It makes for a more interesting plot when you can't just minmax your way into an easy victory, and it makes sense from a lore perspective. He's backed by the most powerful megacorp either side of the pacific, he's not gonna lose to some streetscum!

In Ghost in the Shell Arise, there's a great logical extension of the concept: at one point Section 9 manages to take down a Navy SEAL, and his buddy comes to evacuate his wounded comrade. Rather than trying to drag the whole 1000lbs full body combat chassis back with him, he hits a lever and just ejects the undamaged cyberbrain enclosure complete with life support from an armoured portion of the chest. That way he can carry the brain home in a bag.
Tbf this is a function for every cyborg in GitS, the major for example doesn't really have her mind tied to her body as in every itteration she does body to body transfer or dual body control i nthe case of SAC in the hospital... Although its also established this is more likely down to her having no attachment to a physical body unlike most cyborgs since she became one so earlynin life
You wouldn't believe me... But that's how it also works in 77! Full Cyborgs are basically "brains-in-jar", which connected to the cybernetic frame. And they can change them by simply removing their biopod and putting it in another frame. Adam Smasher, for example, also has a spare Gemini body, that looks like an Elvis lookalike.

I really hope the Cyberpunk videogame gets a sequel, where the executives actually let CD Project Red spend as much time as they want making it. That way they can more accurately depict this amazing world.

There are so many things not yet covered in the game. There are bio-wares & exotics too that still not covered by the game mechanics. Only one character in the game that has exotics (looking like crocodile), while the lore has "natural" extremists that very much hate borgs, despite using biowares.
To note the more a person chromes/borgs out the higher they risk going cyberphyco so remember kids just because V and Adam Smasher never went off the rails doesn’t mean you won’t, it’s all about where you put your stats point into
Okay that's not completely accurate, You can actually get some extremely expensive cerebral augmentations and software that completely prevent cyber psychosis, this is why the rich never goes cybercycle even though they replace a crap tone of their body with cyberware, And why MaxTAC can recruit former cyber psychos and prevent them from going cyber psycho ever again. The reason so many solos and Merks go cyber psycho is because they either don't have the resources and connections to get the augmentations or like David and Main They don't realize or accept they are going cyber psycho until it's way too late. I mean let's remember that both David and Main were legally Borgs By the time they went psycho, their resistance was incredible but this is also why they got blindsided so badly by psychosis. They both definitely had enough money to afford the maxTAC or corporate security cerebral upgrades and software to prevent cyberpsychosis but they just didn't realize they could even be affected by it.

The main point is, unless you're a psychopath, with no emotion, trauma in life is what causes cyberpsychosis, not augments themselves. If you had/have a stress-free life, there's little chance of going psycho. Also, MaxTAC are not going cyberpsycho, because they were already cyberpsychos, with their memories wiped. No tragic past, no going murderblender.

I mean Adam was a complete psychopath before he even became a brain in a metal case so ofcourse getting Cyberphycosis wouldn't do much and well he does have the protection of Arasaka on him so he can do pretty much all he wants aslong as Arasaka is willing to go withe it If he did ever go completely nuts tho i don't think there would be much that could stop him considering he survived being in the direct vicinity of a nuke going off

@@jdog2525Its supposed to help him maintain his psyche functional, as Arasaka (the company) fears that Adam could go cyberpsycho. Adam doesn't like to use the body too much because of what it means to "put it on" and thinks of it as a pretty toy that's basically useless. He also developed a relationship with one of Arasaka's granddaughters while on the Elvis body, which apparently ended up in terribly wrong terms and since then Adam uses the Gemini way less.
Going full Borg in Cyberpunk explicitly isn’t an upload, your brain still exists. Now obviously Smasher’s is augmented and heavily cyberized, but he’s still got one.
Would be cool to see some of these in the Cyberpunk 2077 DLC, the Brimstone model could make for a really interesting boss fight if you give him a flame thrower or something similar
@@nickelion1760that isn't quite the same over time thing as shadowrun. 2077 cyberpsychosis starts when you start to overload your brain with cyberware, and is manageable unless you continue to add more. eventually your mind is overloaded and you become a cyberpsycho. shadowrun has it so a cyborg body will just drive you insane from the get-go and onwards.

