      My main level is 2000 square feet.. it took about 15 runs to map. I have mostly hardwood floor, and tile. I was purposely using my dyson animal 2 before I ran this to see how much dust/dirt it would collect and I couldn’t believe how my shark iq still collected. I paid 350 for it and my only wish was that I bought a 2nd one for my basement or upstairs.
      FYI it says to run it in daylight or have all the lights on.. I did both, also my dogs hate it so that is really the only challenge I felt I have had.

      @@0814947 my biggest issue with it is that it doesn't directly go where I tell it to. It's as if the room function doesn't work most of the time.
      It never goes STRAIGHT to the rooms I tell it to clean. It's driving me nuts. Like the kitchen is to the left of it. Instead of going left, it goes towards the right half of the house. It makes no sense. And it goes beyond the room boundaries and ends up cleaning other rooms.

      If you do, here are a few tips for the best results. Since the robot uses a camera to navigate, turning on the lights during the mapping phase helps a lot.
      Also, if you have a large house, turn on echo mode (low vacuum suction) during the mapping phase. The batteries will last a long longer, so mapping will take fewer runs. My house was mapped on the first run, on normal mode.

    I bought this a while ago and no regrets. I had no issues with mapping at all. In fact, I decided to toss the map and start over to include my bedroom. I don't have it clean my entire house, just the common are like kitchen, dining room, hallway, leading to our bedroom. What I like too is that it doesn't get stuck anywhere. We a have a little pug and he sheds like crazy. The robot has no issues cleaning the hair and sand no problem with our laminate flooring. Sorry his didn't work out you, but it was worth every penny for me.

      So if you tell it to clean one room only, does it go DIRECTLY there? And only stay there, then go back home?
      Mine is driving me nuts. I'll tell it to go kitchen (left room from base), and it starts to clean to the right half of the house, instead of the kitchen which is the room DIRECTLY to the left.
      Sometimes it stays within the boundaries of the selected room, other times it keeps cleaning the rest of the house randomly even though we told it to only clean one room.
      I wish it would just go on a straight line to the selected room instead of wandering and cleaning other areas.

The second gen Shark IQ has a floor tracker, which isn’t present on the model Adam has in the video (He retested a Shark IQ which had a floor tracker). We have a 110lb long hair Great Pyrenees indoor dog. If I don't upright vacuum every day then I get those puffy white clouds everywhere. A "normal" upright vac will end up with a horribly wrapped roller. That is how bad the hair can get.
    My Shark IQ has almost freed me from the task. Now I upright vacuum the stairs and crevices only once a month. The Shark has very much improved my quality of life. I still get an occasional small hair wrap in the middle of the roller from time to time but its nothing compared to the hassle it all was. I can delete the map in the app and it begins to rebuild itself after the first cleaning. The map completes after about 15 runs and I can zone the rooms.
    My house is about 1,700 sqft and I set it to empty more often and never had a problem. I keep the suction on high and it runs for about an hour and ten minutes before returning to base for about two hours and finish the edging. It has never not found its base.
    I think it's too bad this author chooses to utterly trash such a great product.

    Yes, the mapping is terrible. Mine mapped my smallish 1st floor after about 30 runs, but there is a strange extra area showing on the map that doesn't exist. That said, I have 3 dogs and the both the Neato and Roborock often get bins overfull before they finish cleaning, so the self emptying bin is nice. It doesn't seem to fill very fast, so I'm wondering if it's cleaning as well as the other two that get bins jammed full of debris. I have not done any objective testing, but of the 3, Neato seems to pick up the most dirt and Roborock is by far the best at navigation. And the Shark is just plain dumb, but gets the job done but it never has an over-full bin.

    TLDR, not as good overall as competitors that cost 2-3x more, but software updates have come and are coming to improve it. Still a solid robot vacuum for the less affluent.
    Yes, the Shark has deficiencies when you compare to a vacuum that costs 2-3x more. But, in my opinion, those deficiencies can be addressed via software tweaks and updates. I believe they are relatively new to the robot vacuum market and have been pretty good at updating it so far. I've owned mine for about a month and it did take about 15 or so runs to learn my maze-like 1800 sqft home, but it did generate a map and now it works great. I'd be hesitant spending $500+ on ANY vacuum, but sales happen all the time. I picked mine up from Kohls for just over $300, and I have no regrets. The app was very crash prone the first couple of weeks, but a big update came out and I don't have that problem anymore. I hear they are also planning to add new features such as no-go zones in the near future.

    I bought this exact Shark robot self emptying cleaner because our dog sheds like crazy, and it works great. Mapped my house the very first time, cleaned every inch of my floors in a pattern and has some of the best suction of any robot available today. There are options on the app that will send the robot back to the base for self emptying and recharging if needed. My sister has the Irobot 9, and she is upset at how well my Shark performs. For the money, the Shark is hands down the best option on the market. My guess is the poster didn't update the app...

    Just bought one on black friday. It works great. The robot emptied itself 3 times on first use. I see the map and it says it might take a few times to finish the map. Sounds like this reviewer ran his through what he called stress test until he broke it.
    As for better robots. There might be but I got mine for 339 and the other self emptying bots cost at least twice that. And for me I wouldn't have one if I had to manually empty it. Have you seen how small the bins are? You'd have to empty the thing at least every 30 minutes.
    I like my shark iq and if they still had the black friday price on amazon I'd buy my entire family one and a second for myself.

