I am definitely one to admit when I'm wrong, and in my comment on one of your previous videos, I was wrong. I recoiled when you said you moved from a paid off home to a camper. However, I agree that Florida is a hellscape of economics right now. We are even considering purchasing an RV right now, spending 3 years paying off our debt, another year saving, then purchasing a home, paying off the RV, and putting that on the home as well. We rent right now, and while an RV is indeed a depreciating asset, any asset while paying off debt is better than renting, which has no ROI. I also homeschooled my youngest son and he is already taking computer science courses at a CC at 17 years old, with a rule of no student debt and 50% of his paychecks must go into an interest bearing account or Roth IRA. This country is an economic mess, and we are all going to have to tighten our belts. Kudos to you for not listening to people like me in the beginning. Keep on going! I'm an MBA and researcher, and you are teaching me to let go of garbage beliefs. I'll keep following and watching....

It is very nice to hear someone openly change their opinion. That takes guts and should be a model for everyone. Whether viewers think things are good or bad it never hurts to tighten our belts. For example, just because I can afford it does not mean I should buy it. There is a ton of waste regardless so my
Goal is to buy what I need and will actually use.

We bought a homestead in Tennessee in 2015. Then a second homestead. Sold our big suburban home. Now we own two other homes besides our homesteads. Ones in the city we rent it out. And we live on a country home on a couple acres. We are selling it all and buying in Florida. We are older it’s were we want to be. Our youngest daughter just became a doctor and she’s working in a hospital in Florida. So we will live hopefully close to her. Within a hour or two. We had so many tornadoes in Tennessee last year that we still have damage at all of our properties. We had tornadoes after tornadoes. It’s was scary ! No warning ⛔️. Also our insurance company was threatening to cancel on us after 40 years with them. And we had not had a claim in 15 years. Our insurance went up a lot , I have never seen insurance go up this much in my 42 years of owning property. But it’s because the disasters will keep coming. It’s not just Florida experiencing these issues it’s Tennessee too. So we plan to buy a homestead again, Florida has lots of options. Beautiful places on 5/7/10 acres with pools and nice homes. An low taxes. For us now it’s about where do we want to be. And Florida has been a second home for us for many years. I have even live full time in Florida. The problem with all the natural disasters is the Sun. It’s exposing daily causing the magnetosphere to change so that birds and animals don’t know there way around. And it’s effecting humans too. True crime is also exploding. With each X flare we get more earthquakes more volcanoes going off. And our planet Is being shook up. It will get worse. Plus you can’t invite thousands an thousand’s of illegal immigrants into a country and expect it’s going to be ok. The US economy will crash. CBDC’s are coming. And I would be very careful which crypto you invest in. Because bitcoin will crash , it’s too heavily invested in USDT. You can not run from what is coming or hide out in the caves or mountains as the king James tells us . We need to get in a place and make sure we are self sufficient. Can grow food have some live stock , solar and ways to live without power and hunker down. In the movie “ leave the world behind” those are astroids hitting at the end. It’s not an attack.the movie was a for shadow of what’s coming caused by solar explosions. The second sun has made it close enough. The scientists said in 1980 it’s 50 years out no worries. Well now it’s time. Don’t worry just prepare.

I was really having a hard time thinking through a job offer that would pay me more but take away time from my family. With 4 kiddos under the age of 16 it was so tempting but I also do not want to miss anything with them. The money was so tempting but it is a real blessing to have the option to be with them and cut back on everything we can. Thank you for reminding me what is important. This video was a god moment for me. ❤

This sounds like a great move for your family my parents raised myself & 4 brothers in a caravan & we traveled all over Australia 🇦🇺. We didn’t have any money but boy we have some wonderful memories, meeting new friends, having fun experiences. We were considered poor but we didn’t feel poor it’s a wonderful life not being tired down to normal everyday life.

Admiring you and your family from Australia 🇦🇺 I know you get a lot of judgement from others my opinion is that you are creating amazing memories for your kids and teaching them amazing life lessons it is not all about possessions. We have been raised to believe we should all work a 9-5 and "own" a home but our best years of living are working and spending very little time with our children. If people opened up their eyes they would realise you are living the dream! Positive and love to you guys! 💖

Congratulations on selling your house. I know that's a load of stress and worry off your shoulders !
Where do you budget in personal products ? Like shampoo. Soap. Tooth paste. Feminine products . medications Detergent. Razors. And cleaning products ? Is it in within your grocery budget ? And where do you shop for them ?
Also internet for schooling and cell phones ? Where in the budget would you put these expenses ? Happy Holidays :)

We bought a brand new triple wide in 1998. Yes it depreciates but…. De were paying 650 a month for a nice sized home. We had maintenance over the years. It it is now paid off and we had enough monthly left over in our budgets to invest. We are now retired while many of our friends are still paying a mortgage. So while Dave Ramsey says MH aren’t a good investment it was for us

"We're not doing this because we're lazy and don't want to work." Haha. It's really none of anyone's business why you do things. It's your life and you've set things up to live that life the way you want to. That's the whole point of being frugal, thrifty, energetic do-it-yourselfers! All of these things you're doing are setting you up to be able to make choices for the rest of your life and that includes when and IF you want to work. And your kids get the benefit of both parents being around as they grow up. You're enjoying everyday. That's pretty wonderful in this kooky world we're all living in.

Yes, homeownership is costly in Florida. Factoring in slightly lower property taxes than we had in NY and no state income tax, the higher cost of insurance washes that difference away. Car insurance 250.00 a month and house with flood is 2,000.00 yearly. But having mortgage makes this feasible. Plus we are retired with a 21 yr. old who suffers from anxiety and depression. Yes, food is high but we get creative. Also, limited subscriptions. As of now, we shall be debt free next year. Vehicle will be pd. off and too a small loan. No getting in debt for a camper, SUV, jet ski, or golf cart. And Katie, we bought your budget book to start in 2024. Oh, one gift with a price limit for each of for Christmas. No buy now, pay later!