Having played both systems since they started, they are very similar in this trope. However, SR lost its premiere status after 4E. Cyberpunk has always been more violent and graphic. Weisman and company have done well by their IP in video game form but the ttrpg has severely gone downhill. Pondsmith took forever to finally get his vision made into a video game and after the early debacle, it has proven to be much closer to its source material than most of the HBS SR games.
The biggest flaws in these designs is that they cling to humanity. They try so hard to remain as bipedal primates that they neglect the true possibilities of cybernetic enhancement. If you wanted to be a death machine you’d probably want to be a quadrupedal robot with 360° vision and a massive variety of weaponry on all sides.
the issue with that is that bipedalism actually is insanely useful to our species. bipedal walking is the most efficient way to walk on land, lends itself to a small frame and form factor, and gives height and flexibility that is unobtainable for quadrupeds
being a pilot with the wingman gull body robotic replacement would be badass. strength means nothing when you are speed above speed. you are untouchable
Honestly, kitting out in full cyborg doesn’t sound half bad. Having every physical and mental advantage as well as hyper versatility and modifiability in the crime and corruption ridden world of cyberpunk has its perks. But i’d need to be quite wealthy to even consider it, because it would need some high level ICE encryption to be able to live long enough to use it before you get zero’d by some runner that wants you as scrap. Plus at that point I wouldn’t need to worry too much about psychosis, yes my humanity is basically at zero. But since it’s just my brain left I can avoid psychosis by having failsafes in place that tricks the brain into avoiding using psychosis as a coping mechanism by reducing its response to stress and trauma. And if that doesn’t work, i’ll trust my will and my empathy stat to carry me through. Does this sound absolutely insane and dystopian? Yes. But it’s also in the dystopian context of Cyberpunks world. If this was real I wouldn’t trust it even a little bit.
Honestly, you don't even need all that complicated failsafes to trick your brain. Its already mandatory for all borgs to have daily therapy sessions to keep their sanity in check, which includes switching to the Gemini body once in a while, or using Brain Dances to relive what its like to be human again. You dont even need to worry about the costs, cuz you'd need a corporation to fund you with money to turn into a borg, so you'd bet they'd also fund money into making you stay relatively sane so their resources won't be for waste.
The Oni is a ACPA (Assisted Combat Personnel Armor), a Power Armor. Not only was Smasher in full-borg Dragoon Frame, he has a Power Armor on top of that when fighting Blackhand during Arasaka 2023 nuke.

I don't remember reading about Adam getting a "Modified" Dragoon model.. If you are going by RtG story, then you'd know, after replacing pieces at a time, he eventually went Both in a Sampson model (minus the tools).. Now, for the video game.. idk.. his black body looks nothing like a Dragoon.. His 2077 body has forward flexion knees.. the Dragoon had backward flexion, like a dog, deer, elk..etc,etc.. I started playing this game with the original "Black Box" that I bought in 1990.. After the "Firestorm" books, we tried 3rd.. but it was a wash for us.. then no more CP literature..

V was dying due to the relic rewiring his brain in an invasive way, and borgs still need the "pilot's" brain to operate, so it wouldn't have changed anything. Only way he/she could've survived is by going to a really, really, REALLY top tier surgeon who could maybe find a way to remove the relic without killing him/her, but going by the story of the game (and not the gameplay, cus V is basically inmortal outside of the main plot, pussies of CD Red not implementing a time limit XD) he really couldn't afford to search for one.

Not exactly. There isn't an FBC that's specific to anthropomorphic modifications. Those are mentioned as "Packages", which are essentially a bunch of Chrome mods that help you achieve a desired look. Think of it as extreme plastic surgery, since they're on the more "organic" end. Technically speaking you can make a custom FBC look as you desire, but there aren't ones specific to that look.
The best would be a body like the Gemini that retains the original appearance of the subject (or even enhances it, making you look like a model), coupled with a wearable suit of armor that fully integrates into the body's systems.
You would assume they already have a protection system built in their body that could intercept any oncoming missiles headed towards them if they have a robotic body built for combat. I think it would be easier to incapacitate by attacking the software or whatever augments they have in their brain via hacking or some other computer shit. If their body is that augmented, I’m sure the inside of their brain has some augmentation as well.
Anyone who thinks the dragoon is peak power has ignored the DAI ONI (And yes, you are put inside a Dai-Oni just the same as any other borg body, it IS a full borg kit)