At about 6:43, you started your sign-off ("OK, well that's about it for this guy..."), but then you continued on for about two and a half minutes. You really "stretched out that closing". Then we chose different areas of the map and labeled them. Told alexa to clean that specific room (area) and it did! I just got it and tried to start mapping but after 10 minutes it kept getting clogged with hair (2 cats) probably because we did not pre-vacuum the house. So I decided to map the house without vacuuming by removing the rotator brush. It does not detect it missing and runs normally, I keep the setting on ECO and let it go map the house it came back on its own to empty out and it made it back to the base (which is in another room) without hitting anything and docked, then returned back to where it left off. Boy! was that impressive.and at the hour it returned to charge flawlessly. but did not finish a map even mapping rooms multiple times Still impressive for the first time. I'll let you know when it does so I can start vacuuming!

    I think you should check your fax, bought the shark self emptying system for my elderly grandmother who can’t vacuum herself and she loves it. She tells me every day on how successful Charlie is as far as the app we both love the app. The app makes perfect sense to me, my grandmother is 66 years old and she to understand the app as far as the mapping goes, ours mapped the entire basement on like the second or third run and it’s incredibly accurate again. I think you should check your fax take care

    With that said, mine lasted 6 days and it had a drive wheel error. I called support and they had me check for debris stuck in it and there was nothing. The vacuum still looked brand new. They said to take it back to Best Buy and exchange it. When it cleaned it seemed to clean good, but it always seemed like it wasted too much time figuring out where it was. Plus mine would go in the kitchen which is vinyl flooring, but it could never transition back to the carpet and would get stuck in the kitchen area. If they updated the programming so the vacuum would map more than 80% of my apartment and made it able to transition better between carpet and hard floors it would be a lot better robot. Robo master isn't giving up on the shark but it cost so low why not hang on. It all depends on updates and this does need very little improvements but again if this does anything start a price war. It will be in courts for years until irobot will settle with shark. Irobot never stopped the others not going to stop this, self emptying bin isn't like dual brushes which they own. That part is preformed differently on both just because you came up with the idea first doesn't mean it can't be copied, (we never see that) like everything else, cars, planes, trains ect.

    • @hadrast

      Irobot owns patent for dual brushes why no other ROBOT VACUMM has them, they do not own concept for ROBOT VACUMMS. Self empty bin is a idea not patentable, sharks bin preforms differently and only thing have in common is vacumm used to vacumm out another vacumm. I have done that and so has others. I would say S9 shape is a copy of Neato so much for irobot crying

    • @hadrast
      @hadrast 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kinglord5429 Again, not true; iRobot DOES hold a patent on the self-emptying bin, and it's written quite broadly. See this article for 3 of the 6 patents involved in the case: therobotreport.com/irobot-sues-sharkninja-patent-infringement/ Keep in mind that patents are only put into effect when ① Another company or entity tries to use the contents of a patent for commercial purposes, and ② The holders of the patent sue the infringing company or entity. If one of those two things does not happen, then the patent doesn't do anything. You personally vacuuming out your own vacuum has nothing to do with either of those points.

      What will be the difference this time, shark struck first in court. Irobot has had a monopoly, not good thing anymore. Shark may have to fork over some money but i see them staying just for competition. Everyone copies everyone, how the game is played. Irobot would be smart and settle, let shark handle low end market just grabing piece of their pie and they stay high end instead if over pricing themselves out altogether. Like VCR market, Panasonic mother company made them for everyone esle mostly. Computer market, everyone mades them just paid Microsoft for os rights and even that ended

    • @hadrast
      @hadrast 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kinglord5429 First, it doesn't matter who sues who first in patent cases, since the language of the patent is what determines who wins. Second, it was iRobot that sued Shark first. Third, "everyone copies everyone" is exactly what patents prevent, by protecting investments companies make in R&D. This is completely different from a monopoly, because patents expire by design. It is not fair to iRobot if someone just starts copying their patented content, because they spent lots of time and money developing the technology. If Shark wants to use technology covered by iRobot's patents legally, then they must either come to an agreement with iRobot, or wait until the patent expires first. We do not yet know how the current case will turn out, but given that iRobot has banned other companies from the US for patent infringement in the past, it does not look promising for Shark. If Shark wanted to grab a piece of the pie at the low end of the market, they could have simply designed their robot without a self-emptying bin (and the other features covered by patents) just like other companies such as Roborock, and avoided patent problems entirely. Ironically, I think the Shark would've been better received that way anyways, since it's having so many problems with its mapping and self-emptying as is.

      So far it's doing great, no issues like above, except a little slow mapping,

    Which non-roomba vacuum do you recommend for a house which is 90% carpeted?

      Don't waist money on iRobot i7 or s9 unless self emptying is important for you. I used to own i7 and s9 and overpriced for nothing.
      Ecovacs deebot ozmo 920 & 950 are the best robot vacuum on the market. Better navigation and better cleaning from my opinion. The direct suction is a plus as it’s very rare that robot have that. I exclusive use the direct suction.
      Don’t expect wonders with the moping.
