    I love the way you teach! 'Who cares?' 'It's just crochet! For heaven's sake!' 'Joined in wholly matrimony!' 'There are no rules in crochet!' I would add there is no crying in crochet!

    Hi, I’m so glad you did a tutorial, I love your tutorials you show the stitches really well and you give awesome tips too, and I love your written patterns color coded and with adjustments as needed. Update: I just made this and your right I can adjust it to my preference, love this!! I made this a messy bun hat, I stopped after 2sets of decrease rows with last row the setup row. It’s beautiful thank you so much Margaret!!

    Dear Margaret: Thank You so much for sharing this pattern. It is so warm, and I love the texture. Most of all I did fudge!! I was afraid of running out of yarn. This was perfect as I did not need to buy any yarn to complete this project. This was fantastic, as I'm trying to use all my yarn I have before buying more yarn. (hmm...We'll see). The hat is perfect for our winters in the Windy City. Also, I appreciate your tips on how to do things. Lastly, I hope that you and your family are ,and will,stay healthy. Thanks again. Keep sharing xoxo

      Ha! I guess I AM weird! Basically, I don't bother with formality in my TH-cam videos, especially with tutorials! This is not a formal presentation on the Senate floor or anything! Hobbies should be easy and fun! Right?

      So glad you enjoyed it! I'm a firm believer in "learn, grow, change, evolve" so I totally understand! I tend to encourage people to look at other video teachers to see if there's an alternate technique or method that speaks to them better. That's the beauty of TH-cam. In the old days, we were stuck with the teacher in front of us and if we didn't get it... well, tough! Now we can seek out different people to help on the same topic and it makes a world of difference! We all have different learning styles so it makes perfect sense!

    I just want to say thank you so much for making this pattern I just finished a hat for my daughter, it only took me a couple of hours, and it fits her perfectly I have been searching and searching for the perfect hat and all the patterns I have bought they just didn’t measure correctly once I put it on her but this hat fit her perfectly the first time without having to rip out and I love the bead stitch I have also been looking for the perfect bead stitch hat so thank you so much I can’t wait to make more.

    • @margaret.olander
      @margaret.olander  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm so happy to hear that good news, Lakeisha! I've been making notes for a video on hat fitting because I think that's one of the biggest misconceptions in crochet... pattern designers lead you to believe that if you just follow their instructions, your hat will come out just as theirs did but there are many factors that affect the outcome. In the meantime, here's the playlist of my other tutorials which all address sizing: th-cam.com/play/PLV9cndFtR5BWJVUc-dQ277A2lhxmm5zvq.html (Note that the "Camel Stitch Slouchy" has a similar bottom-up construction if you like that one.)

    • @margaret.olander
      @margaret.olander  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm so glad, Linda!! There ARE people who would be critical of my attitude but in the end, this is just a hobby and hobbies are supposed to be enjoyable. We have enough pressures in our lives and we certainly don't need the fear of the "crochet police!" Ha! I think of fudging as important crafting SKILL! "How can I fix this so it will be as imperceptible as possible?!" It's all in the attitude!

    • @LGoodwillie
      @LGoodwillie 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Margaret Olander Oh I love your attitude!!! It’s much healthier than mine. I worry someone is going to notice I missed a stitch or added one to a project! How logical is that??!! Well, good! You've learned something about your gauge! Now that you know you crochet on the loose side, try going down a hook size before beginning a pattern. I have an average-loose gauge so if you're even looser than mine, you may need to go down TWO hook sizes! OR as you did in this pattern, you left out rows! Perfect problem solving, Irasema!

    Thank you for sharing this pattern. I recently completed a bead stitch scarf last week using double crochet. Must say I love your HDC sead stitch much better, as well as your HDC2TOG method. I'll be making a hat with your pattern to complement my scarf. What perfect timing..

    • @margaret.olander
      @margaret.olander  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's slightly more awkward to do with the HDC since you don't have as much height to work with but I do like the fuller, "squatty" look better! Like anything, once you figure out your technique, it becomes less awkward.

    Hi, the tutorial is good. Very clear, thanks much! I had a query. So you started with 19.5inches base. Half of that would be 9.75inches (after joining the ends). The height of the cap is 8.5-9inches. Or maybe it climbed up to 10inches during the final rounds. Either way, the finished cap should have looked squarish - going by the measurements. However, your cap looks tall and rectangle. How did that happen?? Mine ended up squarish.

    • @margaret.olander
      @margaret.olander  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmmm.... Let's figure out this mystery. Did I give the measurements of the finial projects? Not sure I did but I can see I made several of them longer than the 8.5-9 inches from the chart which is for a normal beanie (not slouchy in any way). Normal beanies ARE squarish... more equal in horizontal and vertical measurements when not on the head. BUT, if you want to shoot for a longer hat, you need to have a rough idea of the measurement you want before you start as explained here: th-cam.com/video/McyOfgxP8sY/w-d-xo.html You'll begin your decreases about 3 inches before you reach your desired height.

      Lucky you... one-stop shop for donations! No, mine doesn't want rags BUT there are specific places we can take them. For me, I'd have to drive through Atlanta traffic so there's no telling how long that would take me (45 min - 2 hrs) so it's not worth it when I have so many other uses for them. Did you see the viewer suggestion of free shipping of them to Marine Layer who makes new shirts out of them?? That was in my last video.
