I too was getting bent bristles with this method so I got an empty 10 litre paint tub and drilled 5 mm holes all the way around about one third down from the top about 50mm apart. Then another row about 10mm down from the first. Then I cable tied one of those exercise latex bands fairly tight to the inside. Using this brushes can be stored flat against the side with only the bristles in the water. Several brushes can be stacked between cable ties. To store even more brushes, glue a smaller paint tin to the middle of the tub and put a elastic band round the outside. Have water for the brushes and in the smaller tun have white spirit for cleanup!
i used to store me oil brushes and rollers in water all the time no probz ! The problem with white spirits is it stinks the car and unless u spin out ur brushes completely the bristles, stock and handle will be a dripping mess in no time !!!
I'm in different colour emulsion most days . I couldn't just leave em in water I have to was them out after ive finished the colour. I'm fussy I can not work with dirty tools wether there brushes . Rollers or my filling knives. Also I dont let no one use my gear as they dont look after your stuff like you do
Here in America we use 98% water based paints. I do paint with oil based paints maybe a few times a month at the most. It's easiest for me to just clean the brushes very thoroughly with mineral spirits or turp and put them up untill next time :-) best wishes from across the pond
not sure about using turps for oil brushes, I've all ways used water and a plastic bag for emully brushes, but think I will give a tin of water a try for water based brushes
Yes very inexpensive way of storing your brushes and rollers, I'm lucky really as the brush mate fluid is only £7 something I bought my brush mate box years ago when they where under £50 as for cleaning it out one a year 🙈😂 I do change the clips occasionally when they don't grip the brushes properly, I should get a small 4+ brush mate plastic box as there are only 3 gloss brushes and a gloss roller in there but then again Acy tins would be cheaper again
when you go to use your gloss rollers or brushes stored in turps how do you get rid off the excess liquid after storage. When i scrape the brush on the side of the tin i still find when i am painting and the brush is angle up all the liquid drips down the handle. tks
my Brushmate cost me £50 and i'm still using it 15 years later, the liquid is about £7 and you only need two bottles a year, only use half a bottle at the time, don't store somewhere hot and keep the lid on the trade20 tight it works out cheaper than buying white spirit, faster and cleaner. But then i use various colours and i don't do house bashing, so i can see why you do it this way most site workers do. but as you only use white a mini trade box would be ideal.
You're supposed to clean them after use spin or kick them out and put them back in the original cover they came in to hold there shape nevep soak them it ruins them
Oil & water doesn’t mix so far easier & cleaner to take an oil based roller out of water, give it s roll out on a clean surface & its ready to use - spirit or turps you risk it bleeding back through the roller 👍🏻
It's ok mate I was on about the tin you store your emulsion brushes in, I was confused as I thought you were putting them in there with out cleaning them but now I know you obviously are
Really rough mate can’t believe you store oil brushes like that and no brush mate !! Bet you use the same brush to gloss frames and skirts, I clean my brushes in white spirit before I gloss and have different brushes for frames and skirts
Effing clean them and hang them up ffs, if you can’t take 15 minutes in a day to clean your tools everyday then try mc Donald’s. SOME PAINTERS ARE UNBELIEVABLE 😂😂
ill never use oil based paints ever again. Shocking state of those brushes. Clean mine at the end of the day every day, look like new ready for the next job......
they are a pile of shite just like he said for the price ov this product and the fluid is a total rip of the lids are made lose just so the vapor runs out faster they do this just so have to buy more lucky if it last a month
You don't really use those 8,000 nap rollers for doors do you? Go buy yourself a decent 230-270mm low nap mohair dude. Clean it out with turps, soak up excess with a lint free rag, spin it out and store it in the plastic bag it came with - done.. You'll save time and money..
How is this dude sitting in a modern house? I feel like this video should be in black and white! If you don't keep your quality brushes in their sleeves and cleaned then you don't care about your brushes.
Do not clean your brushes like this guy LOL look how filthy all his brushes and handles are, I have brushes that are over three four years old that have painted dozens of houses with and the handles are still clean

not sure about using turps for oil brushes, I've all ways used water and a plastic bag for emully brushes, but think I will give a tin of water a try for water based brushes

