsibility to the governors. Right now, the president is more like a king with all the powers.
The problem though is not the constitution or the nigerian system. Whatever you change it to the nigerian people and the nigerian politicians will still be the same which is where the real problem lies.
Until we as a people are re-oriented, the same problem of corruption and reckless behaviour will continue.
The problem with nigeria is decent citizens.
USA has more diverging ethnicities, religious and belief system than Nigerian, yet the system work.
The reason for this is because the founding fathers were passionate about their country. It wasn't "emissions lokan" They were willing to die for it which some did. They also ensured that no one is above policies, laws and systems.
Nigeria and USA and India share the same government style. Yet it does not work for Nigeria. This is because every citizen is willing to bypass systems and bypass laws because it does not apply to them.
We can keep fooling ourselves about changing the constitution! We will be changing it forever and achieve little!
We also talk too much and do very little. The drive for Western education and Christianity has destroyed us!

Nigerians support this. Its the way forward for the country. Nigeria needs a rebirth, an overhaul cos the system is messed up.
Lets push for an Interim National Govt headed by someone of repute like Pa Anyaoku; with him at the head, Nigerians will come together and decide on a people orientated Constitution, not the one the military gave us. That one is not working cos the Presidential system is too expensive for a developing country like Nigeria
Cost of governance should be reduced so most of our resources can be spent on the people whom it rightfully belongs to, not these greedy wicked politicians who steal everything and leave crumbs for the people.
    Nigerians have had enough; there's no going back now;
    We want our country back

@@princejohn-su5yr There would be no problem about Biafra's referendum, if the Igbo or South East would first agree to a referendum that allows the other groups they claim to be part of them to decided if they truly want to be part of Biafra. When that is done then the referendum for a Biafra Republic should be put to the test. That is my honest opinion
