Thank you for this pattern! I made a slight adjustment to the color changes only changing colors when you do the next front post dc. This gives even width stripes all the way around instead of thick and thin, just a personal preference! Couldn’t have done it without this video. Thanks again!

I must crochet VERY loosely! lol I made one by the original pattern and it was huge! I can't even follow any of the hat pattern tables, because mine are always way too big. I'm going to go down 2 hook sizes and see what happens! Thank you for this two-color version. They are gorgeous!
My first one was huge, too, and I've heard that a lot. (Actually, I think the designer must crochet tighter than average.) Give it a go and use the hat sizing chart for reference... especially for hat height!

This ol' hat is so tricky! Try going up a hook size or two OR adjust the pattern by starting with more stitches in the initial circle. You sort of need to think like an engineer!

That hat is adorable. A addi idea....I was making a long scarf on my addi professional..made a mistake before it was long enough..experimented with adding 6 inch v stitch borders on each end to get the length I wanted. Its neat

If it turns out that at the end of doing four rows of four dc than fpdc, my hat does not measure the width in which I need, would I continue on with five dc in same st then fpdc? If so, for how long? Would I just measure after each row to make sure it isn't too long. Or should I not do 4 rows but less.
Your measuring tape is your best tool here. Yes, if it's not wide enough, then make it wider with the 5 DC in the same stitch row and yes, keep an eye on the length. It may be that you should do fewer rows of 3DC and move onto 4DC sooner to get the width you need. Sizing this hat is all about trial and error! Remember, it's only yarn... you can rip and reuse!
Kim Loyer I made a swirl hat a while back and mine’s was a little snug. I’m going to make another one asap with the encouraging words I mentioned to you. I can let you know how mines comes out,and if u do urs within a matter of days,maybe u can let me know how urs,comes out as well. I hope I was helpful and ur welcome.

I have no idea! It depends on your yarn choice and ability to use a smaller hook with it. It's all trial and error! You may try a lighter yarn and smaller hook, too. Good luck... this is a tricky one to size!
The only thing I disagree with you on is the join around the 1st FPDC. I'm making a hat for my daughter in sparkling black & white. Don't know if it will look like a zebra or not but I think it'll be pretty. I wish there was a way to send you a picture of it.

I have done several of this style hat by following Jonna Martinez’ tutorial and love making them! I cannot wait to try to make one of yours.

Kim Loyer I think u can use a bigger needle to make it stretched out and try not to crochet so tightly as well.

Is it possible at all to make this into a round afghan by adding more increase stitches but continue the 2-color stripe??

Would switching the hook down half a size only when starting/ending a row decrease the thickness of the seam? Or maybe attempting a standing stitch?