He stores the oil based rollers in water. Stops the air getting to them. No saturation as the water just drops off the oil.
Jesus christ dude...u are one of the kind

Storing emulsion brushes in water or is that tin empty? Curious as your brushes will be dripping everywhere when you pull one out to use.
I like using synthetic sash brushes for oil based. Problem is keeping them good though.
this bloke is a legend in the painting world can I come work wit you
turps vs white spirits which is the best to use or are they for different jobs ?
I had my brushes stored like you show. but they are bent? What am I doing wrong. ?
Tahj Carter
I get that too, it helps to have the kettle full of brushes so they don't lean on one side
i usually store my brushes in different water bottle which got small diameter, help single brush or two keep straight
You're supposed to clean them after use spin or kick them out and put them back in the original cover they came in to hold there shape nevep soak them it ruins them
Try brushmate storage container it holds 20 oil brushes it's superb
I just clean all my brushes, rollers etc after each job,so they are all clean & dry all ready for the next day & looking professional ✔️
what would be the difference between storing oil based brushes in water vs turps?
Oil & water doesn’t mix so far easier & cleaner to take an oil based roller out of water, give it s roll out on a clean surface & its ready to use - spirit or turps you risk it bleeding back through the roller 👍🏻
Just noticed that comment was 2yrs ago 😁 soz
Excellent advice, thanks
Didn't realize people were still doing this so 2001
Brushmate storage container for oil brushes and a polly bag for the water base ones fuckin simple
getting the water off them rollers for glossing will take time.
Mandy Gould not at all it will just run off the brush
the best way to store brushes or rollers is in plastic.
Finally someone said it. Washed in water or turps and wrapped in glad wrap. Keeps them sharp asf. Those brushes look like mini mops
Is the emulsion brush tin have water in or are they just cleaned before you put them in?
colin ferguson
What r u talking about 🕯☕️??
It's ok mate I was on about the tin you store your emulsion brushes in, I was confused as I thought you were putting them in there with out cleaning them but now I know you obviously are
As a diyer, i store my brushes in their original packet. lol
That is what you are supposed to be doing even as a professional
i store mine the same way have done since i was shown hy my grandad as a youngster
During the war lol
Coffee jars fit 4inch sleeves in , so can store different colours,
How do you store your rollers from job to job ?
We keep oil brushes in water
What are you pouring in there???
Really rough mate can’t believe you store oil brushes like that and no brush mate !! Bet you use the same brush to gloss frames and skirts, I clean my brushes in white spirit before I gloss and have different brushes for frames and skirts

Your accent is awesome.😉
Look more like dusting brushes
ill never use oil based paints ever again. Shocking state of those brushes. Clean mine at the end of the day every day, look like new ready for the next job......
Thanks mate.
Oil based paint is the worst to use. I’m painting over paneling & it’s a long process. I appreciate the tips with the brushes.
Use a brush mate water fucks your brushes up
no paint on the bristles shit loads on the handles
brush box ,waste of money i had on e site 32 years ago i soon went back to a paint can ps the box fluid also smells vile .
You ent a brummie...Leicester?
Why not buy a gelpot from Johnstones?
That was a five minute wonder
Candle man, do you have a trade union behind you my friend?
👍
If you're a professional decorator like myself, you will use a brushmate 20
they are a pile of shite just like he said for the price ov this product and the fluid is a total rip of the lids are made lose just so the vapor runs out faster they do this just so have to buy more lucky if it last a month
Yes it's him again mate your brushes should be stored in a bin

Overalls from Screwfix £19.99 bargain 1 pound petrol, also I splashed out on a new hair cut £6.50 +50p fuel 💰💰🕯☕️🙄
Get a wash Walli
On price work you would probably make £100 a week how slow you are

Do not clean your brushes like this guy LOL look how filthy all his brushes and handles are, I have brushes that are over three four years old that have painted dozens of houses with and the handles are still clean
I've had oil brushes kept in water for 10 years works for me each to their own
Back to the stone age 🤣🤣. Looks so unprofessional. Buy a Brushmate box. Great storage for brush.
not sure about using turps for oil brushes, I've all ways used water and a plastic bag for emully brushes, but think I will give a tin of water a try for water based brushes
