Daughter got to live there for 4 years going to school at ROSS University. Now that she is graduated we miss hearing about the adventures and discoveries that seemed to brighten our lives all the time, even though we had to experience it all 2nd hand. The Batik artistry is really first class and well worth looking into. I understand the lady who is the owner/artist is glad to take time to explain the process and share her wares.... ONE ON ONE. You just don't get that everywhere you go. And the colors are so rich and beautiful, most ladies will want several to use while visiting and also to share as a treasured gift to some very lucky friends. My wife did get to make the trip once and stayed for a month. She thought she would just sit around the apartment, but the girls got her involved in so much while she was there. There was boat trips on catamarans, hiking, Volcano top zip line rides, pristine beaches with crystal clear azure blue water, and even black sand beaches. Day trips are easy with good quality paved roads and highways. You may just want to walk the railroad to see another type of hike. There are standard tourist areas, but also a full rich culture of locals with their own unique way of life. Stop by a bar/restaurant on the beach, take in the unique, energetic and colorful dancers or go out for fine dining. It's all there for the curious adventure seeker. You just never know when the neighborhood cow will be at your window in the morning or someones pig will just wonder by looking for a free snack. You do have to keep an eye out for the monkeys, but not so much because of danger. The monkeys it seems have developed a taste for adult beverages, and they will seize any opportunity to share your Carib beer without permission. All just part of the real St Kitts experience. Just laugh it off and get a fresh drink. Once they get it, you won't get it back till they are done and likely drunk. You just can't make this stuff up. It's as strange, real and colorful as the rest of the island. Enjoy it. Please note that this is a very small nation with limited resources. There is an extremely limited budget for cleanup and repair of the infrastructure. If you visit, please show proper respect with regards to liter, leftovers and other debris. Leave the areas you use nicer than when you got there. The locals will appreciate you showing their home the respect it deserves. Enjoy, Enjoy, Enjoy!
I have been to St. Kitts 3 times and definitely is a place I would leave New York for. .. And along with Grand Cayman, St. Kitts is among my favorite destination of the more than 37 countries I have visited. Friends and family will tell you how much I love St. Kitts.