Makes sense to have a whole bunch of more specialised body types, not every form fits every task. Having a massive heavy work body might get in the way of tasks requiring nimble and precise movement ect.
I actually went Dragoon from the start in a short campaign I played with some friends. Basically story was we would eventually work up to killing the president of the NC branch of Arasaka. The twist was that I was actually the final boss. Luring in anti corpo edgerunners to kill for the amusement of the president. It ended with the party dead, no one really rememberung them after a week (so no drinks at Afterlife) and my character approaching a new set of edgerunners just like I did to them at the start of the campaign.
As much as i like these designs, i found a problem with the Wingman model. As cool as the concept of a robot fighter pilot is, it’s less practical then you’d think. When you want to outmaneuver your enemy, theres many factors, and reaction time is one of them, but there’s another thing they’re missing. Just because you can clamp down on your airbrakes, shove your throttle to zero and crank your stick all the way back and left in a fraction of a second for a supersonic Kvochur’s bell (or cobra maneuver) doesn’t entirely mean the aircraft is gonna obey you that fast. Your flaps, rudders and elevators can only move so fast, and your velocity vector is still gonna carry you a good bit. And there’s also inescapable problems with jets that not even cyberpunk tech can fix. All the stealthyness or manuverability in the world cannot help you when you run out of missiles and cannon rounds. But there is lots that tech can fix. Humans can only focus on their MFDs or flying. Not both at the same time. And they can’t chart a course to the next objective and fire an A2G missile simultaneously. Plus I could see how robot pilots would fix these problems while aircraft technology goes to Ace Combat levels. Go on, do that funky backwards post stall through a tunnel. Because fuck physics. And also no blood for no G-LOC, and even Mihaly or Trigger is gonna have a hard time outmaneuvering you.
That's micro-scale thinking. Make one video as perfect as it can be or else you're lazy. Macro-scale for me is putting out 1-2 videos every single day that are of a quality high enough to my standards-all while allowing me to have time with my family and other things I enjoy. Content that gets over 14 million views a month. If you think that's lazy, then I don't envy you.
Mininum Empathy Score of 8, rolling well on Humanity Loss, and then Therapy, lots of Therapy for everything but the Dragoon, for the Dragoon? You're either drugged until you're a robot with meat assisted software, or you are Adam Fucking Smasher.
Anti-cyberpsychosis therapy is mandatory when undergoing full borg conversion and even then you need a very high empathy stat to retain your sanity. Shaitan would be a good example of this.
It's pretty much inevitable, even the lower ones like the Gemini have 20d6 humanity loss and the Dragoon is like 50d6. Therepy can only do so much and the Dragoons are kept offline (they have a cylinder where are the fleshy bits are stored.) in smaller borgs' because of how unstable they are. Also these borgs' are NOT cheap, we're talking hundreds of millions of Eddie's, so they're pretty much in the hands of the big corps. If you are an edge runner encountering these boys and girls you've A) pissed off one of the big ten and your fucked choomba or, B) the borg' has gone rouge and is off their leash...and you're fucked choomba.
This isn't even going into the insanity of the Dai Oni frame. The person is more a jockey that reins in the hyper-efficient murderous AI from attacking frendlies. Adam also apparently rawdogged that frame like with the Dragoon.
If I recall correctly one way these things get around cyberpsycosis is that you still have all your organs and quite a bit of your bones, kinda like just replacing your flesh and limbs your still about 40% there so more people survive the process.
you only need oxygen and food support to the brain. the wrest can go away. put the live brain into a high tech jar. then put that jar into a robot or control room, suited for one individual brain. at least... if you wanted to go all cyborg without the down side. it will just be one Hell of a pain to get those changes done. maybe physical therapy too, since changes like that can harm the brain on a physical level.
@@absolstoryoffiction6615 Yes that is accurate, but I imagine if you would want to avoid the high chance of cyber psycosis, and allow the users of these bodys to eventually return to somewhat normal bodys, retaining as much of their origional body as possible would be the goal. This way even if they have to get a fully synthetic outer 'shell as it were' they would still be slightly more human. This way you retain all the great features of the human body, it can eat sleep, regenerate cells, and has its intact cell production and immune system, bones produce blood and white bloodcells, kidneys filter blood, and they can still enjoy alchohol, you would only need to exchange the body/head unit into another shell and presto new form.

