The thing about german humor, mostly done by big names like Mittermeier, is that there is a difference when they play "at home" (in germany) or "out" (outside of german language speaking areas). They usually shorten and tune down their jokes. He played the same part in a german speaking area, it was much longer and "tougher" / "rougher". If you want to enjoy those fully i would suggest to watch the german version with subtitles on, it may be hard, but its much deeper.

Greece had economic problems. The country was over-indebted due to corruption and nepotism and could no longer even pay civil servants. However, since Greece is a member of the so-called "Euro-Zone", all other states (especially Germany) have repeatedly granted the Greek state a loan worth billions. That's what Michael meant by "we'll pay for you!"

Didn't we keep postponing paying the ww2 dept to greece, until we said it's too late to pay it back? they were left in ruins, struggled to rebuild and now we're heroes for giving them a fraction of what they were owed. damn we're good :D
No we didn't. Reparations to the Greek state were paid as definitely agreed upon in the the Paris Convention, which Greece signed. In addition, in the 60s Germany paid reparations to survivors of nazi terror. It is only in the recent decade that the Greek state started making more reparations demands, for transparent reasons. Germany has coherently rejected them, pointing out that originally agreed reparations have been paid several times over.

Mittereier is not THE BEST German comedian. There are so many. For example Jochen Malmsheimer, less known, but the wits he pulls off are so good you wont get it with a translation. Just watched one of his old shows the other day and I thought if I or anyone could make subs for this, and I concluded no, wouldn't work. You need to learn the language to have that laugh... 😄
To be fair, Malmsheimer is a cabaret artist not a comedian. ;-)
@@krccmsitp2884 The distinction between cabaret and comedy is is often misunderstood. Cabaret is a stage play, Scheibenwischer, Anstalt, that is cabaret. Malmsheimer is by definition a comedian. But he uses some elements of cabaret, that is true. Most comedians do that in some ways. Like Kaya Yanar with his parody pieces. Funny enough, there are TV shows that do these little skits, those are actually cabaret, not comedy. But I guess "comedy" is better for marketing reasons.

I don't like the jokes about Greece, because Greece payed everything back including a lot of interest. Germany made billions of profit on the money we lent to Greece.

@@SchinniNobody It wasn't even a good joke back then, because Germany got an insane ammount of interest from the very beginning. But even not a single Cent was giftet to Greece, in Germany most people still believe, that we Germans paid them, but in fact they paid us 3 Billion Euro, while Germany got the money for free, that we used to "help" them. It was a Win-Win-Loose-Deal, where Germany was the double winner and Greece paid for the bad decisions German Banks made - because German banks made criminal deals with Greek banks and then the German government forced Greek to overtacke these bank depths, to rescue German banks. That caused the collapse of the Greek national finances.
Where you got your informations? Germany pays millions every year to the EU to support all the southern European countries like Spain, Italy and Greece because their gross domestic product is so low that they would go bankrupt within a month. What kind of billions Germany received and where is the profit from this?
