System looks very nice. I am looking into Sony HAP-Z1ES too and probably Devialet amp to upgrade my set up. Hopefully shall be able to resurrect my Shanling SACD soon ( So hard to find good service for audio equipment nowadays ) and than I too wanna try different DACs :)
HAP-Z1ES is wonderful machine that I can't let go for neutral sound, quality build, function and features like everything upsampled to DSD, even Spotify sound great through Z1ES.

Also, would I benefit by adding one, I both an Audiolab 8300a amp with a Audolab 8300CDQ cd player which has a ESS Sabre32 9018 chip DAC. I can add something in the middle of the chain as the Audiolab amp has a power amp mode (& also pre too). I have Bowers 707s3 speakers. Will I benefit by adding anything, if so, where and how much of difference will there be?
The difference is always between your preference, your system and room. In terms of digital performance this one is in whole new levels, yes it can be used as Pre-DAC as I mentioned in the video, thanks

I noticed that after your PSVANE Horizon review with the X9, you seem to have switched back to the Muzishare stock tubes, except for the CV181s. Did you find that this combination of tubes gives the best results for the X9?
the chips / . new old stock td1541 are not available anymore./ doesnt matter today. it is the additional workaround,which impacts the sound quality. I recommend to concentrate on it for future tests. 😊😊
Bro please review the newly released Topping Centaurus R2R DAC , it’s a collab with Holo Audio - so a leader in R2R & a specs king. It has OS, NOS, auto sampling and 10 band PEQ, volume ctl etc. Sells for US1k. I think this might the one that hits all the right spots. The specs are crazy high S/N ratio , dynamic range , THD etc. Thanks in advance.
little bit of harshness in the Voice did you try that cat 5 cable yet??what about the120 ohm? that might sort it out. also you could try I did tell Thomas same with his amplifier, if you get a 0.22uF polystyrene capacitor and 220 ohm resistor in series on the connecting RCA plug, from the plus to minus, make it sound sweeter. don't forget to try those leads cat5 100 or 120 ohm. you could try the 022 but I think you need a 0.47.

I personally will never buy anything from smsl. Bought a headphone amp,2 weeks after return time started clicking. No stateside repair for warranty. You have to ship back to China on your dime. Not worth it, overseas shipping is not cheap.

Then tell the people that DACs don't make such a big difference but it's the speakers that matter. These DAC reviews with the same repeated phrases are really tiring. Just an easy way to make money. Reflect how many smsl reviews you did. Ridiculous. My expérience is -6db is fine and linear fast is only one filter that has holographic and detailed sound stage. All other filtres have less détail and are blurring the sound stage. Maybe some like nos filter because they listen without digital headroom and nos is the only one that cannot have digital clipping.
They should make simple dac like su1 with -6db digital headroom and linear fast lilter without screen and desactivate USB and bluetooth when not in use to have les emi. It would sound the best.

I enjoy both tubes but as of right now I'm using mostly stock tubes except CV181 for keeping it close to original sound, thanks

Tone controls should be implemented on the integrated amp, not on the DAC.
SMSL RAW Pro-DAC1, an affordable masterpiece, I think you should look up the dictionary what is the meaning of masterpiece is.