Assuming, if your body doesn't reject the implants. Arms, legs, eyes, heart, and most internal organs etc. Organs such as the tongue is mainly there for cosmetic reasons, such as taste. It's a pleasure to have it but one can live without it. Cyber Psychosis has to deal with the brain, so anything which can tax the brain can lead to cyber psychosis. I don't believe a basic Arm Unit is enough to induce Cyber Psychosis. And last I checked. In the TTRPG, Cyber Psychosis is mind control. Clearly, in the Cyberpunk world, the designs are faulty on purposes. True Robotic Technology mended with human flesh/DNA has no such weaknesses but even that has its limits, if you believe in Death. The line between Human and Machine is blurred if one understands Existence rather than the morality of Death. Leave the old flesh, inevitably, and be incarnated upon a new form. If only, the brain was easily assimilated by Cyber Genetic DNA rather than to be recorded in a Data Base. That is true transference... One path among many.
I’m honestly glad the game and anime didn’t have many of these. It would have taken me out too much and made the technology too out there. Also it makes it more shocking or impressive when you see people who are basically full cyborg like Smasher and (SPOILERS PHANTOM LIBERTY) songbird.
Before the game came out, i wondered if we would get to see some full cyborgs or spliced humans from the tabletop but wasn’t really surprised that we didn’t.
the thing with smasher is that his system is effectively the equivalent of the race car while the base line is road legal homologation basically he got a base model and with arasaka money upgraded it to the point of it basically being 1/1

And there are even more in other supplements, like the Burroughs for extraterrestrial planetary exploration (namely Mars), the Spyder for peak stealth effectiveness (even moreso than the Eclipse), the Sheol for radiation and other hazardous environments, the Wiseman for optimised netrunning capabilities, and the Kildare for medtechs who take their jobs way too seriously.

Okay that's not completely accurate, You can actually get some extremely expensive cerebral augmentations and software that completely prevent cyber psychosis, this is why the rich never goes cybercycle even though they replace a crap tone of their body with cyberware, And why MaxTAC can recruit former cyber psychos and prevent them from going cyber psycho ever again.
The reason so many solos and Merks go cyber psycho is because they either don't have the resources and connections to get the augmentations or like David and Main They don't realize or accept they are going cyber psycho until it's way too late.
I mean let's remember that both David and Main were legally Borgs By the time they went psycho, their resistance was incredible but this is also why they got blindsided so badly by psychosis. They both definitely had enough money to afford the maxTAC or corporate security cerebral upgrades and software to prevent cyberpsychosis but they just didn't realize they could even be affected by it.

The main point is, unless you're a psychopath, with no emotion, trauma in life is what causes cyberpsychosis, not augments themselves. If you had/have a stress-free life, there's little chance of going psycho.
Also, MaxTAC are not going cyberpsycho, because they were already cyberpsychos, with their memories wiped. No tragic past, no going murderblender.

2077 cyberpsychosis starts when you start to overload your brain with cyberware, and is manageable unless you continue to add more. eventually your mind is overloaded and you become a cyberpsycho.
shadowrun has it so a cyborg body will just drive you insane from the get-go and onwards.