I use to do that, now I wish I had not. You have to ask yourself if you want a particular item more than that beach living. Maybe it will sink in soon? Beautiful baby.

Yes I strongly encourage you to get life insurance on your husband. My husband passed away October of 2023 at the age of 67 from brain cancer. We did not have a large life insurance policy but it's enough to at least cushion me with part-time work until I reach an age or I won't be penalized so much to collect his Social Security. I think your RV will have a good resale value versus what you paid for it that's for sure. Great job as always Katie.
I meant to say I think it's great that you are teaching your girl's financial responsibility at a young age by having them pay for their own cell phones Etc, also I was wondering if you have an email address that you are okay sharing? Cute cat!! We live off-grid - as in we have dirt, vegetation and air on our land, that's it - and at altitude (8600 ft) and if we could live on $40 of propane a month, I'd be ecstatic! Nice that you have reasonable weather and live at sea level (better woodstove performance). You are saving alot of money there.
I would strongly recommend starting an animal healthcare savings fund. All the cats we have & (have had) routinely need dental cleanings & extractions and that cost ranges from $600-800 depending on the region, vet prices and extent of procedure..
Animal healthcare is just one of those expenses that is non-negotiable and you want to have what you need on hand if your animals need help. 😻

You have such good and logical insight to finances. I learn something new in most every one of you videos. My husband is close to retirement and I was thinking along the lines of downsizing and selling our family home and paying cash for a townhouse or condo but after your saying you regretted paying cash for your Florida home which locked up a lot money I am now thinking maybe staying in our home for longer since our mtg. interest rate is only 4%, playing it by ear and then not dumping all that equity into a future home.
Also, with regards to the :depreciation" of your camper, it can be compared to someone paying rent which is also a depreciation. Housing costs vary but the money stills gets paid out.

Congratulations on closing on the sale of your house and lowering your expenses!!! That looks like a very nice budget planner. I use a spiral notebook. I page per month. I draw columns down each page for utilities, groceries, car, pet, insurance, & other. When I spend money I write it down & put it in the proper column. I really look at it and it "talks" to me. I summarize it weekly. It's very similar to what you're doing. I paid less than $2 for the 70 page (140 pages if you count both sides of the page). I save some pages for end of the years summarizing, planning for the next year, and special notes. I started this spiral notebook in 2019 so this is the 4th year I've used it. I can get one more year out of it.

    🎉🎉🎉
Y’all are on the right track of living in a camper!
Our taxes just went up again! Plus we have to pay $600 a year for the public school in taxes , or whatever it is called! I could use that $600 for my homeschool!
We have decided to buy a shed and make it into a home for our daughter, who graduated this year, she’s working, and she deserves a place of her own. I’d like to get a shed for me, the husband , and my youngest too. Then rent out the cabin as an AirB&B.
I’m so happy for y’all living like you do!
Paying taxes is not fun! We never get a deduction in taxes, Minnesota just raises taxes!
    Stay wild and free!

I really like to down size ,sale our home and get a tiny house .but hubby not on board so wait and see.
We do grow our own food ,can a lot , raise our meats .
    And buy cheap food wise.
Trusting God ,and trying to be wise in living .
Keep up your good work. But watch you money with banks doing what there doing .have cash on hand always .

How are you closing out the year? Do you have any goals for 2024?

Do you have a steady income? An amount that you know that will be coming in each week/month? Both my hub and I are self-employed and not sure what will be coming in and when. We have no debt but pay rent and have utilities. We have at least 1 year of expenses saved but other than that no investments. My hub is turned 66 and I’m 59 with no kids. I could never go back to a 9-5 and don’t buy into the whole rat wheel way of living. However we have a monthly expenses of 3500.00 just to live (due to rent and utilities). Going in to “retirement” age we want more freedom and to spend less. Yet haven’t figured out how to earn more or have less of a cost of living. Man…LIFE is certainly a challenge! We’re you and your husband always on the same page with living in a camper?? I could do it in a heart beat but my husband is so much on board. Thanks for posting your videos…certainly food for thought!❤

Not sure if law has changed but if you don't reinvest in another piece of property in 2 years with your capital gains on home you have to pay a tax on that. I know you paid cash for house I am only talking about above original price. Might want to check into that to be sure.

I don’t know when this came into being, nor do I know if it’s permanent… however, a single can sell a home (if it’s primary residence and a few rules) and up to $250k is tax free. It’s $500k for couples.

Do you have any suggestions for people on a low income who are NOT debt free? I would like to become debt free but I don't make enough to pay enough extra on the debts to make a dent. I am a single mom and feel like I am drowning... I make 25K a year and am
    $28 k in debt.

You are so inspirational to me. My boyfriend and I have 5 kids, a big house and have to work like crazy. We dream of selling it all and moving to an off grid cabin and raising sled dogs. We live in Alaska. It’s so nice to see someone else not conforming to the mold.

People who think money solves everything are really sad people. Things are not what matters in life. It’s the times you spend with your family and friends. You can never get back time. Things only clutter up and take up space and will be useless when you’re gone

I don’t understand how your kids can be on Medicaid. It doesn’t seem like your low income. To be on Medicaid you can’t have any assets or money or anything. Most families that is on Medicaid is also on welfare. Unless a parent died or is in prison. Just wondering!

Medicaid eligibility is mostly based on income, not assets. My 2 older teens have a different bio-father who is completely MIA (no child support or custody). In general, there are less restrictions on Medicaid than other social programs.
