When I was 16 and 17, I would drive over to Caseyville IL to cut my Aunts 1/2 acre yard on a Snapper like Forest Gump drove. I’d come back the route of your video and think nothing of it. Today, I’d be nervous and have a firm grip on the wheel. It really brings back memories. I’d get off I-55 at Reavis Barracks Rd. Thanks for the ride!
I remember at one time, the interstate highway bridge was quadroplexed with 4 interstate routes - 44, 55, 64 & 70. I would be interested in collecting the sign that had showed that quadroplex.
This video was a big help. 12 years ago, I took the wrong exit and accidently went on the MLK bridge. I watched this video several times. When I went through St. Louis last week, This video helped me locate the right exit. Thank you for posting it.
@eluko79 Actually I-44 is newer in St. Louis City. It faced a bit of nimby pressure especially in the Italian-American neighborhood it split in part. The stretch you drove was finished by '67, PSB being the last link. The elevated part from downtown to what is now 44 split predates the interstate highway act by almost a year.
Great video. That is a nice view of Busch Stadium on the ramp to I-55 South. And we traveled the whole 273 miles between Memphis and St. Louis heading the other way and we filmed northbound on I-55. It looks like it was filmed in the morning, what day did you film?
@dvferyance Technically it does, I-44 ends on the PSB at the state line, and runs with 55. However, most of the signage evidence of this is on the SB 55 / WB 44 direction. If you're going the other way, you'll see an "I-44 Ends 1 3/4 miles" on EB 44 just before Jefferson, and 1.75 mi from there is the PSB.
The stretch from 2:40 to 2:50 runs parallel to the Missisippi River and is exposed to some hairy crosswinds.....not fun if you had to commute to work in a early 70s VW on a very windy day. (much younger then :)
I am always wishes for this dreaming on Interstate 55. I know this is really hard to get it. I don't doubt and care for the I-294 for the next original video made by Freewayjim and TheSolarcatcher Visit those! #AdlaiStevensonExpy. #TriStateTollway. and others, #KennedyMemorialTollway #VeteransMemorialTollway and #TriStateTollwayI94

Yeah my mom went to MLK Br to st Clair
It's usually a bit dangerous to accidentally get on a street named for Martin Luther King - from my experience in New Orleans, Denver & Portland (OR).

Excellent production, loved how you skipped ahead near the end, there isn't much to see on I-55 between I-270/255 and I-44, 5 big stars for this one!
Hi freeway Jim I like your videos
Freewayjim i like your videos too
This is totally cool! I travel this road many times. Although I take 44 West to Six Flags.. :-)
very nice video Luke! Saint Louis has some interesting freeways, did you shoot more videos in that area?
OH MY GOD YOUR MUSIC CHOICE YESSSS
Deadmau5 👍
This is a great idea.
@dvferyance In my I-44 video going east, the sign says I-55 North, but when I-70 relocates, I-44 will be extended further into Downtown.
I was on this highway back in april. I took I-70 in Indiana, then took a complicated route, to get to I-55, then I got off on Memorial Drive

Ah the memories...I went to STL almost a year ago...
Your videos get better and better!! Do you just travel a lot for fun and make them, or what?? Where do you get all the signs that come up??

We do not have 6-7 lines (or what it was) in Europe. xD More cars in the U.S I suppose. Great video! :D
@eluko79 It's debatable I suppose I-44 is mentioned there but if you are going east there is an end I-44 sign at I-55.
As someone who grew up in the area where you shot this video, I can provide you with a lot of I-55 history if you want.
WOW :)
I 55 is cool Interstate