Having played both systems since they started, they are very similar in this trope. However, SR lost its premiere status after 4E.
Cyberpunk has always been more violent and graphic. Weisman and company have done well by their IP in video game form but the ttrpg has severely gone downhill.
Pondsmith took forever to finally get his vision made into a video game and after the early debacle, it has proven to be much closer to its source material than most of the HBS SR games.
The biggest flaws in these designs is that they cling to humanity. They try so hard to remain as bipedal primates that they neglect the true possibilities of cybernetic enhancement. If you wanted to be a death machine you’d probably want to be a quadrupedal robot with 360° vision and a massive variety of weaponry on all sides.

the issue with that is that bipedalism actually is insanely useful to our species. bipedal walking is the most efficient way to walk on land, lends itself to a small frame and form factor, and gives height and flexibility that is unobtainable for quadrupeds

Honestly, kitting out in full cyborg doesn’t sound half bad. Having every physical and mental advantage as well as hyper versatility and modifiability in the crime and corruption ridden world of cyberpunk has its perks. But i’d need to be quite wealthy to even consider it, because it would need some high level ICE encryption to be able to live long enough to use it before you get zero’d by some runner that wants you as scrap.
Plus at that point I wouldn’t need to worry too much about psychosis, yes my humanity is basically at zero. But since it’s just my brain left I can avoid psychosis by having failsafes in place that tricks the brain into avoiding using psychosis as a coping mechanism by reducing its response to stress and trauma. And if that doesn’t work, i’ll trust my will and my empathy stat to carry me through.
Does this sound absolutely insane and dystopian? Yes. But it’s also in the dystopian context of Cyberpunks world. If this was real I wouldn’t trust it even a little bit.
Honestly, you don't even need all that complicated failsafes to trick your brain. Its already mandatory for all borgs to have daily therapy sessions to keep their sanity in check, which includes switching to the Gemini body once in a while, or using Brain Dances to relive what its like to be human again.
You dont even need to worry about the costs, cuz you'd need a corporation to fund you with money to turn into a borg, so you'd bet they'd also fund money into making you stay relatively sane so their resources won't be for waste.

The Oni is a ACPA (Assisted Combat Personnel Armor), a Power Armor.
Not only was Smasher in full-borg Dragoon Frame, he has a Power Armor on top of that when fighting Blackhand during Arasaka 2023 nuke.

If you are going by RtG story, then you'd know, after replacing pieces at a time, he eventually went Both in a Sampson model (minus the tools).. Now, for the video game.. idk.. his black body looks nothing like a Dragoon..
His 2077 body has forward flexion knees.. the Dragoon had backward flexion, like a dog, deer, elk..etc,etc..

V was dying due to the relic rewiring his brain in an invasive way, and borgs still need the "pilot's" brain to operate, so it wouldn't have changed anything. Only way he/she could've survived is by going to a really, really, REALLY top tier surgeon who could maybe find a way to remove the relic without killing him/her, but going by the story of the game (and not the gameplay, cus V is basically inmortal outside of the main plot, pussies of CD Red not implementing a time limit XD) he really couldn't afford to search for one.

There isn't an FBC that's specific to anthropomorphic modifications.
Those are mentioned as "Packages", which are essentially a bunch of Chrome mods that help you achieve a desired look. Think of it as extreme plastic surgery, since they're on the more "organic" end.
Technically speaking you can make a custom FBC look as you desire, but there aren't ones specific to that look.
Usually those bodysculpting jobs are organic rather than cyberware, can still cause cyberphyscosis though funnily enough.

You would assume they already have a protection system built in their body that could intercept any oncoming missiles headed towards them if they have a robotic body built for combat. I think it would be easier to incapacitate by attacking the software or whatever augments they have in their brain via hacking or some other computer shit. If their body is that augmented, I’m sure the inside of their brain has some augmentation as well.

