@@DYLANMarkey-u9c It went fantastic! Interviewed with my congressman and both senators and received at least two nominations to each of the three main academies with 3 to USNA. They asked very similar questions to the ones he mentions. It wasn’t nearly as bad as I expected. Be able to answer all the questions in this video with personal stories like he mentions and you’ll be good!
Thank you, sir. My interview is in a few days. This was by far one of the best videos talking about the interviews. It helped so much, and I feel more confident for the weekend! Thank you again!
@vschumacherm They went great! I just got my senatorial nomination and am waiting on my nomination for the congressional. This video helped out pretty well by bringing up some important talking points.
interesting, i thought the interview would be done by the congressman. i also thought the congressional nomination was a bit of a rubber stamp. i didn't realize is was such a filter.
Hello Chevy, that is a common myth. The interviews are almost always done by an independent selection panel. Many districts have more applicants than slots, so they have criteria to determine the best! It may be the most intimidating interview of your life, so be prepared!
Chevy, to your earlier question, "is west point and usna still a place for elite academic students, or is it more for the elite athletes that have good academic qualifications?" The majority of students admitted are 1400+ SAT, 3.9+ gpa, and are leaders on their sports teams, school clubs, and community. You could make a case that the Service Academy admits are the most well-rounded young people in the country.
@@academyendeavors thank you for advice. I live in. Michigan, we probably don’t have as many cadets here perhaps as other states. Probably a good thing. I would rather get information from credible sources like yourself than perhaps a second hand account. Thanks again for your time and service.

Thank you, this video was very informative and makes me feel much more confident. I have my interview tomorrow. I have a quick question about Congressional nominations. Is the board that interviews you the group that officially decides whether you get a nomination, or is it the the Congressmen themself who chooses? Thank you again for this video
Typically the selection panel has decision making authority. Keep in mind there might be more people on the board than just those that interviewed you. They will all collaborate together to determine who gets the nominations, and the board may have a chair who has the final authority. The Member of Congress can insert themselves behind the scenes but that would be rare.
Thank you for your reply! By God's grace, I received a nomination from both of my Senators and my House Representative! Thank you for your video, the STAR framework was very helpful in making my interviews memorable. Happy holidays!
I'm an active BGO and during 2023 admissions training at USNA, admissions said that ALOs are prohibited from sitting on MOC panels. Best to check the primary source (USAFA Admissions). I have noted instances where BGOs, ALOs and FFRs interpret rules broadly! For Candiates, this doesnt matter as its not in their control.
If each of you could go back in time and speak to your younger self sitting in this very spot, what would each of you want him or her to know as you take this career path? How's THAT for a question to ask your interviewers? Hopefully it won't be a superficial answer. The path is frought with the highest of triumphs and the deepest of sorrows.
It very much depends on the competitiveness of the district, but typically 1200+ SAT and 26+ ACT are competitive. Our clients' goals are usually 1400+ SAT and 32+ ACT.
Just got out of my interview. This video helped so much!!! I’ll come back with updates.
Update: Got 2+ noms to usna, usafa , and West Point!

@@DYLANMarkey-u9c thanks man! Just got word of my appointment to USNA today. Hoping to hear from the others soon. USAFA is my top choice
For anyone looking at this in 2024, the limit is now 15 nominations per senator or congressman.
Thank you for the info!
Does this vary per each state?
@@richard38618 I don't think it is but you should look it up, I heard it at a west point admissions event in virginia

Correction: ALOs are prohibited by USAFA to be on MOC Nomination Panels.
Interestingly, they occasionally still sit on panels. Our candidates have told us so.

If a 990 SAT score won't get you a nomination then what SAT score would get you a decent chance?
It very much depends on the competitiveness of the district, but typically 1200+ SAT and 26+ ACT are competitive. Our clients' goals are usually 1400+ SAT and 32+ ACT.
So if you get a nomination you just got lucky. That's the bottomline.
