    Oh my goodness you were one of the last people to visit Lytton. In its history though, this is the 4-5th time it's burnt down. Part of their history being located in "Canada's Hot(est) Spot" is that they would rebuild stronger everytime they were destroyed. Great video !

    I've watched a lot of travel videos for years, Sailing La Vagabonde, Sailing Uma, Sailing Delos, Anthony Bourdain, Ovens Rocky Mountain Bushcraft, Eva Zu Beck, many others, a couple other BC TH-camrs....AND YOUR VIDEO KICKS ASS. Outstanding pacing. Great story. Great music. Enthusiasm, great editing. Two thumbs up. My brother and I once stuck pins in a map with our eyes closed to go wherever the pin hit for a holiday. We opened our eyes and looked. Ainsworth. Never heard of it. We drove there and found out it was a hot springs area- one hot springs had a cave in it- near Nelson that had great bars. Great holidays start out with crazy ideas. Taking the longest free ferry is right up there. Great video. Thanks for posting.

    Thanks for thinking of Lytton. Glad you stopped at Paddy Shack in Nakusp; it was a great place for a roadside burger and poutine. The Kootenay Lake ferry brings back memories of my youth, including of the Anscomb which was the main ship before it was replaced by the Osprey. Too bad you weren’t able to go up inside; the booth seats have osprey motif supports which I thought were cool. Thanks for the video!

    We were just there during the heat dome and didn’t diminish the beauty of the Kootneys! I love how your travel videos have different “goals” every time. You never take the straight path to a destination but take on a more interesting way! Like experiencing Kootneys but packaging it to heading to the longest free ferry! And getting all the insights to it including the interviews to people who actually work these things!!!! You are a great story teller! The edits and cinematography captures them all. You inspire me to travel differently with fresh set of eyes.
    Btw, the Lytton shots are heartbreaking to see after the devastation.
    P.S. and always putting a cause to your videos in a non-suffocating way!

    Well, you never fail to deliver the most heart tugging videos that mirror my personal experiences. I have appreciated your nostalgic (for me) tours of the Lower Mainland plus now your trips to Ashcroft & points north are especially evocative because we now live in the Kamloops area. We love that sweet trip across the McLure Ferry & take our company on that great country drive through Westsyde & ferry across the North Thompson & then tootle on back to Kamloops on the Hwy 1 side. Chase & Salmon Arm are also places we love to visit. A memorable childhood camping trip in the Kootenays has also been sharpened up for me! I’m deeply grateful to be included in your travels thru these videos. Good to see that your trip was earlier than the fires because we are spending most of our time smoked in now. Rather brutal!

    The longest free ferry in Manitoba is from Split Lake Community to York Landing. It's a 2 hour 1 way trip. It's also free to travel on. It travels 2 times a day, except on Tuesdays. From the northern side of Split Lake weaving around islands to the southern side. It's a 36 or 38 km round trip. Being in a small rural area, there's little o see or do. The scenery is beautiful if you can get to high enough ground to look from. As with all remote northern communities like this, the bugs are horrendously bad in the summer months.

    • @DownieLive
      @DownieLive  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Google says Split Lake is a 6.2km one-way route. Shorter than the 8km Kootenay Lake route.

    • @InsaneHunter01
      @InsaneHunter01 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DownieLive That's going in a strait line. There are many small islands and shallows in the lake that the ferry has to avoid. So the route is longer then it appears to be on google.

    I always enjoy your videos and look forward to the next one. Your “longest free ferry” looks similar to free ferries in the Outer Banks of North Carolina. The passage from Ocracoke to Hatteras is free and there are several ferries so the service is continuous. To get to Ocracoke from mainland (Swan) North Carolina you must take a three hour ferry which costs approx $10 US. All other ferry services in NC are free and it’s debatable which is the longest ( 17.95 miles in NC) but the Ocracoke to Hatteras length will give the BC ferry a run for its money. Keep up your videos that I enjoy very much. Cheers, Colin.

      British Columbia has numerous free ferries on interior lakes where the highway ends on one shore and picks up again on the opposite side, and the lake is too wide to bridge. But the Osprey crossing Kootenay Lake on Highway 3A is the world's longest free ferry and is a very special place. ⛴

    We plan our routes around the free ferries. It's our favorite thing about BC. Tiny little ferry up the road from the 1 you went to ride, over toHarrop-Proctor. Beautiful little ride on a motorbike, on the other side. Not a long route, but just gorgeous.

    BC is such a beautiful part of the world, and it's almost on your doorstep. Years ago I worked for a Canadian inbound tour operator and absolutely loved selling the Canadian Rockies and the Inside Passage. Thanks for a superb video.

    Really enjoyed the voiceover and lowered music with your cut scenes near the end. It moved me. Maybe also because I have a baby and dream of moving to the mountains. :) Well done!

    I loved this! I rode a ferry from anacortis Washington to Vancouver BC went through customs then back on the ferry to go back. It was a day trip I took with my grandparents. It was fun. Have a great week Mike!😊

    Late to the party, thus it's likely hardly anyone will ever read this comment, but I'm glad TH-cam recommended your channel to me. The Kootenay area is my favourite region in BC, and apparently I've visited often enough to have recognized highway 31A where the moose cow was having her bath at 7:04. Anyone driving 31A between Kaslo and New Denver ought to take the 10 minute side trip into Sandon, which is slowly transforming from mining ghost to museum town, and has a dozen or so former BC and Calgary Transit trolleys in, um, various states of repair. Ainsworth Hot Springs is my favourite (too bad it's a 10-12 hour drive from Calgary), and Halcyon and Nakusp are excellent resorts for a soak, too. Oh, and if you take other commenters' advice on driving 3A to Creston, keep an eye out for the Glass House, built by a funeral home operator with thousands of used-up embalming fluid bottles.

    Enjoyed this a lot. Totally agree with what you said about the journey and the process being better than the destination. And seeing you two hang out again is great. Congrats on the new baby Riley!

    I go to Nelson and Kootenay Bay about twice a year from Vancouver but prefer not in the summer. Just too hot! Love that area, one of the most beautiful spots in Canada.

    Michael: Yet another good journey. Traveling on ferries is about traveling on a ferry. The memories are priceless. I ask about travel restrictions because I would like to come to BC in the winter. Yes the winter. I don't mind visiting the land of snow and ice because I can always go back home where it is warm. Kudos.

    6:03 I swear I remember this guy or maybe someone else, giving me change while I played only 3 songs I knew on guitar at Granville station upstairs entrance
    I played Metllica Fade to Black, Knocking on Heavens Door by Clapton and Thank You by Zeppelin
    I had a blue poncho, blue backwards hat and blue jeans and was there daily for a year when Canada was 125 years old
    God Bless

    Lovely scenery from those ferries 🧡
    Such a pity about the bushfires and their damage .
    I hope the weather is settling back to a more " normal" summer for Canada

    Thanks for the recommendation. On a motorcycle trip from Ontario out and added this ferry to the route. 3A from Creston to the ferry terminal is not to be missed on a motorcycle. Sending this from mid lake ATM.

    make sure to take the road from Kaslo to New Denver too.

    That is an awesome area of Canada to travel through. I took several of the ferries in the region on my way up to Alaska about 12 years ago and was so satisfied that I took the scenic route instead of the main highways.