from the moment i realised the weakness of my flesh, it disgusted me
I actually went Dragoon from the start in a short campaign I played with some friends. Basically story was we would eventually work up to killing the president of the NC branch of Arasaka.
The twist was that I was actually the final boss. Luring in anti corpo edgerunners to kill for the amusement of the president. It ended with the party dead, no one really rememberung them after a week (so no drinks at Afterlife) and my character approaching a new set of edgerunners just like I did to them at the start of the campaign.
Adam Smasher actually pilots an IEC Dragoon in his 2077 appearence.
As much as i like these designs, i found a problem with the Wingman model. As cool as the concept of a robot fighter pilot is, it’s less practical then you’d think. When you want to outmaneuver your enemy, theres many factors, and reaction time is one of them, but there’s another thing they’re missing. Just because you can clamp down on your airbrakes, shove your throttle to zero and crank your stick all the way back and left in a fraction of a second for a supersonic Kvochur’s bell (or cobra maneuver) doesn’t entirely mean the aircraft is gonna obey you that fast. Your flaps, rudders and elevators can only move so fast, and your velocity vector is still gonna carry you a good bit. And there’s also inescapable problems with jets that not even cyberpunk tech can fix. All the stealthyness or manuverability in the world cannot help you when you run out of missiles and cannon rounds. But there is lots that tech can fix. Humans can only focus on their MFDs or flying. Not both at the same time. And they can’t chart a course to the next objective and fire an A2G missile simultaneously. Plus I could see how robot pilots would fix these problems while aircraft technology goes to Ace Combat levels. Go on, do that funky backwards post stall through a tunnel. Because fuck physics. And also no blood for no G-LOC, and even Mihaly or Trigger is gonna have a hard time outmaneuvering you.

Mininum Empathy Score of 8, rolling well on Humanity Loss, and then Therapy, lots of Therapy for everything but the Dragoon, for the Dragoon? You're either drugged until you're a robot with meat assisted software, or you are Adam Fucking Smasher.

Anti-cyberpsychosis therapy is mandatory when undergoing full borg conversion and even then you need a very high empathy stat to retain your sanity. Shaitan would be a good example of this.
It's pretty much inevitable, even the lower ones like the Gemini have 20d6 humanity loss and the Dragoon is like 50d6. Therepy can only do so much and the Dragoons are kept offline (they have a cylinder where are the fleshy bits are stored.) in smaller borgs' because of how unstable they are.
Also these borgs' are NOT cheap, we're talking hundreds of millions of Eddie's, so they're pretty much in the hands of the big corps. If you are an edge runner encountering these boys and girls you've A) pissed off one of the big ten and your fucked choomba or, B) the borg' has gone rouge and is off their leash...and you're fucked choomba.
This isn't even going into the insanity of the Dai Oni frame. The person is more a jockey that reins in the hyper-efficient murderous AI from attacking frendlies. Adam also apparently rawdogged that frame like with the Dragoon.
Ah yes, when someone breaths in smoke and the paramedics claim he is suffering from smoke installation 🤦♂️
If I recall correctly one way these things get around cyberpsycosis is that you still have all your organs and quite a bit of your bones, kinda like just replacing your flesh and limbs your still about 40% there so more people survive the process.
you only need oxygen and food support to the brain. the wrest can go away. put the live brain into a high tech jar. then put that jar into a robot or control room, suited for one individual brain.
at least... if you wanted to go all cyborg without the down side. it will just be one Hell of a pain to get those changes done. maybe physical therapy too, since changes like that can harm the brain on a physical level.
@@absolstoryoffiction6615 Yes that is accurate, but I imagine if you would want to avoid the high chance of cyber psycosis, and allow the users of these bodys to eventually return to somewhat normal bodys, retaining as much of their origional body as possible would be the goal. This way even if they have to get a fully synthetic outer 'shell as it were' they would still be slightly more human.
This way you retain all the great features of the human body, it can eat sleep, regenerate cells, and has its intact cell production and immune system, bones produce blood and white bloodcells, kidneys filter blood, and they can still enjoy alchohol, you would only need to exchange the body/head unit into another shell and presto new form.

Organs such as the tongue is mainly there for cosmetic reasons, such as taste. It's a pleasure to have it but one can live without it.
Cyber Psychosis has to deal with the brain, so anything which can tax the brain can lead to cyber psychosis. I don't believe a basic Arm Unit is enough to induce Cyber Psychosis.
And last I checked. In the TTRPG, Cyber Psychosis is mind control. Clearly, in the Cyberpunk world, the designs are faulty on purposes.
True Robotic Technology mended with human flesh/DNA has no such weaknesses but even that has its limits, if you believe in Death. The line between Human and Machine is blurred if one understands Existence rather than the morality of Death. Leave the old flesh, inevitably, and be incarnated upon a new form.
If only, the brain was easily assimilated by Cyber Genetic DNA rather than to be recorded in a Data Base. That is true transference... One path among many.
